I got a spinning fiber advent calendar again this year! It's from my usual fiber place (das-wollschaf.de) and they only tell you what's in it the day after, which makes for a fun guessing game.
Here's the stuff thus far:
1: Alpaca! I'm currently spinning it on a supported spindle, so this is only half of what was in the bag. Very soft, long staple length, nice fiber prep, amazing color. I don't think a Russian spindle specifically was the most efficient way to spin something relatively long-stapled, but I'm having a good time with it, which I usually don't with Alpaca, so I'll take it.
My original guess: Alpaca or Baby Alpaca.
2: Tencel: I mean, it's Rayon. It's fancy Rayon, but it's Rayon. I don't mind it and other reconstructed cellulose derivatives (especially because Tencel is the less environmental icky one and this one's also not labeled as ~bamboo~ or anything that makes you think it's a "real" plant fiber), but it's kinda ass to spin on its own and never really what I want out of a Natural-Colored Fiber Advent Calendar.
Original guess: Rayon (any)
3: Cormo. We'll have to see how it spins up, but holy shit?? This is the nicest wool fiber I have ever touched??? Unless it's an unexpectedly miserable spinning experience (and going by what I've read, it shouldn't be), I'm gonna get more of this stuff ASAP. Very neat!!
Original guess: Superfine merino....? (ngl this one confused me)
4: Polwarth/Linen. Waste of a perfectly nice Polwarth top, if you ask me. I do like the rustic look of it, but there's no good application for this, and it actively makes the yarn less nice to touch. If you disagree, please try to convince me. I'd love to not hate this.
Original guess: BFL/Linen
5: Baby camel/Merino: Now, this? This is where it's at. I was hoping they'd include some baby camel, didn't expect to get it so early though. This will be a great practice run because either this or one of the camel/wool/silk mixes has been WAY up on my wishlist for a very long time.
Original guess: doesn't count, I've gotten a sample of this before.
6: ???????: No official data for this one yet, and it's weird. It sure feels and looks like silk, doesn't feel like any of the rayon flavors I've gotten before, but silk is usually the kind of stuff they save for December 24th. Though, uh. Last year's edition had Merino/Cashmere on the 6th (it's St. Nick's Day, which is a big deal in Germany!), so maybe they did decide to be nice.
Guess: I'm gonna say silk. Maybe Tussah and not Mulberry, though? Could also be Casein in theory, I think; never handled that one in person. Not a fiber type I know a lot about, in any case.
