Of all the little indignities late stage capitalism offers, the one I am most fed up with right this second is the idea that we know having your data harvested and sold is a bad thing for the general public, but rather than just making it illegal to sell people's names, addresses, marital status, purchase history, etc, instead of making that just not a thing its legal to sell, we have laws (we in this case being the united states of america) that require companies to delete the information they have on you if you ask them to do so. And so of course there are thousands of these companies with this information so its more or less impossible for a normal person with a fucking job to keep on top of this so there is also a whole fucking industry dedicated to charging you a subscription fee to make these requests for you. And I have no proof that those companies are owned by the same fucks who own the data companies, but what I'm saying is if I see another ad for deleteme or incogni or whatever I'm going to fucking shit.

Someone who's work I'm very found of once said, I'm probably paraphrasing, "Capitalism doesn't solve problems, it monetizes them." And yeah. and fuck capitalism for that.
