Hey guys! I’m having this issue with downloading one of the games if anyone can help me!

I’m trying to download Phantom of Venice with two disks onto Windows 11. However I had the same issue when trying to download onto Windows 10 as well.

The first disk works fine and the installation process is going okay until it asks for the second disk. It says “Please insert disk 2 that contains the file video\ALT_A.bik”. When I insert the second disk, it doesn’t find the path automatically so I have to browse for it. When I select the video folder for the second disk and press “OK”, I get an error: “Setup could not find a file on the specified path or disk”. But when I open up the files in the video folder on disk 2, everything is there.

I haven't had this exact issue, but I find that this process solves a lot of installation problems:

1. Create a new folder for the game in My Documents.

2. Insert disc 2 FIRST!

3. Copy all of the disc 2 files + paste them into the My Documents folder you just created, then wait for the operation to complete.

4. Insert disc 1 and install as normal, setting the installation path to the folder you created.

If I remember correctly, this should bypass the prompt the insert disc 2 at all - but if that isn't the case, try clicking straight through the prompt and/or inserting disc 2 anyway and see what happens.

Admittedly it's been a while since I've used this installation method so I can't 100% guarantee that all will go as planned 😅 but I figured it'd be worth a shot. If anyone has any corrections for me or other advice for op, please reblog & add on!

I gotta say out of all the creepy things that HeR has placed in the games, finding out that Jane was an imposter pretending to be Jane Willoughby really got under my skin. It was probably the creepiest and most unsettling thing to me. Idk why but it bothered me a lot when I first played it and still creeps me out today for some reason.

Anyone else have something from the games that genuinely unnerves you or creeps you out?

The atmosphere in SAW gets under my skin like no other- I don’t think there’s a single location in the entire game where I feel 100% comfortable

But yeah CLK seems like a lighthearted game until you really think about it

Dry Creek in SHA for sure, with the creepy music and Nancy’s acknowledgment that she is being watched

All of CUR. just. all of it

The woods in CAP, just because I always got lost and felt trapped and like something was going to pop out at any moment

Also anytime there is a distinctive portrait in the games, they’re just really unnerving. like Nancy’s weird nightmare during CUR, and the one time there was a portrait and the eyes would blink sometimes (I’m forgetting which game. was it CRY? GTH?)

Andy Jason going from the nerd who says, “Whales rule!” to the creepy guy trying to strangle the life out of Nancy really creeps me out.

Also that one puzzle from SAW that I made a meme about, the one where you’re locked in the room and there’s water dripping and stuff. I am never ready for that puzzle.

As a kid, I was always so unsettled by:

The tunnels between the Hot Kettle Cafe and the lighthouse (DDI)

The bottom level of the Mayan Pyramid (SSH)

The freaking woods at night!! (DOG)

And yeah, all of CUR

I was terrified of CUR.

I’ve played it so many times yet I still panic whenever Ethel pops up.

Whenever that fast violin music plays I freak out

I actually hate it when everyone goes to sleep because that creepy violin music plays

Whenever I walk in the underground section I slow down to prepare myself for the devil face

I tense up every time Nancy goes to sleep or opens her door because I think the nightmares and lady in black is going to appear

I have been thinking about this post a lot, since I read it yesterday, and I have to say…the music…the relics…the characters…the atmosphere of Secret of the Scarlet Hand has always felt ominous to me. I find the whole game unnerving. I think it’s because the violent and dark lifestyle the Mayan people actually lived—their history isn’t fantasy or a ghost story. Also, museums have such a quirky aura to them, to begin with. Addionally, I feel especially lonely as Nancy in this game, for some reason…none of the charterers feel safe to be around (except maybe for Henrik, when he’s in the hospital). None of the locations comfort me.

BUT BEYOND ALL THAT—MY GOSH. The climax of SSH really bothered me. It still does! Even though I know what’s going to happen, it scares me. I have a panic attack at that point in the game! Just talking about it creeps me out, even now. I was initially super shocked that HeR locked Nancy in a such small space, basically a coffin, with a DEAD BODY. Right in her face, in fact! Not only is the monolith interior very claustrophobia inducing—the whole premise is pretty sick. Knowing you’re going to die the same way The Whisperer did and you will also become a scared corpse, is beyond creepy. I always found this strikingly dark for a Nancy Drew game.

I know this isn’t the only time you’re in a dark place with a cadaver (TRN, TMB, etc.), but this time is just different. Even after I beat the game, the ending is just plain bizarre. I’m left with a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. I don’t feel that way with the other games. Anyways. Yeah. SSH just hits different and freaks me out. Sorry for the dissertation. But the more I think about this game, the more I have to say. I still got love for it, though!
