1. al-hashimi - august underground ໒꒱
this song portrays the specific feeling of staring death and violence right in the face, knowing that you are and that no matter what you do, you cannot do anything to escape it. it’s the feeling of being completely trapped, frozen, and unable to move, run away, or hide from it.
in al hashimi’s case, this is both within her (her seizures) and without (Robby yelling at her & finding reasons to bash on her and blame her for “not caring” and being reckless)
2. collins - dust bowl ໒꒱
this line specifically, the being so in love that you don’t even question the truth behind the admission, is what i imagine it was like in heather and robby’s early relationship. she was likely a bit naive and wanted so badly to believe the admission was true until the relationship didn’t end up working out. yet, she still has that little bit of faith in him after everything.
3. ellis - american teenager ໒꒱
it’s a bit more broad, but i think this represents perfectly what it’s like to work in healthcare. med students, interns, etc. they’re all bright and young until they enter the field where it’s all horrible and scarring, and sure, there’s that reassurance that “it’s not always this horrible”, but is it really true? ellis likely went through the exact same thing, and we can see at the end of pittfest how exhausted she is, but like everyone else, she’ll keep going and come back again tomorrow.
4. garcia - lilies ໒꒱
i think this song represents garcia and santos’ situationship perfectly. garcia wants to be able to love and open up to santos, but knows her avoidant tendencies will just result in her pushing her away and hurting her in the process (and does as seen in season 2) even though deep down, she doesn’t want to lose her.
5. perlah - radio towers ໒꒱
i imagine it’s the same as mckay, honestly. this song represents healthcare worker burnout, with the haunting, empty feeling of the radio tower beeps that fill the silence completely (which can double as a heart monitor). the emptiness besides it all presents a sense of uncertainty after everything that’s happened. and if it is interpreted as a heart monitor, it represents an agonizingly still hospital room with a heart that’s failing. perlah knows firsthand how difficult it is, and like dana and many others, she’s likely getting tired of seeing the worst of people every single day. (think of the roof fireworks scene where she’s hugging dana with tears in her eyes)
6. princess - american teenager ໒꒱
self explanatory. she is, indeed, doing what she wants for herself and doesn’t let anyone or anything stop her and her whimsy, even if it gets difficult!! (queen)
