snoozes on him

THEY WERE SITTING ON THE COUCH IN THE SAFE HOUSE, the television was blaring the news. the aftermath of their latest heist was all the rage on the local media. they loved to witness the aftermath of it, though HOUSTON wasn't comforted by the amount of footage that they had of them. watching with interest, he sees some familiar masks on the screen as his eyes are glued to the screen. next to him, he feels a familiar sense of warmth pressed up against him. with no masks on, he can see the other's full expression. his eyes are shut tightly, his mouth in a thin line. he has frown lines, likely from years of never moving his facial features. JACKET is a curious man to witness. the only thing that draws him from the TELEVISION SET is a chance to witness him further without being noticed. he's fast asleep at the moment, his chest rising & falling in rhythm. he didn't expect for the other to fall asleep so comfortably next to him; but he supposes that not everyone takes much interest to the news, not as much as he does.

taking the opportunity to inspect him further. there is a faint smell of cigarette smoke on his jacket. it's nothing too overpowering. he can't prod too much, lest he wakes him up. all he can do is look at him, taking in minor details. the wrinkles of his face, frown lines, creases in his eyelids. all things that he wouldn't usually get to notice. JACKET is his to admire right now. he's a fair - looking man, easy on the eyes. HOUSTON has shared many intimate moments with the man, but never had the chance to truly get a look at him. most times, he's shielded in mystery. with the tape recorder that he used so often, he's never gotten to hear his real voice. there was something about him that seemed almost in - human. his bloodlust was far greater than the others, and he lacked remorse in every way. he was truly an enigma to someone as emotional as HOUSTON.

leaning in a little, the couch shifts under his weight; bringing JACKET closer. bringing his hand up to touch the man's hair, he pushes his short bangs out to the side. it feels so wrong to be able to touch him without him realizing it; but he doubted that he would mind the intrusion. someone so ready for combat, he might have just woken him.

SHE IS RADIANT IN THE LIGHT OF THE HOTEL ROOM, but he doesn't have the guts to tell her that. he can only think it. telling her would be too forward. because once again, they are on the thin line of being coworkers - but not friends, yet being friendly all the same. it's a tough balance. HOUSTON had never let a woman distract him from his work before. though, he's certainly let women distract him before. it's not to say that he is immune, he simply allows himself to be engulfed by the task at hand when he must. though, right now there is no task to diverge him from the fact that she is painstakingly beautiful. the wine isn't helping his case. the small talk, it's not helping either.

she's trying to open up to him about something, but it bounces off his brain - too different to understand it to a degree, or perhaps - too similar. he's spent much of his life lying about his persona to everyone that he meets. it's hard to tell who knows the real FRANKLIN STEELE & who knows HOUSTON - who knows AUSTIN, who knows JAMES. it's a mess that he had gotten himself knee deep into.

there is sincerity in her expression, something that scares him to death. he's not sure what to take from it. a dangerous woman, opening up to him about her heart. when they both know that they are supposed to remain anonymous for their own safety. though, when committing crimes as a duo, is there any harm in knowing your partner? he surely knows the members of his own gang. but he never considered knowing someone who was on the outside; someone who helped out only occasionally.

❝ is there anyone that you would give the time? like . . . - you want someone to know you, but - you're just not opening up to them because you're scared they will see the real you? ❞ his statement comes out without much thought to it, he's beyond a filter now. she had opened him up in a second with a few glasses of wine & some sincere looks. he supposes that he understands the predicament that she is in. but maybe, she isn't like him. he might have been projecting his own fears onto her. ❝ or is it somethin' else. i'm not really sure what you mean, miss. ❞ / @muutos

okay he may have searched youtube for this. caspian blinked. he typed in the photo in his phone and he showed it to the other. the werewolf felt a strong sense of confidence! he never baked things before, but he was willing to give it a try. he crossed his fingers.

“ here! i seen them on this website called pinterest and youtube.” he mumbled. caspian wondered if they had some for sale in the local bakery. caspian was very curious about this. he wanted to eat it too. the king was very interested in this. dark eyes seem to wander about. “ what do you think? you wanna do this with me?”

HE TAKES A LOOK AT THE PHOTO ON THE PHONE, and it was a real thing. he thought of gingerbread as more of a christmas thing - not anticipating it for a halloween tradition. though, CASPIAN has proved him wrong through a basic google search. it seemed as if the other had done extensive research on the topic; judging from the way that he was talking about it. there was no need to put a damper on his excitement for the idea, even if HOUSTON didn't pride himself on his baking ability. he was known for being able to burn anything that his hands touched. hopefully, the other had a better run with baking than he did.

