So, uh...I never posted @sweeet-coralin ‘s birthday present because I’m a scatterbrained mESS. (I even got it to her a day late this year because I was so determined to not accidentally leave it that I carried it around all morning... only to leave it on the table after I had breakfast. )

It’s inspired by something she created that I did a take on before for a previous gift, but I didn’t think the old version did it enough justice.

Also, I couldn’t be quite as relentless with my teasing this year, but I most definitely still pestered her with her inability to peek. That will never not be fun! ^-^

There was an experiment a professor did. I think it was pottery students. He did an experiment of “quality” vs “quantity”. One half of the class he told; you have to make as many pots as possible. Good pots, bad pots, shitty pots, whatever. The more pots you make, the higher your grade.

The other half of the class were told, “you can make only one pot”. But that pot had to be perfect. The quality had to be high; the highest quality pot would get the best mark.

But when it came to the grading, they noticed something weird.

All the best quality pots were in the ‘quantity’ group.

The guys who were literally churning out pots, trying to make as many as possible, not concentrating on the quality. But every pot they made, made them better at making pots. By the end of the month (I think it was a month) - they had some pretty awesome pots coming out, because they enjoying finding all the ways and all the things they could do to make all their pots. Where as the ‘quality’ guys had spent their time reading up on pots, and technique, and researching and planning; which was all great but they’d had no further practice at actually making pots.

The best way to get really good at something, the only way to be really good at something, is to make lots of shitty attempts at that thing several of which will fail. If all you create are perfect things then you won’t improve, because how can you improve on perfect?

AMEN this goes for anything too!!! drawing, painting, sewing, knitting you name it. Its so much better to just do the thing your working on, shitty or not it takes less of a toll on you to just finish a thing than to worry about fucking it up first time.

There’s some Drama™ starting up that’s based heavily on misinformation and the actions of one rogue lawyer so I encourage y’all to fact check before spreading rumors. 

YES, the creator of the #INKTOBER hashtag has a book coming out;

YES, he previously asked one of his lawyers to have a cease and desist sent to a few COMPANIES selling Inktober-branded merch without permission;

NO, this was never intended to target artists selling and marketing their own work;

NO, there are no lawsuits going out targeting artists;

YES, Jake has contacted said lawyer instructing them to cut it the hell out:

Calm down folks. We’re good. Put the pitchforks away. 

It’s being dealt with. Breathe, and remember to fact-check before spreading panic.

I Changed My URL

For no particular reason (aside from maybe being a little tired of referring to myself as “Valerie” when it’s not my name and everyone knows it) I have changed my URL to a combination of nicknames from two of my friends.

My blog content won’t be changing at all aside from me trying to be more active. I just felt like it needed a little change.
