HELLO!! It's my birthday, which means...welcome to the official demo for Sternutation Incantation! This is a sneak peek at the Choose-Your-Own Snzfic project I've been working on for about two years now!
The Story
Sternutation Incantation encompasses one day at Willownook Academy of Arcane Arts. A magical university tucked in a dense woodland, while still taking place in modern day. Itâs a fresh spin on a beloved magic school trope (but this one is told by a trans person of color)! Collect items, unlock secret endings, and customize your day in the life as a wizard! The demo contains 9 routes, and is 12,000 words long all told!
Meet the Characters
Thomas: A human evocation wizard with a knack for flying broom athletics! He's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he makes up for it with charisma...and a lot of questions.
Mycah: A tiefling conjuration wizard and a textbook nerd. He would much rather be studying for an exam than getting into trouble, especially with his allergies and sinus issues.
Reader: That's right, you! Yes, you. The reader is implied to be a transmutation wizard in this setting. They take the occasional risk, have a soft spot for helping others, and are a wizard of few words.

(self-indulgent feather fun. started a new job so writing's been tough, and i was already whittling down a lot of the time i was spending on it, anyway, lol. classic "don't sneeze" scenario. visual refs. fic masterlist.)
Juno's head lay cozily in her lap, giving Celeste a wonderful view of her face from above.
"Are you comfortable, love?" Juno gazed up at her, alert, but relaxed.
...At least, more relaxed than normal. It was always hard to say with her.
Her legs hung off the end of the sofa, but her back was fully supported, and Celeste's thighs made for a nice pillow. She's in nothing but a loose black tank top and some long black lounge pants Celeste gave her. Celeste, by contrast, is in an orange crop top and brown sweatpants, meaning Juno can feel the soft, warm skin of her stomach, see up close the patches of freckles spread out across the distance around either end of her navel, and also get a decent angle to look up to something a little racier, if she really wanted.
She doesn't, at present, or she would've asked Celeste to take the top off. This is nice enough already.
Her thighs? Soft. The couch? Firm, but she liked that. The heat from her body, cuddled up against her as she was? Heavenly. The comfort; the safety of being cradled against your lover's body, your hair brushed gently by her delicate hands, as all the world falls away around you?
Was she comfortable?
"Yeah."
Celeste smiled.
"Good. Are you ready?" Juno inhales through her nose, as though to test the waters, before nodding.
The brunette reaches behind Juno's ear, before waving the long, black feather she'd stuck there in front of her face as though she'd just done a magic trick.
"Then let's get started, huh?" She fans it against her own nose briefly, shaking her head and scrunching up her face, to emphasize how uncomfortable the feather was. Juno watches, sniffling as she feels a sympathetic tickle blossom in the base of her own nose.
Her breathing is steady. For now.
"Alright. Don't sneeze."
Juno's eyes trail the tip's path through the air, paying special attention to the way her lover deftly weaves it in and around--under her chin, making her gasp slightly, wincing, shutting her eyes, raising her head, just as Celeste had planned.
This angle had given her a good look at her face, but as Juno pressed the top of her head deeper into Celeste's lap, it gave her a view up into her nostrils.
Pale and pink flesh greets her, waiting, defenseless, and she presses a thumb up under Juno's jaw to hold her there.
It's not until the feather twirls just under the tip that she realizes what Celeste got her to do--and Celeste feels heat spreading around Juno's cheeks before she sees it.
"Uh-!" She gasps in earnest now, not expecting so much so quickly. Celeste, for her part simply continues twirling the feather; fluff finding its way around and inside the bare edges of both nostrils, sending an insistent tickle up and inside her nose before she realizes it.
She tries to squirm, but Celeste's thighs press up in conjunction with her left hand, keeping her head mostly steady. Keeping her nostrils--which themselves quiver as she attempts to wriggle her nose back from the feather--plainly in view.
"Ugh-hh-...nngh...huh!"
She's not sneezing yet, and Celeste knows it. She's just teasing her; giving her nose a little taste of what's to come, and reminding Juno who's in control right now. Giving her a sneezy, tickly feeling in her nose, but not quite enough to actually sneeze.
Juno has to fight it, anyway. This should be preferable.
"Nngh-! Uh-fff..."
Not that it's comfortable.
She wrestles herself back to composure, her face relaxing, eyes opening--though her lips remain slightly parted, puffing out another breath. Celeste thinks she can beat her, bend her will, and she's not having it.
She got lucky with the start. That was it. It was clever, she couldn't deny it. But now the real fight starts.
Or at least, that's what Celeste thinks must be going through her head, and it makes her heart go wild with anticipation, flushing her cheeks. In reality, the top thought on Juno's mind at the moment was, predictably:
As Celeste twirled the feather in place, twisting its soft stalk in and out of her nostrils, a little deeper, a little shallower, Juno breathed through her nose as much as she could, trying to avoid more vocal hitching; trying to deny she was responding at all.
In doing so, she pulls small bits of fluff from the ends of the feather, which go to work, spreading the tickle steadily around each wet patch of flesh they can find.
