It's been a long time, with some new peeps, so here ya go. :)

Note: By canon, I mean canon following T7S (7 or 8, whatever). Not just T9S canon.

Crazy how Laurie was a whole ass adult having beef with a teenager.

I wasn't able to finish that 90s show but my thoughts so far were:

Ozzie, Leia, and Jay are my favorites.

Red and Kitty are very ooc. (Kitty drugging Bob and Red saying he doesn't want the government watching them on the computer) they leaned more towards Kitty's personality in the later seasons when she got menopause.

Donna calling Kitty Mrs. F threw me off.

I really wonder how Eric and Donna raised Leia that made her so sheltered.

Wish there was some sort of tension or conflict in the group.

It seems like most of the characters parallel the og characters, Leia is Eric, Nate is Kelso, Nikki is Jackie, Gwen is Donna/Hyde, Ozzie is Fez. Jay is an outlier and more similar to Randy more than anyone else.

I did enjoy it more than I thought though, it's obviously not t7s and is it's own thing but still enjoyable.

Hope I can finish it soon.

Answer (Possibly) Found to Long-Time Zennie Question

Over the years, I been asked many times why Jackie trusts Hyde, particularly in "Kiss of Death" (2x20) when she goes to him for comfort over Donna and Eric. Nothing in the text (the show suggests) a reason why. He's not helpful to her in "Ski Trip" (1x13). Rather, he essentially tries to get rid of her so he can be alone with Donna.

Prissy (aka @that70sshowgoldencouple ) and I talked in the phone today (we've been friends for fifteen years) to compare my Table Draft of the T7S pilot to her earlier Revised First Draft of the pilot (hers was completed a month before mine). We had a lot of fun, and now onto our discovery.

In the TD, Hyde explains that he's taken Fez under his wing to teach him "[Americans' strange ways." This line isn't in the RFD. Regardless, Jackie learns Fez is a foreign exchange student and says in both drafts, "What did we trade for him?" (Exact wording is from the TD.) Below, you'll find what follows in the TD.

What Jackie's response, That is so like you," refers to is ambiguous. Does she mean Hyde's insult or the fact he's helping Fez and believes"no one should be without friends"?

The RFD removes this ambiguity. Below, you'll find the earlier version of what follows Jackie's question, "What did we trade [Fez] for?"

Both the RFD and TD of the pilot reveal that Hyde's compassionate heart and desire to help the vulnerable was an original part of his core characterization. On the show, these aspects of him become part and parcel of his core starting in "Prom Night" (1x19).

Further, the RFD and TD reveal that Jackie's been around Hyde long enough to recognize that helping people is part of his nature.

Despite that the show doesn't depict Hyde as such until "Prom Night," so it's not technically in the text, Hyde's initial characterization and Jackie's knowledge of it may well have left an imprint on the show's creators and original showrunners.

Jackie having witnessed Hyde's compassion toward others who need it would create an implicit trust in him when she needs help and support.

This post's theory is a viable explanation to the question, "Why does she always [go to Hyde]?" It also -- gratifyingly, I must admit -- matches my headcanon. Maybe it's my author instinct. Regardless, the TD and RFD depict Hyde with his compassion heart intact.

Out of all the characters, which is the easiest one for you to write, and why? 🤓 Not that writing is easy, hope you know what I mean by the question. Thanks!

I get what you mean!

I think the last time I received a similar question I said Jackie was the easiest character I found to write -- or maybe it was that I enjoyed writing her POV the most? -- in any case, my (possibly unhelpful) answer is this: it depends!

A lot of it depends on the context of the chapter I'm drafting and what mood I'm in. At this point I would say that, having written quite a lot of Hyde and Jackie's alternating POVs, I find them both equally easy depending on what I'm writing about. I'll have days (like most people, I'm sure) where my motivation is low no matter who I'm writing for and I'll only be able to cobble together a little bit, and then I'll have days where I somehow manage get out 5k+ words with relative ease, sometimes just the one POV and sometimes alternating between the both of them.

As for why? Much of it is that I simply enjoy writing for both of them. They both have character traits I find admirable and enjoy in fiction (e.g. 'tough exterior, soft interior'), but they both also have flaws that add interesting layers and qualities. In particular, both of them are really great examples of "good does not always mean nice". Jackie is so much more than a spoiled brat, but she's still mean and bossy on occasion. Hyde is so much more than a burnout delinquent, but he's still cynical and exhibits some internalized toxic masculinity from time to time.

