African royalty was included in Greek hero myths. Andromeda, who Perseus saved from a sea monster, was the daughter of a mythical king of Aethiopia. There were literally African people in the Iliad and Odyssey. Aethiopians under king Memnon supported the Trojans against the Greeks. Eurybates, Odysseus' herald, was described as "wooly-haired" and "dark-hued".

We also have mentions of people of "Aethiopian"* origin in the writings of the likes of Herodotus, Strabo and (possibly) Aristotle. Depictions of black people in Greek art as far back as the bronze age. Greek colonies and mercenaries in Africa centuries before Alexander the Great.

(*Aethiopian was used for dark-skinned people south of Egypt, originally mainly Nubians, later Sub-Saharan Africans, then the Aksumites of modern Ethiopia)
