I really hate doing these things. I hate having to beg for money just to survive and not drag my sister down with me. i feel like such a burden to her and my whole family, but I have no where else to turn. My landlords are kicking my sister and I out of the house we are currently renting. We have family that is allowing us to stay with them once we are out thankfully, but I still owe this months rent and next months portion of rent. I am currently working 10-15 hours a week at my work place due to medical reasons ( I suffer from seizures) despite begging for more hours or asking to pick up any shifts I can. I have also been searching for a second job for up to 6 months now, but time after time I keep getting the interviews, but no jobs. Iām panicking and donāt know what to do. I can barely cover my part of rent if I save up all of my paychecks in a month, let alone pay other bills and pay for gas to get to work. Arinaitwe Gerald, an Batwa indigenous organizer I talk to regularly who lives in southwestern Uganda, is currently having trouble providing for orphaned children he and his wife have taken in in addition to their own children after their mother passed away a bit over a month ago.
One of the children, a 12 year old girl named Immaculate, is in serious pain due to having a cyst caused by goiter. She had been recommended for surgery all the way back in October, but because $700 is nowhere near an amount her late mother or Gerald and his wife can afford, she has still not gotten the treatment she needs and they are even having difficulty getting the $85 needed for an injection that would potentially help decrease the pain and size of the cyst temporarily.
Please spread this fundraiser and donate if possible! Immaculate and her siblings, as well as the Batwa people at large need all the help they can get, and no 12 year old should have to go through all that she is currently dealing with.
As a nursing student, I can attest to the amount of bullying and horrible behavior Iāve seen from fellow nursing students. One of the students in my schoolās nursing program got kicked out because she was bullying her own patientā¦
My mom is also a nurse and she has both witnessed AND personally experienced bullying from her fellow nurses. My dad is a nurse as well and has had his own coworkers try to sabatoge him.
This is called ālateral/horizontal violenceā and itās sadly prevalent in the Nursing profession.
it goes as deep as the billing offices for hospitals too. i cant tell yall how much highschool drama my mom has had to deal with in 20 years of billing.
I feel like talking about nurses bullying each other is missing the entire fucking point of this tweet.
āOne of the students in my schoolās nursing program got kicked out because she was bullying her own patient.ā Yeah, thatās the fucking issue right there. Itās not that they backstab each other, itās that they abuse the patients and they do it constantly. It is not a rare occurrence and rarely are they even reprimanded for it let alone kicked out of a program.
Do you know how viscerally upsetting it is to have been subjected to years and years of ableist abuse from someone just to hear that theyāre entering patient care? Do you know what itās like to have a high school bully walk into your hospital room with a big fake smile on her face? I do.
My cousin used to āplayā with me when she was 16 and I was newly diagnosed with POTS at 11 years old by triggering fainting episodes and then laughing about it. She is an RN now and at every holiday she shit talks her patients, often outright breaking HIPPA to do it. She calls them liars and exaggerators. She did it every year until we got disowned. Iām sure she still does. I used to have to leave early because I knew that if I had to endure one more second of it and I would rip her throat out.
The peers that mocked and abused me daily, calling me a faker and a liar for having an invisible disability, going into nursing is way more upsetting to me as a potential patient than them being catty with each other. Itās way more scary to me to have someone who never believed that I was ill in charge of my care than thinking about them fighting over a promotion does.
Bullies who go into nursing abuse patients the same way bullies who become cops abuse civilians. Thatās the real issue. Itās not horizontal aggression, itās medical abuse.
Another case where too many people are attracted to the job in the first place at least partly because it does give them power over very vulnerable people. Under the guise of āhelpingā, which helps them get away with abusive behavior more easily.
And of course that type is not suddenly going to turn into nice people dealing with colleagues. Maybe especially the other staff who are not down with mistreating patients. Or anyone else who tries to make complaints.
(Very relevant examples, which did get some attention here several years back: Systemic medical discrimation and abuse, pt. 1: Public scandals. Including at our local hospital šµ)
Obviously not everyone in the field is behaving that way. Itās dangerous for everyone involved to act like itās not happening, however. Or to act like these are rare isolated incidents, rather than part of some big systemic problems.
Black Trans Man Arrested, Immediate Bail Support Needed.

Earlier today, Dean, a Black Trans masculine person was arrested in Atlanta, Georgia, after a routine traffic stop. After being stopped, he was questioned repeatedly about the validity of his driverās license. The officer believed that Dean was deceiving him, lying about his identity. Dean was taken to the detention center.
This happens often to Trans people who are unable to change the gender marker/name on their license. Because of the officerās transphobia, he assumed Dean was lying.
Some of you maybe familiar with Dean, an Atlanta -based community organizer and activist. He is currently being detained at the Atlanta City Detention Center. He has been placed with the āfemaleā population, where he will be kept until his community, family, and friends raise bail.
Bail is currently set at $315. We know that itās a lot to ask. But on behalf of our friend, weāre asking that each person, who read this, donate just .99 or $1. A little can go a long way.
