HELLO VEN!! What animal do you associate with each unfortunate gen character? (I'm especially curious about the Quagmires of course hehe)
HIYA CYGNINAE!!! Eheheh a Quagmire questionâŠ. WonderousâŠ..
Quigley: A wolf. Hear me out; Quigley was alone for so LONG and I love the idea that because of that and bc of the trauma he endured from the fire+from solitude, Quigley goes a little wild. Thereâs a look in his wide eyes that wasnât there before, heâs skittish, flinches at unexpected noises, holds conversations with people who arenât even there (when he was alone after the fire I hc he developed a habit of talking to imaginary versions of his siblings, parents, and later, Jacques, using them to âhelp himâ make decisions).
Before the fire, he was wild in a different way. A playful way. Heâd map out areas as he explored, venturing into the wild with a parent or whichever of his triplets he managed to convince to come along (usually Isadora, Duncan preferred the warmth of home).
Then, of course, thereâs the link between a wolfâs teeth which it uses to protect itself, and Quigley, who (in Netflix canon) was willing to take EsmĂ© hostage, stating that sometimes you need to âfight fire with fire.â In the minuscule amount of screen time Quigley got this wasnât even the only instance of him doing something immoral because he felt he had to. He also:
- Left an infant with her captors to use her to gain knowledge about the last safe place
- Broke his word to the Baudelaires by not meeting them at the last safe place like he said he would (instead he chose to try find his own siblings)
Also, wolves are fiercely loyal to their pack. The problem is, instead of being loyal to the Baudelaires Quigley is loyal to people who only want to use him (VFD).
- He doesnât reunite with his siblings while they were at Prufrock, or before that, because he chooses to obey Jacques who warns him not to.
- In Netflix THH he enters a hospital which is in the middle of BURNING DOWN so he can retrieve the sugar bowl for VFD
- In TGG Quigley yet again travels in pursuit of the sugar bowl, which he then passes on to carrier birds to take to the hotel denouement.
Isadora: A black cat. Much like the book!Quagmires with their wide eyes and eery habit of talking in sync, black cats are considered creepy and/or cursed. The fact black cats are linked to witchcraft and Halloween especially makes me associate them with Isadora. You cannot tell me that girl wouldnât be up for using an ouija board the second she could get her hands on one.
Duncan: A crow. I mostly associate crows with him because of TVV. However, itâs also because of how intelligent crows are, how they remember the faces of those who are kind to them.
Sunny: A shark. Mostly bc of that line in TAA where the kids are talking about their idols and Sunny yells that hers is a âshark!â But! Also! Thereâs a lot of misinformation about sharks bc of all the bad press and misinformation from movies like âJAWSâ framing them as needlessly violent villains when sharks usually only attack humans when they feel threatened by them. Similarly, Sunny gets bad press from the Daily Punctilio which calls her and her siblings âthe Baudelaire butchersâ [<in a Brett Helquist illustration]. Did she (very likely) commit mass murder via convincing Olaf to set the Hotel Denouement on fire? Yes. Did she only do that bc she felt cornered? Also yes. Additionally, I hc that post-canon Sunny has violent responses to everyday interactions bc of her PTSD. Like if a school or nursery teacher were to reach down to pat her head sheâd bite their arm or swat it out of the way before they could make contact.
Hmmmm the other characters I need to think more about. Off the top of my head maybe an elephant for Klaus since elephants remember everything, a peacock for Carmelita bc they evolved to show off as a survival tactic, and possibly a whale for Violet bc her dress in Netflix TRR had whales on it and bc
-they are essential to the ecosystem (Violet is essential to her family)
-they die bc of a polluted environment (Violet is harmed by growing up in an environment polluted by abusive and/or neglectful adults)
Andddd yeah that concludes my thoughts for now. đââïžâïž Thanks for the ask! :)
