Okay, I've finally finished the hockey show, and I think it's kind of cute that Shane thinks they've taken the next step in their relationship and Ilya took All The Steps At Once and is now locked in for all time. Shane is still like "would you maybe come with me to see my parents?" and "are we saying boyfriend now, is that okay?" Meanwhile, Ilya Rozanov is over here like, I told you about my mother and you saw me cry during sex. Your family is my family. We're dying together. I'll pay for the tomb. There are no more questions.
i think one of the reasons that heated rivalry has been so successful is because everyone involved with it is so fucking proud of what they created. like there’s zero embarrassment or shame about how sexual it is or how queer it is and it’s just such a breath of fresh air
Grabbing this from the tags bc YES. 🙌
“I think I know how the staff likes to be treated after all these years” hits so hard. ilya has been secretly paying close attention to shane for seven years. what makes him tick, what he loves in bed, his hockey skills, that he loves ginger ale and has a cottage where he does yoga and his parents’ names are yuna and david and david reads the new yorker. he has been gathering up all of these pieces of shane and holding them inside of him. before this, we only ever get pieces of it (is the ginger ale cold enough?). but in this episode we finally get to see him own up to that and put his knowledge of shane on full display. I know what you like in bed, shane, I know that you like to be pinned down and fucked hard and teased. I know you like to be bad. I know that you do your yoga over there and I know how to refocus you when you’re panicking. I could map your freckles by heart. you have a weak backhand. I love you.
so important to me that after years of short, clandestine hookups, hollanov spent one (1) week of uninterrupted time together and were both immediately like yeah, no, we need to figure out a way to have this forever
HEATED RIVALRY | From Page to Screen: Season 1, Episode 5 (1/2)
shane: since our rookie season
ilya: i didn’t set up an ad campaign with the two of us together, call you pretty, tease you in the shower, and then almost get caught by your mom in the elevator for you to get our anniversary wrong. since summer before, shane

We are living in their world
A pretty convincing one.
Shane is the only one who sees through Ilya’s brash, asshole public persona and sees the marshmallow centre beneath.
Even though other people also observe Ilya being kind to children, courteous to wait staff, polite to nurses, putting money in trust for his abusive brother’s little girl. They still look at Ilya and think he’s an asshole. Despite all the evidence to the contrary that they’ve seen with their own eyes.
Yeah, Svetlana knows Ilya’s not an asshole. But she’s a stoic Russian herself. She’s not going to contradict other people’s impressions of Ilya. Especially because they’ve been besties since they were children. She knows damn well the brash asshole persona is a wall Ilya constructed to keep people from hurting him.
He wants to intimidate, so people will be too afraid of him to dare try and hurt him. And he succeeds with everyone except Shane. Svetlana won’t tell on him. She likely watched in their childhood and teen years, as Ilya first built those walls.
I wonder if the walls started going up in a big way when he was 12. After his mother died by suicide and his dad covered it up, insisted Irina’s death was an accident.
Hey so do you mind if I nervously self-soothe by sticking my fingers in your sleeve while we talk to this room full of people?
Ilya's reaction to seeing Shane again
I’m obsessed with the way Ilya prompts Shane to touch him and grab on to him as he’s panicking. Grounding him. It’s so soft and gentle.
LNC: SHANE HOLLANDER (IN.SP) | Ilya [x]
heated rivalry really said queer love is art, queer sex is art, queer joy is art, there’s no reason why every story about queer people needs to be trauma porn in order for it to be good, we can have exquisite writing and deeply intentional cinematography and unbelievable fucking acting performances without having our characters die or break up or fall apart in some broken and dramatic way that implies queer people are cursed to suffer forever. maybe we can make art that’s about more than just our trauma, and maybe there’s more power in a happy ending, and maybe the point of art is to remind you of why you’re alive. fuck
Who? Hey, Shane, you really need to keep your eyes open, OK?
AND IF I SAID THIS IS THE EXACT REASON WHY IM LOWKEY OKAY WITH THEM EXCLUDING THE INFAMOUS “ILYA THEY CAN SEE US” LINE !!!!!!!!
