if you want to actually start to end homelessness, you need to give homeless people unconditional homes, including when we use them to do drugs or sit around drinking. either housing is unconditional or it isn’t

someone sitting at home alone, an active alcoholic, squandering your charity, drinking all day is better situation than a street homeless alcoholic. someone using drugs in your charity house is better than them doing the same w no shelter

most of you would not like most street homeless people, I definitely don’t and didn’t when I was street homeless. for every one person who uses unconditional shelter to turn themselves around, someone else will do jack shit and very slowly, if ever, work through the issues that made them homeless, will maybe never be able to live independently. still better than street homelessness, still worth doing. ultimately either you believe that shelter should be universal or you don’t

I understand why some people think Kara killing Krem at the end invalidated what she spent the whole movie telling Ruthye—but hear me out

Krem didn't deserve to live. He was a pedophile, a murderer, and a sex trafficker

Kara Zor-El knew that he shouldn't be allowed to live bc he'd just keep doing what he was doing

But does her murdering him in place of Ruthye invalidate her teaching Ruthye "murder is wrong"?

Well, no bc i dont rlly think the message was "murder is wrong"

It was "dont let your grief and rage consume you"

If Ruthye had murdered Krem in her grief and anger it would've consumed her. Kara didnt want her to live with that. She sacrificed a part of herself to kill Krem, so Ruthye wouldn't have to be the one who did it

Yes, Krem was a piece of shit who deserved to die

But that doesn't mean the 13 yr old girl whose entirely family was murdered should've been the one to kill him. Lets not put that on her to do. She shouldn't have to. Kara knew that, its why she did it instead

severitus, but Harry’s a serious flight risk

He’s pretty used to making himself scarce whenever things with the dursleys turn south. The faster he can get out of the house, the better. It’s not uncommon for him to sleep at the park or wander around all night to give Vernon time to cool off.

Sometimes, when he’s really desperate, he tries to make it further, but the police always pick him up and bring him right back, making Vernon angrier than he was in the first place.

So the first time Harry messes up at Spinners End, he knows he has to book it out of there. He doesn’t know the area, so eventually he gets lost in Cokeworth. Snape finds him, of course, and drags him home with his lips pressed together so hard that they’re white.

“Stay. There,” he spits out as he deposits Harry in his room for the night.

This incident repeats several times over the following weeks, much to Snape’s fury. It’s disrespectful, it’s disobedient. It’s going to give Snape a heart attack.

But at the same time, he’s starting to realize that there’s more to Harry, and to Harry’s situation than he ever realized.

Harry, too, begins to understand that Snape isn’t the man his uncle is. And Snape hasn’t raised his voice at him in days. He has nothing to fear.

It makes him itchy.

So he leaves through the front door while Snape is brewing, walks to town, and finds a cab willing to drive a kid unaccompanied. Asks the driver to take him to Surrey.

It’s not until he’s standing in front of Number 4, chest heaving, that it occurs to Harry where he is. Why is he here? To drop the other shoe himself? To cut the tension, stop the waiting? Maybe he just needed to run, and see if Snape cared enough to hunt him down again.

Fuck. He can’t keep doing this. Eventually Snape will get sick of him and he’ll lose the best home he ever had. The thought jolts him and he feels his hands go burningly numb with adrenaline.

He doesn’t want to be here at all. He wants to be at Spinners End with Snape.

A sharp pop behind Harry startles him, and he whips around, nearly falling off the porch.

It’s Snape. His face is paper-white, and for the first time, Harry recognizes it not as anger, but as fear. He sees Snape take in the house and the yard, the bars on the second story window around the side.

Harry tries to stuff his hands in his pockets to hide how violently they’re shaking, but realizes that his shorts don’t have any.

Snape stalks up to him, hands already reaching to smooth over Harry’s hair, his shoulders, his arms, looking frantically for injuries. Harry lets him.

“You can’t— you can’t just disappear like that! Merlin, Harry, you could be kidnapped, or lost, or hurt—“

Harry doesn’t realize he’s crying until the salt touches his lips. When did he start crying?

“I’m sorry,” he says through numb lips. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry—“

Snape does this funny thing. He wraps his arms around Harry and squeezes.

It knocks the wind right out of Harry’s lungs. He stands there, stiff as a board, thrums of emotion nearly demolishing him. Why is Snape… Maybe it’s to stop him from shaking so much.

“Don’t get rid of me,” Harry says. “I wasn’t— Don’t make me go.”

Snape squeezes even tighter, if possible. Harry tries to let some of the tension seep out of his shoulders, and only half succeeds.

“You foolish boy,” Snape says. “Of course I’m not getting rid of you. You’re stuck with me.”

“Okay,” Harry says, teeth chattering. “Okay.”

They apparate home.

i like the idea of a severitus scenario where snape and harry build this weirdly unconventional bond in fourth year solely because of what happened to harry socially during that school year

like almost the entire school teamed up to bully harry due to his entrance into the tournament..( making whole ass badges is insanely petty and over the top)

he basically ends up with the whole school targeting him, even his best friend

so he goes into his shell and starts trying to find ways to avoid being around his classmates as much as possible, to the point of purposely getting detention with snape sense he’d likely to be found there + they’re unfathomly long bc snape can b a bit of an ass

snape by chance witnesses harry getting bullied by gryffindoors of all people and pulls him aside after they run off

obviously harry’s reluctant to talk to snape about what’s going on and snapes going through the whole “but he’s a POTTER” —> “he’s his own person and he clearly needs support that no one in his circle has been able to provide for him and so i will do so…begrudgingly.” mindset change..

snape begins assigning him even more detentions but instead of setting him to cauldron cleaning and the likes he ends up teaching him brewing and slowly getting harry to come out of his shell

they end up building a werid alliance

snape finds him getting bullied again and is able to intervene, everyone hates him even more, severitus angst argument (“i’m trying to help you” “you’re making it worse!”)

obvious reconcile they get really close and harry eventually (and accidentally) lets it slip he’s been at the dursleys. he starts off with talking about how he was made fun of or isolated by the other kids and when he off handedly mentions the appearance difference between himself and dudley everything goes crazy

snape, who was already worried about harry turns full maternal mode, goes down the usual severitus adoption plot line where he gives up his position as spy.

he also strikes back at the bullies with extreme force via point taking (i’m talking a lot) Id say detentions too but they’re clearly reserved already aren’t they…

i really like the idea of snape making it public he’s begun to enjoy harry’s presence (a trope really well written by a fanfic someone reccomended to me…yk who you are…) He does this because harry obviously needed at least one person on his side and it ended up stunting most of the bullying

everyone goes mental obviously

horrible tormenting attempt from either the gryffs or slitherins idk pick ur poison and cut to major severitus angst with snape having a fucking conniption

goes from there….now why the hell did i brainstorm a whole fucking fanfiction plot….i guess i’ll start writing this too once i have the time (can summer break come like rn pls🩷)
