My last blog post was about unleashing your inner princess, but what about the girls with a darker edge? The girls who prefer the mystery and the allure of what lurks below. This one is for you! In a world of hyperfemininity on the rise, i’ve noticed a severe lack of content for the self proclaimed “man eaters”. I dedicate this post to you and all of the women like you! I hope you enjoy. :)
The Origin
A bit of a different start from my other how to guides, and that has a good reason! Sirens have an origin story, a depth that a lot of my other how to guides didn’t need! To truly embrace yourself in a siren coded aesthetic, it’s important to understand what it is that you’re engaging in. To begin, sirens in greek mythology have various forms of origins. From companions of Persephone to women transformed into half bird creatures to help find her. In their entirety one thing remains the same, they have become a symbol of temptation and carnivorous desire.
In Homer’s Odyssey, he depicts these half bird creatures who lure men to their deaths. Somehow along the line in the medieval times, their image transformed from birds to mermaid adjacent creatures. Their brand had transformed to something conventionally gorgeous, a beautiful woman with a song as sweet as lust and a scaling tail with a blood-thirst. The first literary example of the siren being shown in a new light is the Anglo-Latin catalogue Liber Monstrorum. The transformation to the cult classic sea creatures had been reassigned to “sea girls.. with the body of a maiden, but have scaly fishes’ tails.” Which now brings us to the 21st century of the seductive and dangerous mermaids we know now!
The Look
Now the aesthetic for a modern siren-esque look is simple. Think of our first look at the title? Which for most of us would be Vanessa from The Little Mermaid! Pearls, black and long painted nails. Finding this look is probably the easiest, because in all honestly the look of a siren comes entirely from within. Exuding a type of confidence that is so rare and all powerful, it has no choice but to be seen and felt.
Of course telling you to just “be confident” isn’t what you’re here for. So I will cut the shit and keep it frank. If you want to look and feel like a siren, dress how you would feel your sexiest in. That’s precisely what a siren is right? It’s the physical look of lust and sin. To truly transform yourself, you have to think what would make you feel the sexiest. For most people that is the most beautiful color combination of black and red. Long flowing skirts for a more beach siren look and skin tight dresses for a sultry vibe. Deep colors are the ideal for the aesthetic, mixing in dainty accessories like pearly whites and golds and silvers. Belt chains, shell necklaces and rings or bangles for days are exactly how to get the look you are going for.
The Mindset
As most of you are aware, if you’re on any side of the “man eater” side of the internet, a lot of the advice given to be a real siren is to be a manipulative bitch. Well here I am to set the record straight. Embracing and unlocking your inner “siren” has absolutely NOTHING to do with being a bitch or a player. It is all about the confidence you exude, and the standards you hold yourself to.
Like many books i’ve read, The Art of Seduction being no exception, it teaches you that to get what you want you need to be in control. You have to take leadership and manipulate and control those around you for you to succeed in being a siren. And with such impressionable women on this app who will take such advice true to their hearts, I think it’s time we put an end to the stereotypes and show how to use your power to benefit yourself and your life WITHOUT ruining others. This is something I have been a victim of, thinking the only way to be taken seriously is to cut and run before I was ran off on. However that is just blatantly untrue. You don’t have to put up with things you’re undeserving of and should always put yourself first, but you can have all of these things without losing the good in yourself. Confidence, boundaries and self respect is the key to truly unlocking anything.
The Material Sources
For the sake of not rambling on and on, I will put all of my remaining thoughts here. Books, music and shows, you name it. Starting with books and shows, obviously this list would be null and void if I DIDNT suggest The Odyssey, I mean come on?! Homer’s interpretation is one of the first and the best and I have to give him his credit for it. a If you do however want the actual plot of a mermaid-ified siren then I suggest Whispers of the Deep which is a mermaid romantasy. I’ve heard nothing but good and fun reviews on it!
As for shows and movies, the classic and obvious choice is Siren which is too good not to share. The story follows a young girl Ryn who has mysteriously shown up. Siren’s plot follows her story and the towns history of sirens and mermaids. There is 3 seasons and I personally think it’s a good watch. For a more horror oriented movie, The Lure (2015) is a polish tale about 2 twin sisters who find themselves intertwined in a love triangle when they fall for the same boy. It is a tragic retelling of The Little Mermaid.
Now finally, my favorite aspect of any of these posts, the music! Of course, like any other blog post i’ve made, I have a special playlist dedicated to the aesthetic of choice. Since gatekeeping is evil and cruel, I will link it right HERE! My top and favorite picks from the playlist are Salvatore by Lana Del Rey of course. The way she sings in the chorus makes me feel like I am being lured at sea, there is something so magical and alluring about her vocals. The Fruits by Paris Paloma, a beautiful song with insane imagery told through her lyrics. I don’t personally think it is about sirens and more so about sin and temptation but I think that ties into “siren-ism” very well. And last but not least, Vanessa’s Trick from the live action of The Little Mermaid. A beautiful song sang by a beautiful woman, a true staple in a playlist about sirens.
In Conclusion…
The art of unlocking the inner siren is not about what you see or what you look like, it’s all in the way you feel. Be who you are and be confident in that, show yourself and others that shows your character. Being kind is never a weakness, but using others to get yourself further is! Be hot and be true to you! The beginning of spring, where we as a society begin to yearn for the warm weather and sweet rays of sun, has begun to peek through. A glimpse of what summer will bring and give to us, along with the promise of spring. This month, I feel as though i’ve focused on rebuilding my habits and trying to become a more active person. Between reaching out and reconnecting with old friends and trying to spend more time with the ones I have, it’s been a month of rekindling for me for sure.
This month, I feel like I have been yearning for summer and that definitely shows in all of the media I have consumed. While I haven’t exactly been the most productive this month, I have definitely been enjoying myself and prioritizing mental health by consuming fun and comforting things. I truly hope you enjoy, or at least feel inspired and here are the things I have consumed in the hopeful month of April!