Neither of them got the justice they deserved in the canon material, which is also motivating in different ways lol.

Jackie specifically is a fictional character that is very near and dear to my heart, because her confidence/ego was genuinely inspirational to me as a young teen. I remember watching That '70s Show when it was airing and seeing her proudly declare: "I choose me ... listen, if I could run across the beach into my own arms, I would!" Jackie and a couple other female characters around that time were instrumental in me re-evaluating my own self-esteem, and getting to a point in my life where I could say: "Actually I do love myself and I like how I look". Despite the fact that the writers almost certainly meant for her ego to come across as a net negative trait (or something to joke about), I admired that about her, as well as moments that balanced it with with her vulnerability -- because the ability to be vulnerable is very much admirable!

Who is the easiest to write? Eric, and then Jackie. I'm good at writing dorks and ramblers.

Who is the hardest to write? Hyde, because he's not a rambler. Then Fez, for obvious reasons.

Who is the most fun to write? Kelso, because he's such a foolish asshole.

Who is the most interesting to write? Laurie. I like digging through her head, and try to get how she ticks.

Who is the biggest chore to write? Fez. He's just an annoying character in general, so yeah.

My friend group was very similar to our favorite gang, so I tend to lean into that win I write.

Hyde by far is the easiest for me to write. For a few reasons.

First, I dated a Hyde. It was intense. It left a mark on my heart. A heart he broke. They are so similar and it was such a defining time in my life. To be fair I broke his heart as well. The love was too hot to do anything but burn us both to the ground.

My Hyde was sweet when no one was looking. He could be incredibly closed off like Hyde, had a lot of trauma, and so hated corporate crap, but he was fiercely loyal, protective, and loved hard. I think of him still.

Two, I have worked with so many kids with trauma at a young age and how it shapes them, it is easy for me to understand Hyde.

Third, he is the character in my opinion with the most depth, so there is so much to dig out.

2nd/3rd is Kelso. Which is once again because of guys who I was friends with or within my orbit. My best friend dated one guy that Kelso could have been modeled after. I kicked his ass once. I like to right older Kelso in hopes that he grew out of his douche bag days

2nd/3rd. Jackie. She also has depth and there are parts of her that I fundamentally relate to. Her brash personality. How she loves hard. Her loyalty that I think is often over looked. She belonged with Hyde. I will forever be pissed they ruined it. Besides I love Bad Boy and Rich Girl Trope.

4th Donna and Eric-They are so cliche that they bore me sometimes. They could have done more with Donna. I struggle with what she did to Jackie on the show.

Finally Fez. What a flat character who is annoying as hell and a punch line.

I am not including Red and Kitty in this list.

My top choice for which character is easiest to write is Eric, hands down. I like digging a bit deeper into his character, exploring his good traits as well as his bad ones.

My second choice would be Donna. I do like her, even if most of what I write calls out her actions as a character. If the writers had just handled her better, I might be able to be better at writing her.

My third choice would probably be Jackie. Similar to Eric, I like diving more into her character.

My fourth choice is Hyde. He's just so Zen that it's easy for me to write him.

My last choices are Kelso and Fez for obvious reasons.

I do not write Red and Kitty often enough for me to rank them.

This is hard cause some characters are easy to write depending on the situation, or difficult.

Surprisingly Kelso/Fez are the easiest to write being comedic relief and naive. So I feel like I can throw them in any situation. But if I was writing something more serious they'd be the hardest.

I have a lot of fun writing Jackie. Jackie had a great personality to work with and is easy to get the plot moving forward given her ambitious nature. She's easy for both comedy and drama.

Next would be Donna, she's a consistent character throughout the show. She can be goofy but is the most down to earth of the group. Not the mom friend but more of the older sister friend. She's mature, smart, and tomboyish. But I like to write her a bit more relaxed and vulnerable.

4th would be Eric. I love Eric and I've written his character the most which I think why I've played him here. Eric to me has a lot of good and bad traits to him but I have a hard time writing the bad. In the show I think his character has a lot of inconsistencies but I do like writing him as a sarcastic/anxious dork.

Last would be Hyde. He's such a cool character who's clever and witty I get really hung up on writing him. But when I do nail him down it is so satisfying.

