…viewing the world through a conspiratorial lens is distasteful and rube-coded, and it also leads to being wrong about practically everything. The conspiratorial mindset views everything as being intentional and connected, reading sinister meanings into events that may or may not even be related at all. Epstein was able to coast because he was powerful and well-connected, but conspiracy theorists don’t seem to have been thinking about Epstein until he was caught, which gave them an air of legitimacy. Before 2019 and his arrest and suicide, we had Pizzagate and Gamergate and QAnon and all this shit unrelated to him that latched onto child abuse because child abuse is lurid and horrible. Conspiracy theorists were talking about people worshipping Satan, extracting children’s blood to refine it into an imaginary youth potion, and the Clintons cutting off children’s faces and wearing them. They did not have in mind real-life sex trafficking of the kind that Epstein was doing. Conspiracy theorists are not reliable thinkers or observers; they are always taking in information through an extremely distorted lens to serve their own narrative.
men's sports rpf is ethical because i'm making that man significantly more empathetic and emotionally intelligent, and with a much richer inner world. he should be thanking me, actually
I was on Instagram a couple of weeks ago and I saw that there was a group near me that was starting a club to play Rummikub. I was super excited. They had posted a story saying, “Hey, if you’d like to be updated on future club events, please reply to this story!” So I did. I got messaged back a couple days ago by someone from the club account asking me to “clarify” about the Israeli flag in my bio. I asked what that had to do with the club and got a response along the lines of, “This is a safe space and we don’t allow people who support perpetrators of a genocide or have harmful views here.”
Are you fucking kidding me? You want to take a game that was created by a Jewish-Israeli Holocaust survivor and popularized IN Israel and then say Jewish people who support Israel cannot join?
I just-I genuinely cannot anymore. You have the gall to take our culture and then ban us from participating because we aren’t the “right” kind of Jew you want?
I truly want to believe that things will get better, but I’m starting to lose hope, and that’s saying something.
Thanks for letting me type this out, I felt really alone at first, but talking about it here made me feel better.
.
I think a lot of people are pro-life because they know they would have been aborted, that is secretly their motivation and not actually a misguided interpretation of Christian theology or a belief that life begins at conception. They’re say shit like “What if your mom aborted you?” like, okay I wouldn’t be here, that really wasn’t on the table because my parents really wanted me and was on fertility treatments to try to have me. Would your mom have aborted you? Is that what this is all about, you wouldn’t have been born if your mother wasn’t coerced/forced to carry you to term and give birth to you so you feel like everyone else should be forced to give birth to their annoying baby?
Ohhhhh, I get it. You harass people outside of abortion clinics because you did not get enough attention as a child.
I think what has been frightening and frustrating about evolving attitudes towards I/P is a loss of interest in synthesis, especially (although not entirely) on the pro-Palestine side. I feel like pre-10/7 there was this idea (at least in the West) from both sides as well as people in the middle that the goal of pro-Israel/pro-Palestinian activism was not for one side to “win” but for both sides to achieve a new status quo that they could live with and/or that they could build on. Post 10/7 wide swaths of the pro-Palestine side—or rather, wide swaths of formerly neutral people who if pressed probably would say something like my previous sentence about a new status quo, who became explicitly pro-Palestinian due to horror at the devastation of Gaza—decided that justice could only be served by a solution in which Palestine “won” and Israel “lost”. While there were some formerly neutral people who became pro-Israel due to the horrors of 10/7, mostly pro-Israel people in general seem to be still operating on the synthesis model (even as their faith that there is Palestinian support for synthesis), which in practice feels very isolating as we discover that people we thought were allies instead view Israel “losing” as being a critical step towards Justice
death, taxes, pierresteban beef
I think one of the funniest abortion stances I've heard was from my parents neighbor. He's a like, hard-core libertarian viking larper guy who is very tall and very fat and very bald.
He believes a fetus is human with a soul, but also its "basically attacking the woman's body" so if she wants to get rid of it, that's "basically self-defense". He compared it to shooting a home invader. So he supports abortion not as healthcare, but as killing a baby in self-defense
Y'know I'm so glad someone reminded me of this. Because this was also discussed.
