"YOU THERE, BOY! Why are you doing that?"
"Why, it's because it's January 7th and Jay Eazy ain't dropped yet, sir!"
"January 7th! Then don't worry, you haven't missed it! Do you know the shawty next door?"
"Why, the one who's cute, and her circle too?"
"A book smart boy! A money smart boy! Makes you more intelligent! Go and get her and tell her to bring a friend! Come back in less than five minutes, and I'll let you slide with your dog like you're Mega Man!"
The main curators of colonial memories are still white people in many parts of the world.
For example, you still have to go to The Netherlands to look up anything about precolonial Indonesia in their archives
Same with us, a lot of Malaysian history isn't being unstudied due to a lack of interest, but due to the archives and materials being under ownership of the British government or under private ownership of British individuals and their estates. Which you can only access by studying there or buying them. A lot of the present fields of studies we do have around these were built of the backs of programs given by the "grace" of the British government or researchers who could afford the costs. Even then, our generation and future researchers will forever be kneecapped by this limitation.
At the turn of the century, the government opened four other secondary schools in Tehran, Isfahan, and Tabriz; and five new colleges affiliated with the Dar al-Fanon – two military colleges and schools of agriculture, political science, and foreign languages. The last, through the Government Printing Office, published more than 160 books. These included 80 medical, military, and language textbooks; 10 travelogues – including Nasser al-Din Shah’s tour of Europe; 10 abbreviated translations of Western classics such as Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe, Dumas’ Three Musketeers, Verne’s Around the World in Eighty Days, Descartes’ Discourses, Newton’s Principia, and Darwin’s Origin of the Species; 20 biographies of world-famous figures – including those of Louis XIV, Napoleon, Peter the Great, Nicholas I, Frederick the Great, and Wilhelm I; and, most significant of all, 10 histories of Iran, including pre-Islamic Iran, written mostly by Europeans. Thus Iranians began to see their own past as well as world history mainly through Western eyes [emphasis added].

This comment was left on a post about making the most of the Libby app. "Excessive use of generous lending policies" is the most absurd phrase I've ever seen anyone use to discuss libraries.

This lot of bollocks around Islamophobia underlying the Uygur genocide hoax is so clumsily set.
The largest mosque anywhere across China is the Id Kah («عيد گاه» in conventional Uygur grammar) mosque, a 15th century temple with infrastructural renovations ordered by the Chinese Communist Party, located in Kashgar, Xinjiang. The last ordained imām who oversaw it, member of the National People's Congress and with the Chinese Communist Party's approval, was an ethnic Uygur named Jüme Tahir. He was murdered by local Ua77abīs in July 2014, as he was heading out from Fajr duties. The then Party's Secretary of Xinjiang co-presided over the imām's funeral and instructed attendees (and why would a Communist do this, if Communism is supposed to be islamophobic?) to observe a moment in silence to honour him.
The Chinese Communist Party then closed the mosque for Islamic services two years later, out of fear that Ua77abī armed violence would endanger more lives of people attending their rites duly.
I should've looked into it sooner than I did years ago.
Please increase your contribution to The Sameer Project.
We are a donations based aid initiative for Gaza led by Palestinians,
More and more community kitchens in Gaza had to close down because of the relentless bombings by Israel. Please consider increasing your donation to The Sameer Project so they can expand their operation
Please donate right now if you are able!! The next channel payment should come within a couple days and I will be continuing to donate to the Sameer project. Every bit helps!
(spent too long on Tumblr voice) actually the status quo is okay! It's okay to be the status quo! you don't have to be anything besides the status quo! #statusquoaffirmation #statusquosafe
the reason usa birth rates going down is because we have a whole generation of women whose sexual awakening was Sans undertale and none of the men want to wear jorts and drink ketchup and go Er er er
It’s kind of crazy how people demand that impcore military pigs be coddled into not being part of a genocidal murder machine. They should actually get repeatedly beaten over the head with the reality of the institution they are a part of until they defect or die about it. There shouldn’t be a single second of their lives where they aren’t reminded of what they serve and the blood that is on their hands. Even if they “already know.”
If you're in the US military or National Guard, frag yourself+your entire unit immediately and pray that that is enough penance for the horrors you have facilitated/visited upon the world in the name of imperialism and that you won’t go straight to hell when you bite it.
does anyone remember that "androphobia" is a real word that means being genuinely Afraid of men. and it's mostly used to describe women who are intensely scared of men following abuse/assault. and this is a whole thing where you can have a service dog that keeps men away. because i remember that, having known several women both cis and trans who were like this, and it really is odd to see the term misused as another word for misandry lol that is not what it means
Northern Gaza has been starving for 2 months now
Please donate to the Sameer Project and Dahnoun Mutual Aid. Many NGOs and nonprofits have ceased operations in the north due to danger and lack of supplies — these are two Gazawi-led grassroots initiatives that buy food, water, clothes, and baby supplies in bulk to serve the most vulnerable people in their communities in the North at no cost.
Translating Falasteen (Palestine), in collaboration with The Sameer Project, launched a fundraising campaign to support families in Gaza fac

I think there’s a really odd gap in general supply chain knowledge in which people scapegoat AI as this new devastating environmental concern, when internet data centers have been an environmental problem before that. The internet already had the infrastructure to support it in 2017, before GPT-1 was released. Data centers are not a new problem. The internet already had a large physical presence, but people didn’t really think much of it until there were new AI-related developments (and then attribute all data centers to being related to generative AI? Where do people think YouTube videos are stored? The literal clouds in the sky?)
A Makeship plushie has a bigger carbon footprint than a thousand LLM queries but it is seen as an acceptable environmental impact, because it has been deemed socially acceptable to contract low wage factories in the Global South to make toys to sell to customers worldwide at a 3000% markup, with all the profits staying in the Global North. Not many people think of that environmental impact
cancel your mullvad subscription
tech news today is that Mullvad VPN has gone mask-off about being the major funding source for the Swedish Orebro party, who are racist nationalists. unfortunately all discussion of this is occurring on fucking Mastodon instances i can barely load
if you are a mullvad customer (as i am) and want to get out, here is guidance from this guy
If you don't want your Mullvad fees going to fund neo-Nazis - or @mozilla VPN fees, which is rebranded Mullvad - cancel and get a refund immediately that's whose "free speech" the official account is talking about here, and that's where your fees go to EDIT: Mullvad has a 14 day refund policy. But the message below is a direct call to ask for a refund if you don't want to give money to Nazis. If Mullvad refuse a refund, call your consumer protection agency. And reverse credit card charges on the basis of deceptive refund policy representations. It's not like you ever want to be a Mullvad customer again. archive copy of Mullvad statement: https://web.archive.org/web/2026062717
