hey y’all! i haven’t talked about it much publicly, but for all of january and a bit of december and february, i was knocked out with a truly gnarly sinus infection and the worst bout of burnout i’ve ever experienced.

between that and the store getting royally screwed over by multiple factors at the end of last year, things are pretty rough right now. i’ll go into this more some time later, but the TLDR is that the majority of the garments we were supposed to have in stock for the holiday season sales were so late they only got ready for sale in the past few weeks.

i know a lot of people are struggling right now everywhere and frankly with ICE still very active in my city it feels incredibly selfish to ask for help when i know others have it much worse, but i’m not really sure what else to do. we have a lot of bills due and thanks to receiving the bulk of our inventory four months late, we don’t have the money to pay them. but we have a lot of things in stock now and it would mean the absolute world if y’all would share this.

the clothing in my store is made with certified ethical labor and is designed by a queer, neurodivergent three person team. we carry sizes S-6X in some garments and XS-8X in others. we specialize in mid- and plus-size clothing and pride ourselves in doing extensive fit tests to make sure our clothes fit properly—that we consider and accomodate things many clothing retailers forget, like the curvature of a belly causing shirts and dresses to ride shorter, like sleeves and necklines needing to be widened, like thighs and fupas existing. and our clothes have real, usable pockets.

I've been surrounded by reminders of age and death since I was very young.

My momma's baby shower was at a nursing home. My first non-medical outing as a baby was to a nursing home. I experienced 4? I think? deaths in my family before I was even in the double digits, possibly more than that. A good chunk of my childhood was living with dementia patients. I remember joking around about how I cried more at my cat's death at 4 years old than I did my great grandmas at.. what was it... 10? 12? Fuck. And now im thinking in my adulthood "Oh. Yeah that messed me up I am NOT doing well"

There are autistic people who are or have been in "special ed." There are autistic people who are or have been in psych wards. There are autistic people who are in group homes. There are autistic people who require full-time care. There are autistic people with "low IQs" (and stop treating "IQ" like a neutral measurement please and thank you). For a really long time and arguably in many circles still today, "autistic" and its variants ("sperg" etc) were considered equivalent to if not synonymous with the r-slur (and "slow" and etc). Many autistic people were not only called the r-slur, but were the main representation of what the r-slur looked like to the people calling them that. There are people who want to develop fetal brain scan technology so they can get an abortion if the fetus scans as "autistic." There are autistic people who are and always will be nonverbal. There are autistic people with congenital disabilities. There are autistic people (arguably most autistic people!) who are not "invisibly disabled." Autism is capable of being one of the most "visible" disabilities specifically because it is so wholly un-normalized as a disability. The idea that autistic people are a unanimous front of Kinda Quirky Nerdy White Guys (something I'd argue extends to the "Tumblr fandom blog autistic" stereotype) and thus can never actually relate to your posts about Real Disabilities is objectively ableist. Anti-autistic ableism is so normalized that getting mad (and since this is Tumblr, usually getting hyperbolically violently mad) at autistic people for "not reading the room" is considered, like, #punk and Disability Activist of you. Because those pesky autists need to learn to shut up for once don't they

This is why shit like THIS is important.

Characters, like us, often have "filters" that they speak information even IF they are a little more self aware than the average guy. Therapy speak only works if the character has been shown to speak like that, (which is rare) but this is what "Show Dont Tell" and "Subtext" has been trying to teach you.
