Usually, you'll find moshang fics where Sqh is completely oblivious to Mbj's intentions and its (partly) because he's been trying to court sqh the demonic way, right?

I'm switching things up a little.

• Both are still pining hopelessly, of course. But! Sqh goes "fuck it, we ball. If I die I die" about his feelings and starts trying to date the FUCK out of Mbj.

• I'm talking taking him out to eat, going on outings, giving him flowers, gifts, doing things to make mbj's life easier, giving little good morning notes, maybe some holidays n stuff... lowkey realizing they've been doing couple things for a WHILE so hes having to get a bit creative here to show off okay?

• Lmao he could even try the whole "meeting the family" further down the line and just. Grimacing at literally ALL sides of that fiasco.

• Sqh starts this whole thing off with the thought: "what's the worse he can do? Kill me? I'll probably be well on my way to perishing if he rejects me anyways, he'll be doing a mercy kill at that point."

• Meanwhile, Mbj Has Not Realized wtf has been going on. Like, he keeps accepting everything (because ofc thats his due as king, if nothing else) so Sqh figures he's humoring him and letting him try to woo him properly. Sqh is ecstatic. Mbj thinks sqh has taken on his aid role with far more enthusiasm than usual.

• The main problem, I fear, is that Sqh has been spoiling Mbj lmao

• Like, my guy has gone above and beyond for Mbj, so when he steps up his game to court him, Mbj naturally thinks he just freaking promoted himself or something lmao.

• This goes on for years. Dear lord.

• Anyways, Sqh thinks they've been in a committed romantic relationship for years and is in the process of preparing a proposal, and Mbj is there, trying very hard to think of a way to woo his advisor and start courting him. (All attempts so far have been met with an exasperated [read:fond] sigh, that while don't outright reject him, show no other reaction [sqh thinks these are bouts of romantic moods, and it just spurrs him to get things ready for a proposal sooner. Clearly, his king wants him to put a ring on him].

Okay even better, Huan Hua doses Shen Yuan with a truth potion for the trial but the truth potion forces the victim to tell the actual objective truths of the universe, no matter what the personally believe to be true. They ask him who perpetrated Shen Qingqiu’s various crimes, and every time Shen Yuan just points to Shang Qinghua as the perpetrator.

Liushen angst o’clock, what if Binghe accidentally killed Liu Qingge during those 5 years? He didn’t mean two, Xin Mo just— He couldn’t—

He brings Liu Qingge’s body to the foot of Cang Qiong personally. Suffice to say, Liu Mingyan is no longer a Bingqiu stan.

Liu Qingge, in his dying moments, wishes only that he be reunited with Shen Qingqiu. It would have been really convenient if he were attached to a mushroom body, but no. He is transported to the clearing where the mushroom bodies grow. He can look through the soil and see a familiar face reforming. Refusing to pass on and needing a way to protect the mushroom body, Liu Qingge possesses a passing spirit tiger. It’s powerful— not as much as he once was, but enough to scare off predators…. And Shang Qinghua? He lays overtop the soil where Shen Qingqiu’s spirit resides, keeping it warm and clean and tended. He carries water in his mouth from a stream to the soil every day.

When Shen Qingqiu emerges, it is a glorious day. Liu Qingge can’t help licking off his face and digging him out. Shen Qingqiu is scared at first, but he realizes Liu Qingge is friendly quickly.

“Aren’t you the cutest tiger? Were you taking care of me?”

Liu Qingge nods, Yes, yes, I’ve waited here every day for you, I missed you, I love you! He rubs against Shen Qingqiu and licks him until all his skin is pink. We can go back to the sect now, now no one will be sad!

But Shen Qingqiu doesn’t want to go back to the sect. No matter how many times Liu Qingge tries to push him in the right direction, he refuses. “Sorry tiger, but I need to get as far away from the Jianghu as I can. You’re welcome to come if you want! I expect it will be very lonely for a little while…”

Liu Qingge cannot say But we need you back! Your students miss you, the sect misses you! I need to see Mingyan again… He cannot say any of this, because he is a tiger. And as Shen Qingqiu walks away, Liu Qingge doesn’t know if he can follow.

I’m telling this story again b/c fuck it but anyways I was playing D&D and one of my friends went “brown bear brown bear what do you see” and on cue three of us turn to him and like, death metal screech “ALLLL”.

The dude goes completely pale faced. I saw true horror in his eyes.

When they settle down in the theater, Shen Yuan does feel a little bad roping his friend into a scary movie without telling him what it was first, so before the movie even starts, he says Liu Qingge is welcome to hold his hand if he gets scared. Liu Qingge takes it immediately and holds it the entire movie. Shen Yuan feels awful! Even though Liu Qingge doesn’t show it on his face, he must have been terrified! That’s it, Liu Qingge is coming over to his place to have a blanket fort Ghibli-thon to make up for it! Although for some reason Liu Qingge still holds his hand? And lays his head on Shen Yuan’s lap? And curls up against Shen Yuan’s side until they fall asleep holding each other?

…. Liu Qingge must have been very unsettled to need this much affection to feel better. AURGHH, Shen Yuan is an awful friend!