My stepmother did NOT like the way her Libertarian Viking Neighbor framed pregnancy as the fetus "attacking the woman". She incredulously told him this was extremely disrespectful to expectant mothers to portray pregnancy as so violent and negative.
Libertarian Viking Neighbor's response was that people consensually hurt each other all the time, and "there's like a whole community about that, with the acronym the one that starts with a B" And his reasoning was that if the mother was consenting to bring attacked by the baby, it in fact wasn't violent and negative because there was consent.
He brought up people consensually hurting each other, didn't go for one of the obvious answers like boxing or body mods or something, no he went STRAIGHT TO BDSM and he DIDN'T EVEN REMEMBER THE ACRONYM

This submission by a rare Arab atheist says something Western media almost never admits:
In Arabic, ordinary Arabs barely even discuss the “two-state solution.”
Not as a serious option. Not as a public debate. Not even as something to reject. It mostly exists in official speeches aimed at Western audiences.
I used to believe in that two state delusion too.
Then Israel offered, in the 2000s, almost everything Westerners keep saying the Palestinians want: all of Gaza, roughly 96% of the West Bank, a road connecting them under their control, and even parts of Jerusalem.
The answer was not peace.
The answer was the Second Intifada. Years of suicide bombings, shootings, buses exploding, cafés blown up, and Israeli civilians murdered in the streets.
At some point people need to ask the obvious question:
How can so many Westerners still be this detached from reality? Even after October 7?
And why is their media constantly lying to them about what Arab societies actually believe?
@ExposingHamas
Europe literally invented the concept of race in order to justify slavery. Before calling out America for shit, look at who their grandfathers were.
If you genuinly believe this bullshit, sue your history teacher.
i really dislike the notion that the people who colonized and destroyed my people's native land and forcibly converted indigenous people are equally indigenous as the people they colonized and forcibly converted. or that their descendants who openly identify with said colonizing empire are equally indigenous.
when i was a kid i decided that killing people was bad therefore war was bad therefore the military was evil. and adults would tell me it's more nuanced than that and i would understand when i grew up. well i'm a grown up now and idk i still think that killing people is bad and war is bad and the military is evil
so, sometimee, other militaries start a war with you
(sincerely, a Ukrainian)
It always goes like:
"There is an evil empire next door to you, and they keep trying to invade"
"Well, just let them? Borders aren't real, silly!"
"When they invade they want to stop you from passing down your culture, ban your language, stop you from celebrating your holidays, kidnap your kids and scatter them to the four winds."
"Well, I would just stop them, I would say no! I'd hashtag RESIST!"
"Then, they will kill you, and everyone who tries to resist."
"Well then I would fight back, I'd form a resistance movement against them, we'd train with weapons and learn to make bombs and..."
"Wouldn't it be easier if you had already trained that resistance before people were dying? Maybe, get them to learn how to hold a rifle or pilot a drone before they have to do it in secret?"
"Yeah, probably."
"Congratulations, that's an army."
Well put. After that, I'd be like, "Welcome to Nuance-land, kiddo. It's a big-ass area full of shades of grey where you're both morally right and ethically wrong or vice versa at the same damned time. This land's proper name is Real Life."
Maladaptive daydreaming as a child was like "what if I was in the digimon universe" and now it's like "what if someone genuinely loved me even though I'm flawed"

I can’t imagine how poor Sofiia must be feeling having to hear and pay respect to the anthem of the country that is bringing war to her country…🤢 (i still don’t understand ains were restored with all the honours)
Let me tell you something about Sofiia Kraiinska. Sofiia Kraiinska had to live in Italy for 2 years because of the war. Sofiia Kraiinska had her home hall DESTROYED just as she won the silver medal yesterday. Half of Sofiia Kraiinska's town is NO LONGER THERE. And this girl has to listen to the anthem of the country to do this after being behind a gymnast WHO HAS EXPLICITLY PARTICIPATED in pro-war propaganda.
Fuck Russia
