happy stimming
This is one of my favorite comics of all time.
Autistic stimming needs this, more representation of stimming a positive, pure, happy thing.
!!!
autism is extremely misunderstood — there are many successful autistic people who are brilliant and thriving, but their autism is ignored and erased. so, here’s something autistic people can use for positivity, and non-autistic people can use as a tool for understanding autism better
here’s a list of some famous autistic people:
dan aykroyd
satoshi tajiri (creator of pokemon)
dan harmon (creator of the show community)
adam young (owl city)
vincent d’onofrio
susan boyle
daryl hannah
temple grandin
hikari ōe (composer)
courtney love
stanley kubrick
and here are some famous historical people from before autism was studied, who are theorized to be autistic/have been posthumously diagnosed as autistic through their writings and the writings of others about them:
albert einstein
mozart
isaac newton
charles darwin
emily dickinson
nikola tesla
abraham lincoln
tom wiggins (most famous piano player of the 1800s and a blind former slave)
and here’s a list of some canonical autistic characters (autism is mentioned in the story and/or the writer or actor has confirmed that the character is autistic) that aren’t harmful or inaccurate portrayals:
abed nadir (community) — said repeatedly on the show and by the show’s creator dan harmon, who is also autistic
spencer reid (criminal minds) — said repeatedly in interviews by the actor and hinted at on the show later on
temperance brennan (bones) — said in interviews by the actress and the character was written to be autistic
rich purnell (the martian) — said by the author of the book
sonya cross (the bridge) — said repeatedly in interviews by the actress, and the show’s producers hired an autism expert (an autistic person) to help create this character
rebecca blithely (strange empire) — said repeatedly in interviews by the show’s creator; written to be autistic but takes place before autism was studied/named
alternate universe!astrid (fringe) — said in interviews by the actress
lisbeth salander (the millenium trilogy) — mentioned in the book
special mention: mike warren (graceland) — said on the show that he was diagnosed with ADHD as a child (autism is often misdiagnosed as ADHD and the two are very often comorbid), and he’s referred to as a “savant”
special mention: wilson fisk (daredevil) and robert goren (law and order criminal intent) — both played by autistic actor vincent d’onofrio and have autistic traits
plus here’s a list of autistic characters, but i have no idea if they’re good/accurate portrayals or not
(non-autistic people are welcomed and encouraged to reblog)

Reblog and the universe will grant you the spoons you need to do that thing you’ve been meaning to do
Just an experiment. Reblog if you actually give a fuck about male victims of domestic violence and rape.
Abuse has no gender
Tell your kids things
Tell them a certain disease runs in the family
Tell them alcoholism runs in the family and who and why
Tell them mental illness runs in the family and who and what and why
Tell them drug addiction runs in the family
Don’t let your kids grow up blind. Face issues blind. Don’t let them grow up thinking they are the only ones.
Very important

It’s pretty fucked up how it’s up to abled people to decide how sick we are and how much help we deserve, despite never having the experience of living with a disability.
Exactly this
So Makeup Revolution recently released a line of flexible handle makeup brushes and from what I’ve seen on their social media these brushes were made for people with limited mobility in their hands!
The best part being these brushes are fairly cheap at £30 for the full set and completely cruelty free!
Also as far as I am aware Makeup Revolution are available worldwide!
And for the “die hard mur fans’ who don’t get why this is a big deal or think that this is just some new out there trend to gain money, just remember that not everything on the market has to cater to you.
This is a BIG step forward for those of us who have disabilities that affect our hands and motor abilities.
Hopefully this will urge more companies to make more accessibility tools for us.
Great, great news.
Ahhhhh!!!
Does anyone know if they, like, constantly flex or are “poseable?”
Hi. They’re poseable. And keep their shape pretty well :)
[ID: Five double-sided makeup brushes of various sizes and styles. Their handles are black and appear to be bendable. /end ID]
able-bodied people don’t seem to realise the nuances of disability, they look at it as such a black and white issue when it’s really not. like, i don’t need a wheelchair in the sense that i can’t physically use my legs and i don’t need a walking stick in the sense that i would fall over without one. but i do need a wheelchair in the sense that it could make the difference between my being bed-bound for a day and being bed-bound for a week and i do need a walking stick in the sense that using one today might enable me to do more tomorrow. disability and chronic illness aren’t black and white; using things out of necessity can mean a lot of different things for a lot of different people.
you: are you okay?
me: *looks off into the distance*
me: in theory.
Having Ehlers Danlos Syndrome sometimes feels about the equivalent of being composed of jello and wet spaghetti. Nothing stays where its supposed to. Literally every single cell in the body is floppy, so fingers are definitely an issue for many of us. I can almost guarantee that for the majority of us, writing is not only slow and painful but nearly impossible at times. FIne motor skills? What even are those? An EDSer surely doesn’t have any of those. Even typing which is far easier than writing, is painful and daunting at times. But last year I joined the population of shiny zebras by getting fitted for a set of Silver Rings Splints and they are beyond magical.
For those of you who have not heard of The Silver Ring Splint Company, they are a company that custom makes finger splints that look like elegant pieces of jewelry. Don’t believe me? Well I can’t even tell you how many compliments I’ve received for them. Nobody even suspects that they might possibly be medical. But more importantly, they work amazing! I still have hand pain and finger dislocations when performing fine motor skills and writing is definitely not something I look forward to but I have saved myself thousands of painful dislocations, I can open doors easier, type faster, write longer and hold objects in my hands without looking like an alien from a sic-fi movie. With the rings on my fingers actually look like fingers rather than tentacles!
The company is also family owned and the people are so sweet and helpful!
If you are having trouble with hand pain, clumsiness and dislocations please check out this amazing company!

I’m literally crying right now. I will be able to use my hands!!! As it stands I can’t do dishes, hold things, write, hold books, type, without pain or dislocation. Oh my gosh. This is a miracle.
@peaceypanic
those are gorgeous and that is amazing how well they’re working! signal boost!
I love these things. I use one for my thumb because due to arthritis I have very little strength/support in the joint and therefore often can’t do anything. My splint makes it possible for me to do my job, do the shit i need to do and not have as bad of pain.
these are so cool
omg the first ehlers danlos post I’ve seen, this makes me happy!
We love Siris Ring Splints (silverringsplints.com)! But we know not everyone has the same price points or style so we have a whole page of splints (and braces too) oer on PrettySick Supply so you can shop your own style and cost! And a lot of the folks we’ve found are others with EDS and hypermobility issues who support themselves by selling the splints they make!
So you can support your fingers, and your community… all at the same time!
