I think this should go without saying, but just because I like a music artist doesn't mean I condone/know of any problematic actions they've done.
as a person under the agender/nonbinary umbrella I actually think the recently increased focus on a nonbinary person’s agab is insanely fucking uncomfortable and blatantly exorsexist. Stop trying to sort NB people into boxes of amab vs afab, transfem vs transmasc, tma vs tme, etc etc. It is not praxis or activism to keep attempting to binarize people whose entire identities are built around the fact that they DO NOT ADHERE to a binary. You are just being a fucking tar pit #sorry
tma and tme are to describe one's relationship to transmisogyny. it's similar to describing a relationship to anti-blackness by "creating a binary" of black and non-black (which includes white people, latino people, asian people, etc). tme includes anyone who is not transfeminized (such as cis men, cis women, trans men, etc). just because there are two categories of something doesn't mean you're getting forced into a gender binary. ignoring your relationship to transmisogyny by refusing to understand what tme/tma means is exactly the same as ignoring your relationship to anti-blackness by saying "i dont see color", because sure, you can ignore that there's a structural & systemic issue regarding a specific demographic, but it doesn't mean its not there!
nigga did your white ass really just come onto a black person’s post to try and lecture them about not knowing their own relationship to antiblackness
number one check yourself. Number two comparing TMA/TME to anti-Blackness is a false dichotomy and I need white queer people to stop trying to compare themselves to Black people every single chance they get. oh my god
The two are NOT similar. If you really wanna play the game of equating race and gender, then the equivalent to “Black and nonblack” would be transfem/trans woman and non-transfem/trans woman, not TMA/TME. I can assure you that NO black person is going around saying “antiblack racism affected vs antiblack racism exempt.” Because That Is Stupid.
EVERYONE is affected by antiblackness, because of how deeply it’s ingrained into our entire societal structure. You cannot write off specific demographics as not being affected by certain forms of oppression or discrimination, because the nature of living in a white supremacist-capitalist-patriarchy is that ALL of these systems are INTRINSICALLY connected with each other, and affect EVERYONE to some degree. There are countless historical examples of antiblack legislation directly impacting poor communities of other racial groups- including white people. There are primary targets of discrimination, obviously, but nobody is truly “exempt” from any sort of oppressive system unless they are at the VERY top of the damn food chain.
In the same vein, the intersection of transphobia and misogyny is ALSO deeply ingrained into our society. And because of that, nobody is truly “transmisogyny-exempt.” Even people who aren’t the primary targets are still directly impacted and negatively affected by transmisogynistic systems. I find TMA/TME to be useless in terms of categorization because it directly posits that everyone who gets sorted into the latter group just doesn’t experience any oppression or discrimination derived from transmisogynistic bases at all, which is ridiculous, because that happens All the time.
A trans man or enby who’s mistaken for a trans woman and is assaulted for it, a cis man who’s belittled and attacked on the basis of being Too Feminine, a cis woman who’s publicly shamed, derided, and transvestigated for having testosterone levels that are “too high,” are all examples of non-transfem/trans woman groups being negatively affected on the basis of transmisogyny.
Poor white people being affected by legislation meant to target and attack Black populations and the massive trend of colorism throughout Asian communities are examples of nonblack groups being negatively affected on the basis of antiblackness.
You cannot sort people by what oppression they do and do not face, and attempts to do so are inherently exclusionary and are bound to lead back into denying people of their lived experiences, just because they don’t line up perfectly into these specific categories of “this genre of person goes through this” vs “this genre of person doesn’t go through that.”
I believe that TMA/TME was coined with the best intentions, but the problem is that it’s a clumsy dichotomy and the way a lot of people tend to use it ends up leading back into the same issues of being binary (“amab trans people experience this, afab trans people don’t experience that”) and then THAT leads back into a whole heaping mess in and of itself
Talking about the way transfeminized people are targeted by transmisogyny is not a bad thing in and of itself! But like, you can just say transfem/non-transfem- or even just “transfeminized” to describe the position oppressors will often place people into in order to enact transmisogynistic violence against them- instead of directly trying to state what different groups of people Do And Don’t Experience. you can say “primary targets of transmisogyny” without directly implying that certain groups are exempt from it all together.
