sketchbook -- RED ROOM
ok so, I approached my local library with a proposal to donate a mural as a way to A: build portfolio/gain practical experience and B: give back to a beloved public institution. The director was very enthusiastic about it and i've been working on it since the beginning of March. Come with me as I endeavor to paint what is in all honesty an excessive amount of birds
I wanted the birds to look like they were actually in the space so first thing after doing the draft was to do a lighting study
after that I covered the walls in letters in lieu of a projector/vr headset bc i have neither of those :) Then i take a picture of the section of wall and superimpose the lineart over top of it so I can pencil in the lines
et voila
and that was a whole week on it's own so next comes the paintin' >:)
and now, the birds
Birds 1 and 2/14: Red Winged Blackbird, Male and female, Agelaius phoeniceus
Bird 3/14, American Robin, Turdus migratorius
hoo boy, ok *out of breath*
GIVE IT UP FOR BIRD NUMBUH 5, THE CANADIAN GOOSE, Branta canadensis!!!!
this guy took me about 4 days to completely finish, all of those freakingk coverts were a bear to render
speaking of obnoxious coverts:
bird 5/14, Bluejay, Cyanocitta cristata
the friggin stripes almost got me chat, i may not make it
Madam....
birds 6 and 7: American Goldfinch, Spinus tristis, male and female
pleasantly simple to paint! next is the flickerrrrr
*melts into goo*
BIRD NUMBER 8, (yellow shafted) NORTHERN FLICKERRRRR, Colaptes auratus
genuinely made me start questioning my sanity around day 3, it's half the size the of the goose, WHY did it take me 4 days to finish??
nothing but pain and suffering, i'm sure hope the next bird will be much easier and with FAR less barring :)
in other news, I am losing my sanity hairline

theres a girl going viral criticizing a book for "using a thesaurus" and frankly. you people are not reading hard enough books
"force myself to perceive its beauty" and "astonished by her forwardness" those are normal words
the big one is a conglomerate of people which. that sentence works people sorry. a lot of you saw the Google ai definition and decided it at wrong, but it does in fact mean a collection of different things
do I think you should be using a thesaurus for every word? no. but idk i think changing up word choice is important in prose to a point
Back in my day you had to pick up a LITERAL physics thesaurus to find cool words. Now you can literally highlight them on your phone and it instantly tells you what it means. By all logic people should be even more literate but here we are
being bisexual is crazy i haven't made a single good decision in my life

Hey hang on a second
As important as it was to contact Tumblr when they made that asinine, fucked up change, now that they've reversed it, you have a chance to say thanks for reversing it.
I know that you're probably still riding the high (negative) from the stress of going through yesterday's changes, and worrying about the fate of your community, and how badly the change would have affected creators. We banded together, and we let the staff know that we didn't like what they were doing, and you know what? They listened. That's part of why we're here on Tumblr and not other places that would have just shoved that down our throats regardless of the hundreds of thousands of complaints. Yeah, they fucked up. Big time. But they also backed off, and it's important to speak on that front as well if you want them to do it again later.
So, even though you may still be mad that they did it at all, take a moment and a breath, and click here. Select feedback if it isn't already selected. And just say "Hey, thanks for listening to your users, and for rolling back the change. I like my community here, and I like that you listened to us when we asked you not to do something we didn't like." It doesn't need to be elaborate. But if we want them to listen to us, making it worth listening to us is a step in the process.
Which also means that if you added a negative review somewhere due to this update, consider retracting or editing it to address the back track on the update. If you were a premium user and you cancelled in order to speak with your money to object to the change, consider speaking again now that you've been listened to.
Staff fucked up. But I'd rather have a staff that fucks up sometimes and then actually listens to its users and fixes or tries to fix it, than a staff that fucks up and pushes through to force the fuck up on everyone. So I'm going to thank them for listening this time, and I'm going to encourage them to listen again next time.
Here’s the feedback I just gave, in case anyone wants a template. Note the 1) thanking them not just for rolling back the update, but for heeding the community; 2) reiterating why the update sucked, but MOREOVER 3) emphasizing what I LIKE about Tumblr, and even about the update, ft. suggestion for an improved version.
Thank you for reversing that update to how reblog chains work! I’m glad you listened to community feedback. The fact that staff actually seem to sometimes care what the userbase wants is part of why I stay on Tumblr. That, and the anonymity, and the cultivated sense of community fueled by creativity and wit!
(The cultivated community which, as a reminder, that update would’ve actively attacked. It severely inhibited creators’ ability to track their content. It created social jockeying between replies that no one wants. It removed the sense of community embodied by multi-comment posts that celebrate 1 million notes as a collective achievement. Thanks again for NOT moving forward with it!)
That said!! I do appreciate the effort to make it easier to reblog from a specific person further up a reblog chain, and I especially am interested in being able to see all notes from a post I add a comment on, not just those who interact with it on my blog. But the notes NEED to flow upstream. The original poster should be able to see ALL reblogs, likes, and replies on a post in their Activity feed, and an viewing tumblrite should be able to see ALL reblogs, likes, and replies by clicking on the original post. When User B reblogs-with-comment from User A, and Users C and D reblog-with-comment from B, then B should see all their own + all User C’s and User D’s interactions, and A should see it ALL. That would be great!!
P.S. If this site is ever going to shut down for real, for the last week of its existence, please re-enable letting people edit each others posts. Let us burn it down the way it was meant to go.
