- Chronically ill for 82% of my life with various post-infectious syndromes and their fallout. Furious that none of this has been seriously researched until 2020 and incandescent that anything not Long Covid is excluded from current research studies.

- Never tested positive for Covid—I say that not as a brag but as a statement on “masks (respirators) work” and “this is not impossible but you have to fucking sacrifice for it”. There may have been luck involved but don’t you dare dismiss it as merely “privilege”. I was gig working for Instacart in 2020.

- Mystery flavor of neurodivergent.

- Not gonna be performative about my politics. I’m far left. I support charities and mutual aid outside of tumblr. If I donate to a cause, you’re not going to know about it.

- Background of abuse in several different categories. My responses to shit which intersects with potential abuse may not take other points of view into consideration. Feel free to educate me on aspects which haven’t occurred to me but think about the nuance and consider whether there are points you’re not addressing either.

It's just. It's the dismissiveness that pisses me off the most. We can have a debate about the ethics of these industries if you want. But to sarcastically mock the very concept that animals might be treated poorly in a system that literally sells their body parts for profit, to the point where you dismiss the idea out of hand without doing any research at all, is frankly insane.

if you have a health condition you take any sort of rescue medication for & you start noticing symptoms, you may have a little voice in your head that says “i don’t need my rescue medication. i don’t feel that bad so i can probably skip it this time.”

it is imperative that you do not listen to that voice. that is the devil talking. take your rescue medication.

when i was prescribed my migraine rescue meds, i was advised to take one as soon as possible during a migraine attack, because it is much more effective that way. i was also cautioned against overusing the medication, as it can cause rebound headaches if taken excessively.

but what i heard was “try as hard as possible to avoid taking this medication unless you absolutely can’t bear it.”

if your brain works like mine, i want to assure you that “don’t overuse this medicine” doesn’t mean “try to avoid ever using it.” it actually means “take this medication only if you have symptoms. don’t take it as a daily routine medication or for no reason.”

today i woke up with the beginnings of a migraine. rather than try to power through until the pain became unbearable, i took my rescue meds as soon as i got out of bed. and wouldn’t you know, the meds were much more effective when taken early, just like they’d told me!!!

do not try to push through. do not listen to the little voice in your head. take your rescue medication.

Mask sign

Masking up really helps to reduce the spread of airborne illnesses (Covid's not over!), so I wear one in my shop, and have a sign on my shop door asking people to wear one too, so we can keep each other safe 😷👍

The old one had been there since restrictions in 2020 though, and was looking quite tired and a bit unfriendly, so I made a new one, which hopefully is more inviting!

genuinely wondering, where did the idea that vegans don't care about the welfare and conditions of the people who are picking fruits and vegetables? and why do non vegans make themselves exempt from it, as if they're eating completely different fruits and vegetables we vegans don't have access to?

if anything, i've had the exact opposite experiences non vegans are claiming. every vegan i've come across agrees that no person should be working under harsh and dangerous conditions, or be exploited for their labor, and fully understand where the food we eat comes from and want these systems to be dismantled and changed and work/advocate for it

while the non vegans i've talked to pull the "no ethical consumption under capitalism so who cares about how i choose to do things" excuse and don't even bother engaging with or thinking critically about the subject unless they want to pwn vegans or whatever.

I have a baby cousin who's Two Spirit.

Their parents are leftists, open minded, pro LGBTQ+, learned to use the right pronouns (to their face at least) all that jazz.

Their Auntie grew up in a remote area, little old fashioned, doesn't really "get" the non binary thing, and hasn't quite got the hang of the singular 'they' yet. But she tries.

When my cousin got injured and couldn't drive their parents shrugged and told them to quit their job.

Their Auntie drove them to and from work every day until they got their cast off.

Which family member do you think they'll ask next time they need help?

As far as I’m concerned, it’s fine to celebrate a massive peaceful scientific achievement that’s a collaboration between the US and Canada space programs during a time when there’s so much bad news elsewhere.

I personally hope that this encourages a lot of kids to grow up and defend our space agencies.

but DO techbros like nasa? a lot of techbros i see are super into the idea of privatized space travel industry and colonizing mars, the first of which nasa is directly opposed to, and the second which nasa isn't really focused on.

the techbros i see really aren't into the type of science nasa does focus on researching, which is far less glamorous than what they want.

Not only do tech bros generally hate the quiet kind of science that NASA does alongside the flashy launches (NASA is a primary reason why we have literally any weather data in the US), but tech bros REALLY hate the other half of the Artemis Program that I don't really hear people talk about much

Recent moments only my CC community can fully appreciate:

Explaining that 40-60% of Covid transmission is asymptomatic/pre-symptomatic only for them to say that they’re not sick and they would know if they were.

Someone volunteers how gross air travel is only to have them explain once they get picked up at the airport that they forgot the masks I provided for them at home. When they’re coming to help me recover from a medical procedure.

The push and pull of trying to champion mask-wearing for All The Reasons (local measles outbreak, tuberculosis, flu/covid/RSV) without hitting the button which turns off people’s ability to hear me.

Resisting the urge to both correct incorrect strap position on an N95 (bottom one at the nape, top one around upper half to upper third of head) and to suggest ways to improve coordination with hairstyle.

Resisting the urge to infodump all the N95, respiratory illness, and air filtration lore gained over the last six years and instead attempt to breadcrumb bits of info which may stick.

Observing Covid infighting on posts where people just have to Be The Most Right or have elaborate takedowns of Swiss Cheese elements and wondering if these people are providing clarity despite their distasteful attitude or are infiltrating agitators.

Attempting a balance of sympathy for people who cancel plans due to respiratory illness with letting them know I HAVEN’T HAD A COLD SINCE 2022 but also trying not to make it sound bragging or judgmental.

The sinking feeling when I suspect that the majority of people I know have Long Covid symptoms but they’re blaming perimenopause or pre-existing mental health or a bad flu season.