❝ we could give it a shot. i don't see why not. seems a little . . . . complicated. ❞ it's meant to be a warning of sorts. if CASPIAN had expectations for their's to turn out as good as the ones that he saw on pinterest; then he had another thing coming. their own would likely turn out subpar & a little sad. but HOUSTON was willing to put in the effort just to have the experience.

This looked very much like earth. Her suspicion turned even more credible when the man removed his mask and what looked like a human face gazed back at her. Her dark eyes had looked at his weapon varily, but he placed it down, facing it away from her. Of course he could easily grab it if he wished, but T'Pring prided herself in her Vulcan reflexes, which should be superior to his. She hoped there would be no reason for her to compete with him for it though.

"I physically do not belong here. This is neither the correct planet, nor the correct time." Clearly this was earth - but pre-warp. His gun was primitive, still working with bullets. Usually the protocol was to stay away from engaging with pre-warp civilizations, as it could lead to cultural contamination. However, in this case, T'Pring had been brought here - possibly beamed - against her will and her options to avoid contact were limited. "Am I correct in my assumption that this is earth?"

HIS ASSUMPTIONS WERE FAR FROM THE TRUTH, thinking that she was just some confused girl. the more that she spoke, the worse that he thought it was. listening to her ramble about not physically belonging there, about how it was EARTH. his eyebrows knit in confusion. there was no need for violence against someone like this. his gun could sit comfortably in a non - threatening position. he wasn't her enemy, just the man who had found her in an extremely vulnerable position. HOUSTON was a bad guy, but he wasn't a bad guy - not to the innocent, and not to those who were simply bystanders of his work. he had no reasons to be aggressive towards her. though, he wasn't quite sure how to take her words. the more that she spoke, the more confused that he got about her predicament.

❝ yeah . . . this is earth? ❞ he states slowly, wondering if he's dealing with the severely confused at the moment. he reaches out to touch her forehead ever - so - gently. ❝ you didn't hit your head when you passed out, did you? ❞ his tone comes out caring, as caring as he possibly could be at the moment. worried that she might have jarred something in the fall. that, or she was severely confused about it from the start. she didn't look much different than a regular human, save for some unique clothing. he couldn't place her predicament so readily. perhaps, she was speaking the truth. but there was a part of him that was worried she was still upset from the fact that she had been unconscious only seconds before.

Sass picks up the map almost delicately in their hands. They look it over, sharp blue eyes scanning it, taking it in, committing it to memory.

"we-elll..." They say, because they can promise to be the best, they know they're the best. But following orders isn't their style, usually. They did their own thing. But this was at least way more interesting than the typical hacks they got up to.

Finally, they look up at him with a wide, jackal grin.

"yeah, okay. sure, i'm in. understood, mr. boss man. no getting caught. prommy."

HE AWAITS THEIR RESPONSE, watching as they gaze over his careful planning compiled on a single sheet of paper. it might not have looked like much, but it took weeks of scouting to understand the hidden bounds of the warehouse that they would be hitting up that night. this was no child's game, it was the real deal. they would have to be their best, better than their best.

❝ let's suit up then. wastin' moonlight, or somethin' somethin'. ❞ taking the paper from the table, he folds it into a neat square & tucks it into the pocket of his jacket. never knew when they would have to refer back to the map on a dime. he couldn't risk running around blind, not in such a heavily guarded area.

grabbing his dufflebag off the floor, he already comes prepared. these jobs came quick, knowing that he had mere hours to take care of them. getting a hacker on a whim was the hard part, that's where they came in handy. someone looking to make a quick buck, who didn't care if they got in trouble with the law. ❝ van is out back, don't get cold feet. ❞

THE SKY THAT @thistlewoods LOOKS UP TO IS CRISP & CLEAR. on the cusp of a sunset, a beautiful orange - hue. though, HOUSTON keeps his eyes awkwardly fixated on her face as he speaks. searching for something in her expression. he has never been remarkable at reading people, nor would he say that he takes pride in his ability to. but, he puts in the effort on account of the sensitivity of the topic at hand. thinking that if they didn't want to be speaking on it, their expression would give way to some discomfort. ❝ that's an awful vague statement. ❞ giving him no leeway to understand the things that she had been through.

perhaps, she doesn't want to go into detail. the thought isn't something that hadn't crossed his mind, of course he has the decency to think when someone is being purposefully vague. the silence hangs thick in the air after her statement; only to be cut swiftly by his response. his tone isn't anywhere near as caring, or soft as he wished it could be. he'd seen a lot of awful things in his life. getting himself to speak empathetically about the most gruesome of topic was something to be worked on. ❝ what did happen to you back then . . . ? ❞ it comes out with more grace, more hesitance. the lingering doubt that he shouldn't have asked the question, but he so deeply wants to listen to her worries. he asked her to speak as if no one was there. & yet, here he was: the ready listener.

