Solaria and her beloved daughter
Final episode is a little controversial, but let’s talk about one of the best scenes in it and what it’s implies.
When Eclipsa was a young girl she was really close with her mother. The way she mimics her gestures in the previous episode, picture in Solaria’s chapter in which Eclipsa sits on her mother’s back with a sword in her hand. I’m sure before her meeting with Globgor Eclipsa wanted to be just like her mother. (What’s more, show always were pretty clear with not only Star-Eclipsa parallels, but with Moon-Eclipsa as well. And since Moon had a strong bound with her mother and wanted to be like her before a certain incident that happened during her teenage years it’s safe to assume that the same goes for Eclipsa).
But after that Eclipsa realised that the way her mother rules the kingdom is wrong. In The Right Way she says she’s sworn to herself to never use her mother’s spells in the fear of turning in her.
Though, Globgor definitely changed Eclipsa’s opinion on Queen Solaria, she still loved her Mother Solaria. In the book of spell Eclipsa says she can’t even properly mourn her mother’s death.
However, it’s became harder and harder every day since after Solaria’s death Eclipsa had to deal with her will (marriage with Shastacan) and legacy she left behind. She couldn’t simple turn it all down, not with Solarians near her kingdom’s gate. But it was fine. But once 300 years later Queen Solaria’s legacy kept ruining her life… It’s definitely was a huge pressure on Eclipsa. The fact that Mina keeps reminding her that she betrayed Queen’s ideals and that her mother’d be very disappointed in her if she could see her probably also wasn’t any help.
So once Eclipsa confronts her in the realm she can’t bring herself to look at her. What would her mother think of her now when she married a monster and has a half-monster daughter?
Eclipsa definitely hasn’t realised just how much her mother loves her. For Solaria her daughter is the most important thing in the whole world. The way she treats Mina in the realm proofs it.
Her daughter’s life takes priority. So, go to hell Mina for trying to murder her.
Of course, I can be wrong and it’s a 300 years of death that changed her, but I have a feeling that if Solaria had lived long enough to see Eclipsa fleeing Mewni she’d have change her attitude towards monsters for Eclipsa.
So. At the end this happens.
They finally met. Both of them realize just how messed up every is/was. You can see all the guilt they feel. The way Eclipsa looks at her mother, waiting for words of disappointment, just breaks my heart.
But then Meteora gets Solaria’s attention and…
She just gently touchs her precious granddaughter!
Through the whole interaction Eclipsa and Solaria said nothing. But they don’t need any words.
Eclipsa finally realizes just how big her mother’s love and gets Solaria’s approval on her life choice. Solaria on the other hand, finds peace with monsters with Eclipsa’s (and maybe Meteora’s) help.
They both can finally rest and let all the pain go.
