valentine was too committed to the bit of making clary and jace think they were siblings. especially considering the fact that it helps him and his war on the clave and the downworlders in no way whatsoever, he's just doing it for the love of the game (also known as child abuse). him on the boat talking about how it was his and jocelyn's fault for not raising clary and jace together so they'd view each other as siblings and that jace's biggest fear was his love for his 'sister' while knowing damn well they're not related and that he has a second jonathan who is actually related to clary just hidden away somewhere is so crazy to reread.

and then in the tv show isabelle tells maia "i guess when times get tough, some people need to be alone and others need to be around other people. i'm more like that."

they're nowhere close to being the same character. i do not understand how you can adapt a character and then have them be the polar opposite of what they originally were.

Another problem with the show is that it does everything it can to strip the characters of anything that could be considered, in a million quotation marks, “problematic,” making them all more sanitized and, above all, politically correct. I don’t even know how to explain it.

Like in this case, they apparently think it’s better to portray someone who, when they’re going through a hard time, is open with others and has the emotional strength to ask for help and be around people, rather than someone who tends to withdraw into themselves in other words, a character with a more negative personality trait. And it’s like this throughout the entire show: they keep removing the very things that make the characters imperfect, as if they don’t want to portray people with flaws or problematic traits, when in reality people are complex and flawed. That’s why the way they characterized them really bothers me.

exactly!! and because they don't want to show a "negative" personality trait (which really isn't that negative), they remove the growth that izzy has of learning to let simon in and trust him romantically that makes their relationship so sweet and important for both of them.

another thing i wish we saw more in tlh was the praetor and the london institute. sebastian literally kills the entire praetor there for protecting the london institute and it's been over a century since tid. we had such a perfect opportunity too with matthew and kellington and the tlh gang hanging around more downworlders in general. i'm sure cassie just forgot but like it would've been so interesting to see that bond strengthen enough to last over a century
