âYeah, sure.â She was more focused on the task at hand. She grabbed a branch that had a good amount of nuts on it and snapped it, tossing it down to Adam âHere.â
She climbed back down the tree and stood next to him âSee? I told you.â
He caught the branch handily, though eyed it with some melancholy.
âIt is bad for the tree to snap its branches so,â he commented as he handed over the branch and its pecan bounty once she was on the ground.  âBut it is good that you didnât fall.â
waywardfreckledâ:
    All right, heâll bite.
Dean Winchester is a name thatâs ended up on the FBIâs âMost Wantedâ. For all intents and purposes, heâs legally presumed dead. Better than being hunted. Canât get the job done when your face is smeared across everyoneâs television, you name a whisper in the dark so powerful one could almost create a tulpa of their idea of who youâre supposed to be.
People like a mob, they like to fashion a villain out of smoke and mirrors. With the man before him, he canât imagine itâs an incredibly long stretch or difficult undertaking.
âSay I take the high road. Innocent âtil proven guilty. Doesnât answer why you have an interest in the case. Not exactly on the news at ten.â
Adam shrugged.  âI have no vested interest, true, but I have taken a dislike to bullies over the years. Even aside from my own reputation, I would rather not allow fear and death to flourish when I may be able to stop it.â
After all, he had caused enough of it himself. If he could rectify some of that by facing what most people couldnât... well, maybe someday he would sleep a little better.
He rather doubted it.

âFrequently. 0 out of 10 stars; would not recommend.â
âWe are agreed on that, then.â

Pikeâs suspicions were heightened by the manâs hesitance to show his face, but as he was willing to obey the captainâs request, he lowered and holstered his phaser.
âWell, Adam,â Pike replied, âIâm Captain Christopher Pike of the U.S.S. Enterprise. And, you donât need to fear me, either. I just get a little jumpy when I hear movement in an area where I canât see anything; Iâm sure you understand. I wonât hurt you.â
As the other lowered his phaser, Adam relaxed further. He nodded.  âI understand,â he replied.  âIâm a maintenance engineer here, currently. I apologize for the low light, I am somewhat light-sensitive.â
He stepped aside, tapping a wall panel to increase the light to a more acceptable level.  âWhat brings a Starfleet Captain this way, if I may ask?â

âbeware; for i am fearless, and therefore powerful.â
âlife, although it may only be an accumulation of anguish, is dear to me, and i will defend it.â
âi have love in me, the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and rage, the likes of which you would not believe.â
âif i cannot satisfy one, i will indulge the other.â
âif i cannot inspire love, i will cause fear!â
âthere is something at work in my soul, which i do not understand.â
âman, how ignorant art thou in thy pride of wisdom!â
âi wish to be allowed to speak.â
âmake me happy, and i shall again be virtuous.â
âi was benevolent and good; misery made me a fiend.â
âyou accuse me of murder.â
âlisten to me, (Â name ).â
âaccursed creator!â
âlearn from meâ
âi am alone and miserable.â
âonly someone as ugly as i am could love me.â
âi shall need no other happiness.â
âit was the secrets of heaven and earth that i desired to learn.â
âi do not understand why men who knew all about good and evil could hate and kill each other.â
âwhy did i not die?â
âi was doomed to live.â
âbe men, or be more than men.â
âthis ice is not made of such stuffs as your hearts may be.â
âi am malicious because i am miserable.â
âwhy did you form a monster so hideous that even you turned from me in disgust?â
âfarewell.â
âmy spirit will sleep in peace.â
âi looked upon the sea; it was to be my grave.â
âdo you share my madness?â
âsoon these burning miseries will be extinct.â
âyou shall repent of the injuries you inflict.â
âdevil, do you dare approach me?â
âevil thenceforth became my good.â
âmy reign is not over yet.â
âfollow me.â
âwhere can i find rest but in death?â
âIâm a strange new kind of inbetween thing arenât I not at home with the dead nor with the livingâ
Antigonick (Sophokles) tr. Anne Carson
Iâm what the kids call âan atrocity to godâ.
Iâm in the middle of re-reading Frankenstein, and something I never quite realized before â even though Iâve seen it pointed out by others â is just how ineffectual Frankenstein is in dealing with anything. He whines, and he moans, and laments his life, but he never does anything about it.
When he first brings his creation to life and flees in terror, he takes absolutely no action afterwards. He doesnât arm himself and resolve to return and kill the perceived monster he has birthed, he just wanders the streets until he goes home and hopes that it has gone away. When he gets back and sees that it is gone from his apartment he doesnât try to marshal a pursuit, heâs just happy that itâs gone and thatâs it. He gives absolutely no thought to what it may be doing out in the world, since itâs not his problem anymore.
When he learns that his brother has been murdered and their maid has been framed, he becomes convinced that the creature is responsible but he doesnât tell anybody. He doesnât even make up a mundane story that bypasses bringing a creature to life, like saying that he made a personal enemy who is targeting his family and that is why Justine is being framed. He just says that he believes her innocent but takes no action, and expects that to get her acquitted. He even bemoans that he has it worse than Justine since even though she is executed his guilt is so hard to bear.
After Justineâs death he says he is considering suicide, but he resists because if he did so then there would be nobody to protect his family. Except, again, he isnât doing any protecting. He still hasnât told anybody the truth, nor has he made up that plausible mundane explanation to get them on their guard. He doesnât mount a watch at night or go about armed. He takes no action.
He is so self-centered that all he talks about is how hard everybody elseâs pain is on him, and so spoiled that he does absolutely nothing to resolve any situation. He just seems to expect it to be worked out because he wants it so.
What a tool.
YES. In 2020 we recognize that Frankenstein was not the monster, or even the doctor, but rather a dumbass little bitch.
@cursedcreation
All very true.
((Victor never had to confront hardship or having to solve his problems as a child, and so he lacked that skill as an adult.))

âItâs fine, I do this all the time!â Emma stated as she climbed up higher into the tree. It was full of pecans, and she figured why not grab a few to snack on? âIf youâre really that worried, just make sure to catch me.â
Adam did not usually make a habit of waiting around underneath trees to catch people climbing too high, but he sighed and remained where he stood.
âDo try not to fall from too high up? Even caught, the force of the stop could be dangerous.â
((Hey, I'm alive. Going to be working on doing some replies coming up. Still not recovered from the new Dresden Files book, though...))
His colour scheme and stitching is inconsistent cuz I changed his design like a thousand times.

Love people who have interests or hyperfixations in morbid or depressing or scary fields because theyâre trying so hard to balance âho boy am I excited to talk about all this information I knowâ and âI recognize that this is very bad and Iâm trying to be a little somber about it.â
Watching a documentary about poisonings during the Victorian era and this historian clearly knows so much about arsenic and is trying really hard to be chill.
