This Pinterest comment about Anakin Skywalker is so on the money. Seeking help in a way that might result in him losing his place in the Order? Nah. A way that might give him more power than the Order could give him? Yah.

It's almost hilarious to see Anakin fans getting bent out of shape and confused about fans who blame Anakin more than anyone else for what happens to the galaxy, for Order 66, for the rise of the Empire. "Why do people blame Anakin so much?? Sure he committed a genocide but that doesn't mean he's the MOST to blame!" they cry.

Maybe it's because Anakin fans have spent YEARS playing whack a mole with nearly every other character in Star Wars, especially the Jedi, just to find a way to make everything that happens NOT Anakin's fault.

Maybe it's it's because Star Wars fans IN GENERAL have spent YEARS deciding that the Prequels were all about the Jedi and the Jedi's failure and how that doomed them, Anakin, and the galaxy, instead of recognizing that it was about ANAKIN and ANAKIN'S FAILURE.

Maybe because Anakin's failures, Anakin's culpability, and Anakin's RESPONSIBILITY have been buried for years and years and years and gotten thrown onto nearly every other character from the Prequels BUT Anakin (not exclusively but primarily the Jedi like Mace, Yoda, Obi-Wan, Ki-Adi-Mundi, the Council, etc).

Maybe it's because some people are just getting super fucking TIRED of pretending like it's not Anakin's fault. Maybe it's because we're super tired of pretending like he's not the main character whose flaws and choices are literally the entire story. Maybe it's because we're tired of the focus always being on how everyone else failed Anakin and never on how Anakin failed everyone else. Maybe it's because we're tired of how Anakin's flaws often get shoved under a rug in favor of focusing on his victimhood and how sad and tragic his story is rather than looking at him as the CAUTIONARY TALE that he actually is.

Maybe we're tired of the boring ass story that his fans keep trying to tell that has nothing to do with looking at how a good man's fear consumed him and turned him into the villain of the story. Maybe some of us want to actually TALK about that story a little more and it involves focusing on how Anakin fucked up and is responsible for ALL the consequences of his choices and how everything bad that happens is a direct result of Anakin being selfish and greedy and that's the POINT.

I don’t hate the idea of Gwayne Hightower being gay, but I really dislike it. To be entirely clear upfront, this isn’t coming from a place of homophobia - I’m a bisexual woman with a solid group of queer friends, including a gay best friend who actually agrees with me on this exact take. I’ve thought about this specific trope in other fandoms, and I just think the writers made a bad call here.

First off, there’s pretty much a universal agreement across the fandom that Gwayne is one of the very few men in House of the Dragon and honestly, the broader ASOIAF universe who actually treats women with basic respect and behaves like a decent human being. By turning around and writing him as gay, it almost feels like falling into that stereotypical trap where a man can only be kind, gentle, and respectful toward women if he has zero romantic or sexual interest in them. It subtly reinforces this weird narrative that straight (or women-attracted) men in Westeros are inherently toxic, and that respect from a man only comes with a lack of attraction.

Second, I’m genuinely dreading what this is going to do to the online fandom culture. We all know how toxic certain spaces can get and this decision feels like it's going to awaken a very annoying corner of the internet with new reasons to be misogynistic. It won't be long before people start gatekeeping him with comments like, "He’s for the men only now," or "Women need to stop thirsting over him." It’s going to lead to endless discourse and fandom policing over whether women are even "allowed" to make edits, write fanfiction, or crush on him anymore.

And at the risk of sounding like "that friend that's too woke", it honestly feels misogynistic on a smaller level. Why is it that whenever the writers manage to create a likable, non-threatening, respectful male character, he gets removed from the table for women entirely? It feels like a slap in the face to female fans who just wanted one good guy who is actually attracted to women. We deserve to have decent male characters who like women too, even if it’s just in a fictional fantasy setting.

If the writers were determined to give him queer representation, making him bisexual would have made so much more sense. It would have preserved his appeal, fit the world naturally, and avoided handing toxic fans a weapon to police women, something that women in this fandom already have to deal with plenty enough. At the end of the day, it just feels like a lazy choice to make Ormund seem worse and make Gwayne a sterotype.

That might just be me though and I'm more than happy to have this conversation with people in a HEALTHY and NONARGUMENTIVE enviroment.
