Still here..
Some quotes just land quietly, sounding nice enough, and then there are the ones that hit you harder. The ones that feel strangely personal, like they’re holding up a mirror you didn’t know you needed, and for me, this was one of them.
The idea isn’t that a woman is unbreakable because nothing has ever hurt her. Actually, it feels like the opposite. Real strength comes from knowing exactly how much it hurts to break—and deciding to keep going anyway.
I’ve had my share of days where strength wasn’t a word I’d use to describe myself. Some mornings, just getting out of bed counted as a win. I’ve watched plans fall apart. I’ve felt people let me down. Life spun me around and left me not really sure where to go next. Still, I kept moving, even when I doubted if certain things were worth it. But look... I’m still here, and that’s the part that sticks with me.
Not untouched or unchanged. Not pretending everything’s been fine, because we all know not everything always is. Just... here... And let’s be honest, there’s power in that alone. Survival isn’t always some big, dramatic thing. Sometimes it’s deciding to try again, whether or not something works out. Sometimes it’s working toward something completely different while quietly wondering if it’ll work at all. Sometimes it’s simply refusing to let bitterness settle in, even when life gives you reason after reason to give in.
Your story isn’t finished just because something has hurt you. You still get a say in what happens next. For me, I don’t want strength to mean I’ve frozen over or stopped caring. I refuse to believe kindness is some sort of weakness, that trusting someone is “foolish,” or that caring somehow makes me less strong as a person.
Honestly, I’d rather grow wise than turn frozen cold like a block of ice. I want boundaries, but I want compassion, too. I want to know when to walk away, but I don’t want to stop caring for others. There’s a kind of strength that announces itself—loud, bold, intimidating. But I’m more drawn to the quiet kind. The kind that shows up in being gentle after life has given you every excuse to harden your heart, and then there’s that line about being “dangerous where it counts.”
Sadly, I understand it more than most. But it doesn’t mean being mean or cruel. To me, it means knowing who I am, knowing my worth, knowing what I’ll accept and what I won’t, and knowing that I can stand my ground without needing to prove myself to literally everyone around me.
There’s something powerful about not having to show your strength all the time. Having the quiet confidence to know what you’re capable of and knowing when that strength actually matters. Not wasting it on ego or bravado. Not needing to be the loudest person in the room just to prove you can be.
I think that’s the kind of power that actually lasts. It’s not about never feeling afraid or broken. It’s about moving forward anyway. It’s about letting life change you without letting it turn you into someone you’re not proud of.
Maybe that’s what real resilience is: not “never coming undone,” but learning how to put yourself back together. Sometimes a little different, maybe even better.
Right now, I’m still in the messy middle of things. I’m still learning, still healing, still letting go, still starting over. I don’t know what future-me will look like, but I hope she feels proud of this version of me today.
The woman who kept trying, even with all her doubts. The woman who still dreamed, created, cared, found reasons to laugh, and found reasons to try again. That’s what unbreakable sounds like to me. Not untouchable by pain, but untouched by defeat, because pain doesn’t erase you. People leave, plans change, and life will never always go your way or according to plan. Things don’t always turn out the way you thought they would. Sometimes they turn out better, especially after they get worse first.
There’s still a piece of you that gets to choose what happens next, and that’s the part I want to hold onto. The part still reaching forward, still believing there’s something good ahead. I’ve changed, sure. But those things don’t get to write my ending.
I’m still here.
Still learning. Still growing. Still soft where it matters. Still willing to care., and maybe, just maybe, a little tougher to crack. That’s exactly how I want to move through the world, and through life.
Not untouched or unbreakable. Just open and still here.