She stares into the middle distance with half-lidded eyes--twitching and blinking in response to the continually growing tickle filling the inside of her nose. She holds her lips together, then lets them fall open again, then presses them together, her small chin quivering, then-
"Look at me."
"Hgh-! H-huh?"
Their eyes meet.
Celeste stares into wet brown eyes struggling to keep her in focus, deliberately slowing the motion of the feather so that she can drink in her expression. As the tickle spreads further; extending off from the tip of the feather, fluttering around and irritating the tips of her nostrils, flowering up the walls and dusting around until finally a light amount of fluff makes it that much deeper into her sinuses--Juno's breath hitches, despite her struggling mouth, despite her hands digging into her thighs, despite the way she blinks, tears now building at the edges of her eyelids, uneven breaths making her chest bounce up and down, her breasts subtly responding in kind.
"Hggg-hhuUHh-hhyiehh-!"
The feather inches its way forward, and as Juno exhales, it comes out in a series of fitful sighs moving in time with her chest, her face--her nose, tingling in time with Celeste's feather.
"Gghh-uh-ugh...!"
She coughs as the tickle spreads further back in her throat.
She blinks, hard, nose scrunching up, gritting her teeth and trying to hold her breath, but as soon as Celeste starts moving it again--swishing it back and forth lightly, gently tickling the same spot, then another, then--the game is over, mostly. Juno's eyes shut, and her teeth are forced open as she gasps and attempts to wrestle for dominance with her nose.
She's-she can't-d-don't sneeze!
"Juno...uh, c-can-um- d-describe it." Celeste stumbles her way into giving a command.
Juno would feel compelled to point out that she doesn't have to try so hard if she weren't distracted.
In fact, she's barely able to parse what was just said through her impending sneeze.
"I-dhHhuh-hiGgh-hh-hhah-! Wh-what?"
Celeste stops moving the feather entirely, leaving Juno with the unpleasant implement buried deep among her nasal walls--no longer actively moving, but still bothering her enough passively to be impossible to ignore.
"Describe the-uh, feeling."
There's a brief pause, Juno still trying to blink her eyes open through the feather in her nose.
"Ihh-it, it-tickles-ghH!"
"...and?"
Juno hangs right on the torturous edge of a sneeze, unable to clear it; unable to make anything happen without Celeste's say-so. It itched. It itched, it tickled--the entire top half of her face felt like it had taken a dip in feather fluff, which she was sure was-
"Hhg-it, my-the f-feather! The, I, l-let me sneeze, please!"
Celeste swallowed, but remained still.
"I-it's-it's stuck! I-hHghuh-hhHuhhh-! I d-ugh-hHihhgh-n-need t-!"
No, not yet.
"It-it's so intense, I-I can't think, I c-hHh-!"
Boop. She pokes the tip of her nose.
"Ihh-it-I-it tickles...! HhhUh! HeEhh-!"
Celeste watches as Juno's nostrils flare and shrink with each breath, feeling her head press and lift as she struggles--watches pale hands white knuckle her thighs, then relax, splaying her fingers out, then tighten again--as her tongue and teeth fail to work more words from her quivering lips, high pitched whining gasps and exclamations as she tries with all of her might to hold back, or will it forward, she doesn't know which anymore...
...and she finally grows tired of watching; ready for the ending, she pinches the end of the feather and starts tickling, gently, slowly, but with increasing speed, and finally, try as she might, the tickle becomes too overwhelming.
Her chest swells with air as one final desperate gasp rips through, louder than the others, and-
-she succumbs to a sneezing fit, helplessly gasping and jerking back and forth, each breath in still finding the same feather waiting, the same tickly feeling, and yet more sneezes. Each sneeze brings only moderate relief, only serving to make the insistent tickle seem that much worse by comparison.
-filling the inside of her nose with a ceaseless, overpowering tickle.
"HnNgsschhuhh-! Ugh...uh-hhUh-!"
Celeste removes the feather, not unaware of the thin line of connective fluid that splits and disappears as she does so, and again makes eye contact with her nose--now twitchy, sniffling, shamefully wet, clearly still tickly, judging by the way Juno sniffs hard and grunts out one last small "Ugh..." as she opens her teary eyes to look at her again.
"...Finished?" Juno muttered, just loud enough for her to hear.
Brandishing the feather again, she considers that.
"...Not nearly. You have a whole other nostril, yknow. Heheheh!"
Hey, so, HUGE shoutout to the folks/characters with unvoiced sneezes. Hear me out:
I donât necessarily mean stifles when I say this, but stifles are kinda under the same umbrella.
What I mean is sneezes that sound further from an âachooâ sound and closer to a cough, growl, or otherwise sounds like a BUNCH of constants forced together. (Usually includes a âdtzzschâ sound).
These sneezes donât have the time to be voiced, and are the most practical-sounding sneezes. This is a sneeze that sounds like itâs actually expelling whatever is tickling it. Thick and nasally sounding, often times a little wetter than usual, especially if consecutive.
