So Sonic X DC continues to be absolutely fantastic in terms of just throwing the characters together and letting the dynamics write themselves. An utter delight to read for sure. But uhhh… I want to draw attention to ONE particular moment in the latest issue that I think deserves further scrutiny.

So this issue mostly revolves around Lex Luthor and Eggman’s attempts to play each other and part of how they do that is through the use of Rouge and Catwoman…

(Some absolutely WONDERFUL Selina facial expressions in those bottom two panels shout out to Adam Bryce Thomas.)

(Come to think of it Lex ALSO gets some incredible facial reactions.)

…only to reveal that they’re both on the dime of the Justice League playing the two villains even further.

This is all well and good and VERY fun but I want to draw attention to two panels in particular. First this one:

Yeah that checks. Eggman is the type of person to bloviate to anyone who will listen but I dunno, Lex is a bit trickier. You’re probably gonna need to do more to persuade him. Perhaps turning the page will reveal more info—

There is something very funny about IDW Sonic expanding on the concept of Wispons, getting rid of the more realistic humans, and then just fucking giving Clutch a gun.

MY (OTHER) WET PATHETIC BOY! INFINITE IS BACK! (I assume, given the Phantom Ruby mention.)

That actually makes a lot of sense, I kept wondering why they were being so weirdly coy about Mimic in episode 3 but it makes a WHOLE lot more sense if Mimic was a red herring and instead the various doubles were illusions created by the Phantom Ruby instead. (Or maybe Mimic is temporarily working for Infinite, he's a hired gun he goes where the cash is.)

Either way we need to ask the most important question:

Is Infinite in control of the phantom ruby illusions? Or are they their own entities? Because if so, and Rouge is an illusion, then it's not ROUGE who keeps trying to fuck Espio. It's INFINITE.

AND WHAT WOULD IAN JR. THINK IF HE KNEW THAT??????????????

The entire internet alternating between "lol gay" and "*shaking him by the collar* WHAT ARE YOU DOING? HOW ARE YOU FUMBLING THIS?" is the funniest part of Espio's arc in The Chaotix Casefiles.

I have heard about 2 lines from Tangle and 10/10 casting. Perfect. No notes. Haven’t even checked to see who it is yet. They completely understand the assignment.

Like, we knew something like this was coming. Even though Belle has resigned herself to the fact that the person who was her father is long gone, this still stings a lot for her. Meeting another "little girl" creation of Eggman's (who also calls him "Father," which none of the other robots do), but this time it's the "real" Eggman who's made her?

Well, as we see later, Belle feels straight-up replaced. And even though she'd never join Eggman's side, she can't help but feel bitter about it. 🥺

She's even snippy about Sonic having any good relations with Sage, to the point where after Sonic made an effort to calm her down during one of the girls' arguments, she snapped at him in a heated moment.

And then immediately realized what had just burst out, and was horrified. 😭

Meeting Sage surely stirred all her old bad feelings and grief all over again. And I'm sure there's more beef to come in the next few issues. But among other reasons, this is where I'm really glad it was Sonic of all people who was with her. The type of friend she needed the most. 🥹💙

Quick with a reassuring hand, a smile, and a reminder that she was irreplaceable simply because she was his friend. 🥹😭💙💙💙 (Honestly, between all the verbal cat fights this issue, Sonic was the steady and level-headed presence that they all needed. 🥰💙)

Updated to a cleaner version of my header. This is still by far and away my favorite cover @loopy-lupe has ever done for the series. Are there better ones? Sure. But the sheer ungodly number of jokes and references blows my fucking mind every time.

Mild out of context Spoilers for Anthony Horowitz’ Moriarty, but my favorite thing about this novel — which for the record was officially commissioned by the Conan Doyle Estste — is that all of London’s crime is being masterminded by essentially a dark mirror version of Team Chaotix.

Vector is still the brains, ego and glue that holds everybody together, but instead of solving crimes he commits them and instead of being dirt poor he has infinite money.

Espio is still a man of few words and many skills in stealth and weaponry, but instead of a strong code of honor, respect for his foes and love for his teammates, he’s only in it for the cash, is lowkey racist and doesn’t care about the other team members.

Charmy still has way too much energy and rushes headlong into everything but instead of being a curious but well meaning kid, he’s a sadistic murder hobo who just happens to be a child.

Mighty is also present until he isn’t.
