Tea is not a beverage. Tea is way of life.
"Don’t worry. You might not like the taste of this tea at first but you’ll get used to it."
No. Tea is not something you can “get used to”. Tea is something you admire, you let it flow into your life. You have trust in tea and tea enhances you. There is whole world hiding in one cup of tea. When you drink a fantabulous Darjeeling, you drink the untouched air of Himalaya. And when you smell and taste an excellent pu-erh tea, you smell and taste the moist walls of Tibetan temples.
So if you don’t like tea, it’s OK. Maybe you just were not designed for each other.
there’s nothing like tea.
holy shit the tea fandom doesn’t fuck around

Teashop Review: Cally's Teas in Edmonton
I think I have found my new favourite place!
Cally's Teas is just off Whyte and is a really beautiful little shop. It's a really unique shop nestled between a tattoo shop and an underwear shop of all places! It was also voted Best Tea Shop by VUE Weekly readers in the annual Urban Spoon Awards.
The image above is actually a really good example of the decor. It's quirky and eccentric, but fits together to create a homey and relaxing atmosphere surrounded by tea! There are over 250 varieties of tea as well as a wide selection of some of the most beautiful teaware I've ever seen.
I had their Versailles Earl Grey Lavender tea which was to die for. I love Earl Grey and adding that bit of lavender is beautiful. I paired it with their lemon almond cake which is both delicious AND gluten free. (Actually, even though not tea related, I have to say that the baked goods at Cally's are unbelievable. They have a decent variety, all fresh and delicious and also have a few gluten free options for those who require or prefer that.)
The best part of the shop is, by far, the staff. All the ladies that I interacted with today were friendly and knowledgable. They have a sincere desire to get to know the people who are visiting the shop and to make them feel at home. It was really wonderful and I hope to make my appearances there more frequent!
Sidenote: The tea currently featured there is called Magic by the Sea (if I recall correctly.) It's a black tea with mango and passionfruit. It's an amazing tea so go in and give it a try as well!
“This gorgeous Hälssen & Lyon calendar is made of brewable tea. Each day is made of fine pressed wafer thin tea leaves.”

Recipe: London Fog (without artificial flavor syrups)
For those who don't know what a London Fog is, usually it is earl grey tea, milk and vanilla syrup/flavoring. (I'm sure many people are familiar with the flavor syrups that places like Starbucks have.)
I love London Fogs, but I also hate artificial syrups. So here's a simple recipe to avoid that.
What you'll need: Cream of Earl Grey tea (I'm using David's Tea, but you should be able to find a cream of earl grey in any tea store) 1 cup hot water 1 cup milk (of your choice. I would advise against almond milk)
How to do it: Prepare your tea as normal. My steeping preference is the steeper above, but whatever you use will work fine as well.
Either steam milk or bring to boil in a saucepan. If you are using the saucepan method be very careful. Milk boils slowly and then all at once. If you're not paying attention it will boil over in seconds. This is not a mess you want to clean up. (It is the mess I currently am cleaning up. Oops!)
Combine the milk with the steeped tea and voila!
Extra tips: Brew the tea stronger than usual. I used second day leaves and it doesn't have a strong enough taste. You are combining with milk so you need to flavor balance otherwise you are just drinking hot milk!
For fun add Irish Creme liqueur.
If the Cream of Earl Grey tea doesn't have a strong enough vanilla taste for you the same recipe can be done with regular earl grey and adding your preferred amount of vanilla sweetner.
This is a great earl morning drink!
Tea for Health
Despite the obvious teas that are marketed for health (which aren't always what they are cracked up to be ESPECIALLY if they are bagged teas), there are a lot of natural health benefits from tea. A cup of tea can go a long way to make positive health changes. Keep in mind that the health benefits are extremely limited to none in instant teas like Tetley, Lipton etc. and that tea in no way can take the role of medical treatment away if you are suffering from certain ailments. Tea isn't a cure all, but it can be a good part of a healthier lifestyle. (This will be a long post, sorry)
For starters: my medical tea box contains green tea (from China so I'm not sure brand or name), Cold 911, Organic Detox, Le Digestif (this one is a lifesaver) and Cardio Tea. (All are from David's Tea, Cardio is now discontinued but I'm sure there are similar teas.) On top of these I also have a happy tea (to fight depression) as well as a stress tea. These ones are a lot more for specific health issues which I'll go into in a later post.
Green tea: Green tea’s antioxidants may help prevent the growth of bladder, breast, lung, stomach, pancreatic, and colorectal cancers. It has also shown to assist in unclogging arteries, burn fat and may help reduce the risk of some neurological disorders.
Black Tea: Black tea has the highest amount of caffeine. It's also shown that it may reduce the risk of stroke and also help protect the lungs from cigarette smoke.
White Tea; White tea is uncured and unfermented which actually gives it the highest anticancer properties compared to most other processed tea.
Oolong Tea: This particular tea is found to have lower bad cholesterol levels. It is also often associated with weight loss, though it's effectiveness is unsupported. Certain types of Oolong can boost metabolism however.
Pu'erh Tea: Pu'erh is made from aged and fermented leaves. It is considered a black tea. One study found that animals had less LDL cholesterol levels and had less weight gain, however this is not fully supported much like the weight related properties of Oolong.
