Gif stands for Graphics Interchange Format. when graphics is pronounced “JAFFICKS” Then I will pronounce Gif with a “J”
^ This
It’s followed by an R of course it would be a hard g. But Giraffe is a soft g. Genius is a soft g. Gin is pronounced with a soft g too. GIF is I following a g, it would be pronounced with a soft g.
It aint Jif peanut butter though.
It would still be pronounced like that. The general rule is if the g is followed by an e or i, it’s soft g. U or a consonant is generally a hard g.
I will DIE WITH MY HONOR
Gear =/= Jear
Get =/= Jet
Gift =/= Jift
Give =/= Jive
In English, words with a ‘G’ followed by an ‘e’ or an ‘i’ can be pronounced with either a hard ‘G’ or a soft ‘G’.
Words with Germanic roots such as ‘gear’, ‘get’, ‘gift’, ‘give’ (see above) are pronounced with a hard ‘g’ while words with Latin or Greek roots such as ‘gem’, ‘general’, ‘giraffe’, ‘giant’, are pronounced with a soft ‘g’.
So no, it’s not exactly a “general rule” that ‘g’ followed by an ‘e’ or an ‘i’ makes a soft ‘g’ sound.
Additionally, “GIF” is an ACRONYM starting with a word that begins with a hard ‘g’ sound, so “GIF” is therefore pronounced with a hard ‘g’.
We fight with honor
via @greenwoodthegreat. I could not have said it better, my friend.
Thor agrees.
This is a perfect compromise, it makes everyone unhappy.
You know, I can’t argue with that.
Giraffe is with a soft G??? Sweetie…
It is a soft G, we say jerraffe instead of Grraffe.
Of course, if we need too, there’s always the compromise of Yiff-raffe
Good news. Language is dumb and I’ve rewritten it.
u know that thing where an animals grow in a far off place and some idiot introduces him to a new habitat and it turns out its characteristics that help them in their own sometimes are too helpful in the new one and they become like an invasive species yeah thats the word i was missing anyway back to my point i think i saw a human version of that just now i was driving in tonights snow storm and i saw a man wearing a big ass cowboy hat to keep the snow off him and a bandit red bandana to keep it off his face and a big ass pancho to keep him warm and nice ass cowboy boots to keep his calves dry and he was prancing along while everyone on the road looked miserable and frozen solid and idk i guess the point im trying to make here is i feel like cowboys would have taken over russia if given the chance or something
As an Evolutionary Biologist, this is a roller-coaster from start to finish.
THERE'S A FROG IN MY ROOM WHAT
SIR THIS IS THE SECOND FLOOR
I'M DRUNK I CAN'T TAKE CARE OF HIM HOW DID HE GET HERE WHAT DO I DO I'M NOT CAPABLE OF PROTECTING HIMMMMM
You know, I'm a city girl so I'm usually scared of any wildlife but he's actually pretty cute. I'm gonna call him Charlie
Charlie and I are already the best of friends I gave him a McDonald's coupon because what if he's hungry
He needs to spice up the look if we're gonna be friends I'm helping him out with some band merch
I was worried about Charlie being dead but he started jumping and he jumped on my bass. I knew Charlie was a punk rock icon
I opened the window so Charlie could be free and he's approaching it now. Looks like it's time for us to part.
So I'm sober now and I almost had a fucking heart attack when I went to get my wallet
This seems like an exaggeration until you actually work in fast food.
look, i dont care what directors say in behind-the-scenes or interviews, if they dont present that information in the film, they are bad story tellers. like, we had to assume everyone attended your comiccon panel? like? no. you are bad at story telling. if a character appears with zero context, it is confusing. i am not saying spoon feed the audience, but goddamn, there are plot devices that should be there to explain why that character showed up. not just information from your twitter. i shouldnt have to absorb five layers of media for your film to make sense
