SALTBURN (2023) dir. Emerald Fennell
i have this zosan theory that sanji understands zoro better than zoro understands sanji. they both instinctually βgetβ each other in crisis situations but i think there are more instances of sanji directly responding to zoroβs internal conflict than the other way around. punk hazard βheβs so hard on himselfβ and alabasta βadmit it youβre worried about luffyβ and thriller bark βhe didnβt sacrifice himself for acclaimβ, etc etc. whereas zoro worries for sanji a lot (the sea train call and zou come to mind) but doesnβt seem to fully get him in these moments. i donβt think he really picked up what sanji was putting down in the wano death pact moment either β i donβt even think he knows about the germa mutation stuff.
which makes it kind of funny that in fanon zoro always seems to be the one providing understanding and emotional support to sanji lmao.
Absolutely agree about Sanji reading Zoro better.
That's Sanji's empathy, he does that with everyone (Alabasta displays him doing this also with Luffy, Nami and Vivi).
The fanon thing, imo, is because Zoro doesn't need to understand Sanji to provide good, down-to-earth and honest support. He's an idiot so he might be hurtful doing so, but him being rational makes him a perfect balance to Sanji's emotional spiraling. Like, Zoro doesn't get half of the things that happen both physically and emotionally (it doesn't mean that he doesn't feel them), but he's there when it matters. And I mean, a lot of the time poor Sanji just needs a damn hug >_< Also at the same time, while Sanji sees Zoro, Zoro perceives Sanji. It shows in the way he reacts to him and actively seeks him. There's still a balance because I think Sanji needs to be perceived more than he needs to be understood, and Zoro provides that in his gruff way.
(I don't know if any of this makes sense, op inspired the rambling thanks op β₯)
ok oplaβs first major L
what is even the point of Sanji coming along to drum castle if he doesnβt sacrifice himself to save nami? That is of great importance to understanding his character going forward.
The joke fight with the otter ruined the casual competence of his conversation with mr 0, which was bad but not as bad as this. You donβt have to take away all of his character establishing moments just to get rid of the sexism. hell, some of the sexism shouldβve stayed and just been dealt with as an actual character flaw, instead of Oda treating it like itβs actually Basedβ’ or some shit. (and the stupid pervy gags were worth getting rid of, because it literally and unsurprisingly turned into predator shit later down the line)
Keep taking away his defining scenes, and the only thing saving opla Sanji from being boring as hell is Taz having the saddest wettest eyes imaginable and tons of chemistry* with literally everyone
(*iβm mostly referring to acting chemistry, to be clear. but yeah also every other kind of chemistry π)
plausible deniability remains highly erotic
let's convince ourselves that this is okay. let's rely on technicalities to exonerate ourselves. let's avoid looking what we're doing in the eye. let's live under its shadow, both aware of what this is but unwilling to say it out loud, since that will shatter the careful illusion we've built
Moralistic Narcissism
So somatic narcissism and cerebral narcissism are established categories, but consider: one way to get self-esteem supply is to be More Moral. I think this is a useful category of narcissism which is very under-recognized.
Narcissism is largely support beams for injured self-esteem. Something you can always lean on to feel good about yourself no matter how much the world hits you with hurtful judgment, shame, embarrassment, ostracism, and so on. Something that lets you reliably do ego-saving or face-saving redirects like "whatever, I'm still better", ideally while adding "in every way that matters".
Somatic narcissism does that by taking pride in bodily or physical things. Cerebral narcissism does that by taking pride in mental things. Moralistic narcissism does that by taking pride in things highly esteemed as moral - honesty, religious piety, altruism, being virtuous, unmasking bad people, persecuting evil, and so on.
I think a whole lot of narcissism goes unnoticed because it looks like moral righteousness, zeal, or extremism aligned with widely held values.

Iβve been thinking I would like to kill him. I would like to see the way his muscles move, I would have him flayed. Open and vulnerable like I must be to him. I think I would like to swallow him up and spit his bird-like frail little bones. I think I would like to fuck him, I think I would like to make him cry.
I think I would love to love him. I think I would love it if he loved me. /end ID]
Trauma boy is telling him that he isn't gay, even though they have been fucking, kissing and killing people for months
In all seriousness, Γ prefer the reading of heterosexual Sangwoo, as opposed to the fanon "nah he is just in denial" statement. He doesn't find Bum sexually or romantically attractive but he still feels drawn to him, because he literally has never experienced something like he had with him. No friendship or sexual relationship he ever had is comparable to the inevitable bond he and Bum share. They end up living together, caring for each other, killing together, protecting each other, and have given each other that what they thought the other needed. Reassurance, understanding, acceptance, companisonship, love, physical touch and yes, even sex, so that the other may stay with them.
So yes, Sangwoo may identify as straight but still has sex with Bum because he fears abandonment and this is his unique way of trying to preserve what he has aquired; this strange stability and bond with Bum.
Iβm fine (π)
Poor him
All this talk about Zoro dirty talking during fights, but no one ever mentions how Zoro made a man cu-(GETS SHOT)
I REMEMBER ANON I TALK ABOUT HOW HE MADE A MAN CUM AND ZORO EVEN ASKED IF THAT FELT GOOD
Yeah Sanji, what about him?
This...
This is the sequence that made Sanji feel atracttion for Nami
But this... THIS is the sequence that made Sanji fall in love with Nami

i cant believe its one piece of all anime that gets to break the live action adaptation curse. this is so funny. the most unadaptationable anime is the one that. fucking . makes it. my face hurts from laughing and smiling too much. everyone did their damn thing. whatever criticism we lob at this thing doesn't fucking matter anymore. people dont get it. but i do. the goal of a live action adaptation, first and foremost, is to make me, specifically, fall in love with the story and characters all over again. and i did.
saw a one piece live action character impressions post that pegged luffy as having daddy issues which is hilarious to me because luffy has, like, the opposite of daddy issues. he has daddy solutions. if you hang out with luffy long enough, your father-related angst starts to resolve. this has happened to multiple characters.
Luffy didn't even know he had a dad until water 7 arc