THAT is my issue at hand when it comes to TMA/TME. It is an awkward framework to describe oppression, because oppression doesn’t work like that in reality
I see a lot of people talk about the whole transandrophobia thing (I've addressed it before yes it's a real thing) so absurdly uncritically. Multiple times I've heard people say trans people just don't have privilege at all but that's genuinely absurd. If you're white, wealthy, able bodied, ect you have privilege. Its almost always white people saying this and it's generally very concerning to hear. Yes you have privilege for being white. No you don't have privileges to the same extent as a cis straight white guy but that doesn't mean you don't have any at all. If you're going to have conversations about privilege and oppression you have to understand it's an incredibly delicate and complicated issue that doesn't have a just yes or no answer.
”transandrophobia/anti-transmasculinity isn’t real” When i was younger one legitimate thing o had against transitioning (in the future) was that instead of being a women scientist, instead of being progressive and boundary breaking, i would just be a man. What would all the little girls think if i abandoned them, left the harshness of female hood to become a man instead, become not the idol they looked up too?
literally used to get so upset that i would not be a “woman in STEM” and would be taking spots away from women who could be in STEM instead of a man like me. that once my gender changed i was the statistic we were trying to push against. who needs more men like me in STEM?
Not to talk over you but use this as a way to get the conversation outta the tags — it’s younger trans men who needs men like you in stem. When you transition, the world doesn’t just lose a women in stem it also gains a trans man/masc.
@echoiiing said it very well.
So, for everybody that feels that strange shame and pressure of needed to be the Women Scientist, the Women Role Model in the room — you’ll instead be a Trans Masc scientist, a Trans Man Role Model.
Not to mention the fact that the world is always gaining new women every day in the form of trans women. They get to be the Women Scientists and the Women Role Models for women and girls to look up to. It’s not our job to fulfil that role when trans women are doing it so much better than we ever could.
Whenever the world gains a new trans person, future generations of trans people gain an extra bit of hope that they wouldn’t have otherwise had, so never ever feel guilty about transitioning. The world needs you exactly as you are!
[id: a screenshot from a tumblr comment by the user @/echoiiing. It reads "I was worried about this for a while, until I realized I wouldn't be "just another man in STEM". I'd be a trans man in STEM. If I ever make it anywhere, I could be someone for young trans boys to look up to, because they have even less role models than young girls. end ID]
pupgender is just as much a serious gender as woman, mew/mews pronouns aren't less respectable than she/her or he/him, being stargender isn't any more "silly" or "frivolous" than being a man, being xenogender isn't the gender equivalent to playing with toys we ARE our genders no matter how playful with gender a xenogendered person is
if i made a video game where you get to pick the gender of the player character i'd make both the options be nonbinary and you can either have they/them or it/its pronouns. those are your only options
i feel so defensive and protective of people with ARFID like if i had a disorder that made my brain register 90% of food as poison for no reason and i had a bazillion people on the internet constantly calling me a manchild who needs to just grow up and stop being a picky eater i would start killing people
people with ARFID and people with very few autism safe foods and people with contamination OCD and people in ED recovery and everyone else with a complicated relationship with food that no one takes seriously GET BEHIND ME!!!!!!!
That's a hoverfly, Sphiximorpha rachmaninovi!! Get this two winged poser out of here!
Ok let's try that again
Today's wasp of the day is the hornet clearwing....

....moth. That's a hornet clearwing moth (Paranthrene simulans). Pretty convincing especially with how it even mimic's how a wasp flies but the antennae and fluffy face give it away.
SO! The wasp of the day! Today's wasp-

Ok this little guy is pretty cute but clearly still not wasp.
You know what. Fine. Let's just go with a not-wasp for the wasp of the day. And in that case I choose this freak:
Today's (not) wasp of the day is the brown wasp mantidfly (Climaciella brunnea)!

This neuropteran's inspiration is specifically paper wasps (genus: polistes) and will even have matching color morphs in reference to what wasp species are most in the area. Their imitation doesn't just stop at looks though! When provoked these awkward triangle centaurs will adopt the posture of a wasp getting ready to sting— except they got nothing to sting with and are just hoping you won't call their bluff (look out for the raptorial arms though!)