❝ THIS IS PRETTY FANCY. ❞ he comments to the striking woman beside him; still taking in the elaborate decorations of the party. he's rarely invited to high class events such as this, but the host was a good friend of their gang. needless to say, they owed him somewhat of a favor. which meant, his armed security was going undercover for the night. spending his time amongst the party - goers. on stand - by incase something went off. he would take this as an opportunity to indulge himself in the beauty of the opportunity. while, a part of him was still on high ALERT. he could never fully relax while on the job.

that meant, no indulging in alcoholic drinks; or anything else that may dull the senses. truth be told, HOUSTON wasn't tempted at the thought of it. he much preferred to spend his time in the moment. ❝ i always thought this place would make a killer party location. never thought that they would invite people here. the decorations, they just seem too . . . fragile. ❞ he's referring to all of the colored glass on the tables. lit up with accented lights, giving them a crystalline pink hue. he doesn't know what the occasion truly is, just that he was there to make sure no one started a scuffle. it was easy work, compared to what he was normally up to.

❝ WHOSE BLOOD IS THAT? ❞ he's not panic - stricken at her appearance, calm at the very best. though, her appearance might have been shocking to anyone else who stumbled upon the scene. he was accustomed to the sight of violence, he often partook in it himself. she could consider herself lucky that someone like him at come across the scene. he was quick to clean up, quick to hide the evidence. but would he do it for her? they were not tied together by any sort of strong bond. nor, was there a contract keeping them together.

it would have been something done out of the goodness of his heart; which didn't come out very often. he didn't like to do favors for people. debts were something that he didn't deal in. you couldn't rely on someone to pay you back.

you give and give. you are a gentle heart, broken but still standing... always lending a hand for those who need it, expecting nothing in return. you deserve someone taking your hand and kissing your open palm, the hands which have selflessly helped so many others.

❝ FUCK, ❞ gripping his side where the blood was flowing from. HOUSTON knows that he is caught between a rock & a hard place. his escape isn't going as smoothly as he wished for. taking a bullet doesn't make for a good time. it slows him down, makes him a weak target. the get away van is late to the show & he has no way of getting off the scene. ducking himself into an alley way, he think that it will save him from the prying eyes of the law. the last thing that he needs is to be circled by a handful of cops; knowing that he's done wrong. on his back is a dufflebag full of cash. his payout for a job that had gone haywire from the start. usually, he prides himself on clean work. not today.

he hadn't noticed the metal detector before he had walked through it, setting off alarm bells through the whole store. the cops were on the scene before he could reach the safe in the backroom. he didn't believe in quitting, not when he was already on the job. where there was money to be had, he was on the scene. the last thing that would make him turn tail & run was a few cops showing up to check out the premises. standing in the alley way, a door opens next to him. gun on the ready, he points it at the figure who comes out of the door - prepared for it to be a cop, waiting to detain him.

❝ YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW GOOD IT FEELS TO HAVE SOME REAL FOOD AGAIN. ❞ seated across from BODHI, he has a plate in front of him. piled high with a burger & some fries. a root beer right next to it, freshly opened, bubbles still coming from the top. he'd missed this in his time in prison. the food there was horrendous. he couldn't begin to talk about how badly he was treated in there. they didn't take kindly to having one of the members of the PAYDAY gang in their hands. he was denied his rights on more than one occasion. turns out, violence against cops doesn't earn you any remorse from them. kicking his feet some under the table, he's happier to be in the safe house again than he can put into words.

stuffing his face with a mouthful of burger, he doesn't have table manners to spare. BODHI isn't someone that he cares to impress with dainty bites; he can eat like a starved dog if he wants to. that's what he felt like at the moment. from the second they brought him home from the courthouse: a wild animal. finally free from his shackles. freedom felt better than he could put into words. & he was ready to jump right back into it. they couldn't turn him into a model citizen. he was rotten to the core, unable to be turned into a functional member of society.
