Therapy homework can be a beast ;)

My therapist told me that perfection has no finish line.

There's no magical moment where a perfectionist finally gets to stop trying so hard because now everything is perfect. The goalpost just keeps moving.

I've been teaching a course for adults recently, which is way outside my comfort zone. Not because I don't know how to teach (I teach young kids all day) but because I don't know how to be an expert at this yet.

Perfectionists apparently don't like to try to new things.

How can you do it perfectly if you're figuring it out?

Her challenge to me was to imagine what it would look like to try 15% less hard at making it perfect.

Not stop caring.

Just stop trying to control every variable.

She also warned me that it probably wouldn't feel good.

Apparently discomfort is data and not an emergency.

I would like to file an appeal.

The sequel curse 😜

Me: People loved the first fic! Surely they'll be excited for the sequel!

To be clear, I know readers don't owe authors anything and people have lives and fandoms move fast.

But the sequel author experience is basically standing on your porch holding a fresh pie and wondering where everyone went.

I can't believe we've lost Anthony Head. I grew up with Buffy, watching him as a complex father figure. I know I won't be alone in my grief of this wonderfully talented man.

Like okay. The weather is gorgeous. I got enough sleep. I'm in a good mood...interesting.

What's your angle?

Every time something goes right my brain starts acting like a medieval court advisor. "My liege, this abundance cannot be trusted. Surely a curse approaches."

Being a fanfic writer is such a bizarre experience.

You spend months writing a story that has completely taken over your brain. You pour your heart into it. You post the sequel you've been excited about for ages.

And then you refresh AO3 approximately 8,000 times.

I've gotten some genuinely lovely comments already. Comments that I keep rereading because they mean so much to me. Rationally, I know those comments are worth more than any statistic.

But also, if we're being honest, I saw the notification email earlier, got excited, and it turned out to be a bot comment. Which feels like a uniquely fanfic author emotional experience.

So now I'm sitting here in that weird space where I'm incredibly grateful, incredibly proud of what I wrote, and also convinced I may have simply released my beloved story into the vast AO3 wilderness and am watching it disappear over the horizon.

To everyone who reads, leaves kudos, comments, bookmarks, screams in the tags, or just quietly spends time with stories people worked hard on: you matter more than you probably realize :)

happy pride! remember that being a transgender is everything but fiction. there are so many real historical figures from every century about whose transgenderism we aren't even aware of

on this picture i drew Alexandr Andreevich Alexandrov - cavalry officer of the russian imperial army that participated in napoleonic wars. people persistently keep on misgendering mispronounsing deadnaming and calling him a crossdresser although alexandrov clearly stated that he didn't want to be called by his deadname and being treated like anything but a man. that's an interesting historical figure and i wanted to draw attention to his person. i can't tell everything about him in only one post so i recomend you to read about alexandrov by yourself
