I'm totally going to soak in the excitement and validation of making #13! Of course I couldn't have done it without the other two authors in the anthology, Tim Waggoner and Gary Braunbeck (especially since people have actually heard of them lol), but it still feels good !

I have no idea why on Earth the tone in my head frequently translates wrong once I open my mouth, or why my brain decides a certain tone is appropriate when it's clearly not, is incredibly aggravating.
But I am increasingly grateful for a partner who allows me a moment of grace to self correct without taking offense. It makes it much easier to actually do that.
My tip for trying to compartmentalize your emotions or desires is to realize when you're using hyperbolic shorthand for an actually realistic desire. I know realizing even that can be difficult sometimes but let me demonstrate
"I wish I was popular" -> I want to be noticed and engaged with, and I need reassurance and the feeling of connection
"I wanna delete my blog and ghost my friends" -> I want to act out in a visible way that expresses how frustrated I am / I feel overwhelmed with connections and need time to cool off
"I wanna do something reckless/dangerous" -> I feel trapped in obligations and am buckling under stress, I need a sufficient outlet and more freedom to exist in peace
Obviously there may be different kinds of feelings or needs under your particular impulses, these are just some fairly common examples of what you could be feeling. The harder part is trying to figure out what it is that causes this impulse, and even harder might be if you don't have control over the situation, and are unable to have your needs met. It's not always your fault if you're feeling bad, but realizing where it stems from can help you seek out new paths to relieve it. This is something I've learnt working in therapy.
The toddler in your heart has valid needs. But it is a toddler and will scream and cry about it. Learn to sit by until it's done and then ask if it wants a juice box or a hug
This is so true and holy crap did it ever take me until I was 40 to figure out that the anger/bitchiness was actually the result of so many many things including: being overstimulated, being confused and afraid to ask for clarification, a necessary routine being disrupted, not knowing how to express distress (god so much distress). And once I started wrangling with all of the things I need, I realized that 1. I'm not actually very go with the flow in a lot of situations, and 2. I'm a lot more pleasant to be around when I trust people I love to hear what I need.
Also didn't help being raised to believe that anything even slightly atypical was "r-slur behavior", that didn't leave a whole lot of ways to go except get mad and get people away from me. Really sucks, let me tell you :/ Because now that I know what's wrong, I've been able to develop tools and coping strategies that actually *gasp* work

"I stand corrected" is an important phrase to add to your vocabulary.

as a librarian, i can't encourage you enough to check out stuff you don't think you'll get around to reading
like other institutions, at the end of the day we have to use numbers to justify our existence and inform our financial decisions
check out that novel by that author you like even if you know there's no time to finish it. check out a movie you like even if you can't watch it. check out a sewing machine even if you don't have time for a project. we don't check if you finish anything, and it all adds up.
support your local library by checking out things you don't need

i think it’s okay if people are a little bit stupid (or oblivious) and need things spelled out for them but i also think media should stop catering to these people
for example if you need a story to explicitly tell you that adultery is bad otherwise you might get confused about whether or not people should cheat on their partners in real life, that’s fine. it doesn’t make you a bad or unworthy person. it does however mean that you should probably start watching nick jr instead of Ambiguous Situations: The Television Show

When I tell you guys how exciting it is to have a physical copy of my novella in my hands! I was squealing! I heard that this is one of the longest Dark Tide books they've done and I guess that's also an accomplishment lol.
The only other story of mine in print was from a DS9 Cardassian themed zine called Uncertain Times and that's under my Cyrelia J handle. Also very cool, just in a different way.

I'm naturally quite fond of my story which features lots of nerdy 90s and 00s nostalgia, but also the problematic relationships we all know and love, and a protagonist fucked up enough to make you feel better about your own issues 😅
Someone needs to explain to me like I'm 5, these literary magazines who tout different submission windows for "marginalized groups" and then go out of their way to exclude trans men. Like excuse me, motherfucker I'm sorry I'm not oppressed enough or in the right way or have some mystery power I'm not aware of. Holy shit, seeing that "trans women and bipoc" like what the hell is that bullshit? I will spare the rant because this isn't a frigging who has it worse contest. I just resent the hell out of the idea that trans men get excluded from certain "other" spaces as if we don't have any fucking problems.

So much of my life, I've witnessed a discussion about video games harming social skills, as well as too much tv. But for me, video games like rpgs have helped me add to my internal "response tree" when it comes to social interaction, and cartoons especially have been irreplaceable when it comes to understanding what different emotions look like. Of course, I've often had people tell me I "over emote" when I do, but I'm just glad I've gotten a good understanding for what face I should be making and when.

Respinding doubles the number of comments, which can look like stat cheating

I'm option: I fell behind once, and it just spiraled from there until in my mind, I'm hiding in the 10 Cloverfield Lane bunker with the comments on the outside trashing the planet. And like even John Goodman's psycho ass is better than going outside where the comments are waiting for me to respond from like the last 5 years