I'm almost done with 3rd rock and I gotta say so far season 5 was the weakest imo and had a lot of ooc moments. [Spoilers]: like Dick marrying someone else just cause she's rich? And then Mary and Don kissing???? And I feel like they made Harry perverted when he was written as naive yet a gentlemen and got the attention of a lot of women. I'm on season 6 and Sally slapping Don really took me off guard. Now it feels like the characters are ooc for the sake of comedy.

Day 5: Whisper

Pairing: Eric Forman x Buddy Morgan

During summer vacation, it was easy to catch an early matinee. The movies weren't to Eric's tastes, but it beat being in the basement all day. The early pictures were usually old films, older than his parents.

Sometimes there were a few people sprinkled around. There was nothing else to do this early in Point Place.

"Did you know that Buster Keaton did his own stunts?" Whispered Buddy.

Eric took a sip from his slurpee, "No way?"

He nodded.

"How the hell did he do that?" Eric pointed.

"That part was a failed stunt. He was supposed to jump across to the other building but missed the jump. There was a net below but he still got injured."

"How do you know this much about movies and you're still popular?"

Buddy chuckled and shook his head, "I don't talk about these things to other people."

Eric still couldn't believe they got along perfectly. They were from two different worlds but wounded up together somehow.

Eric turned around debating on getting more popcorn but noticed the theater was completely empty this time.

He was say next to Buddy Morgan, in a dark secluded theater, with no one around. This was every girls dream and he was living in it by complete accident.

His palms started to sweat just thinking about it. He took a sip from his slurpee, the brain freeze hopefully freezing his thoughts.

Buddy turned around, "Oh hey we're alone we don't have to whisper any more."

He yawned exaggeratively and put his arm over Eric.

"Did that work on you?" Said Buddy.

Eric could only nod and stare at the movie screen. He relaxed his body and let his head rest on his shoulder.

Day 4: Shadow

"And that's the story of the lady of the lake." Kelso menacingly grinned, holding the flashlight to his face.

It was summer, so the gang went on their annual camping trip. Buddy was the newest addition and sat keenly on the floor. The camp fire, the stars, and the moon was their only source of light.

"So what'd you think?" Fez asked.

Buddy finished the last bite of his smore, "It was nice."

Kelso yelled, "Nice? She died man! In that lake! That's right there!" He pointed to his left.

"Kelso. You and Fez are the only ones who believe that story." Eric rolled his eyes.

A shadow briefly passed their tent in front of Eric.

"Then explain that!" Kelso pointed.

"Wouldn't the lady of the lake only be...at the lake?" Buddy asked.

"Oh yeah huh."

Eric added, "So it must've been either a bear or a murderer."

Fez gasped, "Or a bear murderer."

"Boo." Donna and Jackie said behind them.

Kelso jumped out of the log he was sitting on and fell on his back. The girls settled down and chuckled.

"Hey be careful, when I get scared I punch." He dusted himself off.

The shadow zoomed by again.

"Before you ask, no we're not scared." Stated Eric.

"I give up." Hyde emerged from his hiding spot and joined them.

"Hyde you weren't supposed to give it away. We were getting on to them."

Buddy said, "A shadow that looks like a dog made of fingers wasn't really getting us."

"Try a bird next time." Eric nodded.

"That was lame, I'm going to bed."

Everyone agreed and went to their respective tents. The girls had their own, fez and Kelso shared one, Hyde had his own, and Eric and Buddy shared one.

"Maybe one day we should at least pretend to be scared." Said Buddy zipping up his sleeping bag.

Eric responded "I think a good friend would do that...but it's funnier seeing him try."

"You're really not scared of anything, are you?" Buddy asked facing him.

He felt the heat rise to his face and closed his eyes.

"Well besides my father I don't think there's anything scarier than him."

"That's too bad, it'd be cute to see you scared."

He opened his eyes, "Oh I'm pretty chill in intense moments. Very stoned cold."

"So kissing me was pretty scary, huh?"

Eric turned around merely inches away from his face.

"Well I uh I wouldn't say scary but it was a surprise. You know, getting kissed from a guy. Who's...gay." he gulped.

"You're so cute." Buddy said, turning around to go to sleep.

Eric turned around as well his heart fluttering with mixed emotions.

"Ah!" Eric screamed. Crawling to the far corner of the tent.

"What, what happened?" Buddy got up and turned on his flashlight, illuminating a spider on the ground. He captured it with his hands and gently let it outside.

"So you're scared of bugs and kissing guys?" Laughed Buddy.

Eric wrapped himself up in his sleeping bag. "I'm going to bed."