Cough-like sneezes also need more love!! If the practical sneeze is effective and satisfying, the cough sneeze is the opposite. Weaker, doesnât sound practical at all, and sometimes still leaves the nose yearning for another.
Iâve been on the journey to find the most unpopular sneeze takes and give them a bit of a boost!! I think these sneezes are great personally.
un-voiced sneezes (at least in my experience) tend to also be more forceful in order to expel the irritant especially when up against swollen nasal passages, so might i raise you:
the typically un-voiced practical sneezer who once in a while sneezes weird and ends up with a more cough like sneeze that in addition to doing nothing also hurts their throat because that force has nothing to really push against
"Oh dear, you're in a bad way." And it's said with such tenderness that his eyes begin to burn and blur. "Oh, no... I've upset you."
He shakes his head, squeezing his eyes shut so that the tears don't spill over. It's futile. They work their way through anyway.Â
"But I have." A cool palm sweeps across his forehead, brushing back the hair before it comes to rest for a moment against the hot, tight skin. "Now, tell me what's wrong."
Anyway you folks do you know what's hot? Hitches that catch. All sorts of marvellous hd-! and hhit...! and h'gh!! sounds. Like yes gasping and panting is choice already but just that extra extra audibly desperate edge telling you that someone is really really ready to explode.
Someone who always sneezes exactly 1.5 times. By that, I mean when they sneeze, a false start always follows after it.
This person has never fully experienced the relief of a sneeze because the hitching that follows puts them on edge again, only to fizzle out. It leaves them a ticklish mess for the next minute, and itâs enough to stun them.
Maybe itâs gotten to the point where their friends hurry to help them sneeze. Or maybe they crack jokes insteadâtelling them that second sneeze is a lost cause.
And itâs worse because in very rare cases, that elusive second sneeze does come out, and itâs incredibly rewarding. Itâs what has them desperately trying to encourage the second sneeze whenever the first happens.
Maybe a significant other says they âjust have a shy noseâ(Which, aside, pair a character with a stoic or walled-off personality with a âshy noseâ and itâs perfect).
To people who start to sneeze right after sniffing a flower / kicking up some dust / spritzing some perfume / opening the blinds and seeing the sun: How does it feel to be the most hot person alive and how does it feel knowing that I'd risk it all for a chance to see that happen
maybe a bit niche, but there is an appreciable difference between tickling a nose with a feather, and tickling inside a nose with a feather.
in this case, i actually find tickling on the edges and outside of the nose to be hotter when it elicits a heavy reaction. gosh, your nose is so sensitive! this biiiiig fluffy feather brushing up against it so gingerly...it's just the bare edge of your nostrils, and you've already got to sneeze this bad? oh honey...your poor little nose is sooo helpless...
you're just gonna sneeze and sneeze and sneeze....
Sneezes that takes forever to build. Like starting with that small but imminent tickle in the nose, then prickles sharper and makes the person involuntarily take those hitching breaths, bracing for the inevitable.
'....hhh, hhhh... I'm gonnahh... ugh wait, it's right therehh.. hhh, hhh...! sorry, I can feel it, it's... hhh, ghhh...! ...it's hh, hhh... Hhhhhh...!'
The idea of someone sitting miserably curled against a wall, face shoved into their knees, stuck in a frantic loop of tensing muscles as they allow sneeze after desperate sneeze wrench through their body, too tired to hold back any longer. When the fit finally recedes they simply slump there, leaning heavily against the wall as if it is all that is keeping them upright,breath ragged and sniffling heavily every few seconds but too worn out to do anything besides rub the dripping mess into their already saturated jeans. Just the idea of a state of pure, primal, sneezy misery.
thinking about a person whose initial snz is restrained, polite, almost matter-of-fact, but then it soon devolves into a fit of multiples that only intensify in irritation and urgency, until each subsequent snz is followed by desperate, pitchy gasps that completely ruin the âplay it coolâ attitude they had tried to start out with
lips parting, breath catching in uneven hitches. hand coming up quickly, pressing beneath the quivering nostrils as the eyelashes flutters against the tickling sensation.
the sneezes tumbles out and desperate to muffle them, shoulders jerks with the sudden release. harsh but stifled into cupped hands, leaving the nose pink and damp as they lower the hands with a rough sniffle.
'...still.... hhhhh, not done.' they express, staying half-bent for a moment, blinking rapidly, fishing out a fresh tissue from the pocket with a thick wet sniffle before another build up takes them over.
the second round hits them harder and they have to lean their shoulder against the wall, keeping the crumbled tissue close to their mouth as the sneezes keeps coming, harsh and now explosive.
A scenario I find hella cute is when a group of friends briefly get caught by a passing irritant â like sudden dust kicked up by a truck â and they all cough, get watery eyes, maybe even sneeze a bit, but it passes. Except for one particular friend who has continued to sneeze minutes afterwards⊠a light flush imprinted on their face clearly signalling that itâs affected them more than the rest. Did they already have allergies? A cold? Is dust just their big weakness? Nobody knows, but they definitely get playfully teased becauâGOD why are you STILL sneezing??