Within the month of April, I have found myself gravitating towards the feel good summertime feeling media. The classics with shows and movies of course, looking through anything that just gives me summer energy. Almost every single tv show has been a rewatch, but the movies are almost exclusively new watches surprisingly!
୨୧ Sex and the City - Season 1/2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I absolutely adore this series, while all of them are a bit controversial at times and flawed all in their own way, this is definitely one of the most entertaining shows i’ve ever seen. It was a rewatch because I absolutely devoured it last year, and i’ve picked it back up again this month for some cozy messiness. This show feels like a family reunion.
୨୧ Love Island - Season 6 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One of the best, but messiest seasons by far. This season truly makes you realize that the show is not only about finding romantic love, it is about finding the platonic love too. I adore the friendship between PPG and it is truly one of the best representations of girlhood out there. Another rewatch, but absolutely a good one.

This is the best show I have and will ever watch. This month is definitely about seeking out familiarity and comfort because everything i’ve watched is a rewatch but this one is unbelievably worth it. Oh my god. If there is anything you watch from this list, pick this. It has everything. It has drama and romance, love and agony and the feeling of wanting so desperately to be loved that it consumes you. I adore this series and is one of the best book adaptations out there! Wow.

Holy shit this movie absolutely crushed my soul. I don’t think I will ever view love and addiction the same. This movie was beautiful and it made me cry my eyes out. Angelina Jolie did such a phenomenal job and I am absolutely in awe. Beautiful movie and beautiful story.

This was a rewatch after watching Gia because I was on the verge of a crisis and it definitely got the job done. It was funny and controversially humorous but I completely forgot how bad this movie is LOL. The party sister clearly peaked in high school and is living the rest of her life that way, and the other sister is desperate to fulfill her childhood fantasy and everything goes to shit. All I will say is the parents in this are way nicer than I am.

This was also another feel good movie during my movie binge, and I hate rating it the same as sisters because it’s so much better. However, the main character is kind of insane and the cheating plot and victim blaming is astounding. Insanely stacked cast, but most of these characters are really just not very likable.

Dakota Johnson was in everything from the late 2010s oh my god? I realized I had never seen it, and with my sisters push I watched it. Absolutely cried my eyes out, and I think the idea of the plot was beautiful and very humorous. However, too much of this movie was spent on her baby gay relationship and her AWFUL best friend. I completely understand why the mc was so upset because what the actual hell was going on there? It was good but I can’t see myself watching this again.

Oh my. This shockingly was my first watch of this movie, and it did not disappoint at all. I was on the edge of my seat the entire movie and now I need to read the book. I am absolutely blown away by the acting and the casting. Again?? Stacked!!! It is a staple in the girlblogger genre for a reason. These two crazy people absolutely deserve each other. Insane and amazing. If you haven’t seen it, you’re crazy and watch it STAT!

A rewatch, but such a fun one. Step up is one of my favorite 2000s movies and it covers so much. I love the message it sends and the relationship between Tyler and Nora is so so sweet. Genuinely an unbeatable movie. This series in itself is all so good and so amazing and only gets better but Step up 1 and 2 are good because they’re raw and real. I love this movie and I need everyone else to love it too.

I am embarrassed to say I spent the entire month working through one singular book… and it was so easy to get through. I am the world’s biggest procrastinator and it takes me so long to get through anything because of it. I am going to try to get through more books next month and hopefully fill this section a little bit more!
୨୧ Twisted Lies ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
As shocking as it may seem, this was actually such a fun and cute romance book. The third act breakup genuinely had me sobbing, something the other books in the series hadn’t done, and I truly was so in love with every single character. The epilogue was adorable and the bonus chapters were even cuter. I am such a sucker for romance, and this definitely scratched that itch for me. Ana Huang they could never make me hate you girl.
