much like the rest of sck's cast, jake rogers is more of a paper-thin sketch than a fully-realized character, but ... i kind of love him? i think one of the best things the remake did was retcon the little hidden messages into part of his master plan. there's something compelling about a high schooler planning so carefully for his own death while also feeling so stupidly confident it won't happen ... and then violently dying due to his own overconfidence ... which itself justifies all the planning and paranoia that he thought would never have to justify. jake was, explicitly, textually, not as smart as he thought he was. but you still play the whole game feeling like he's leading you around by the nose, making fun of you for being two steps behind.

Rewatching @Arglefumph walkthrough of Secret of the Old Clock, spoilers ahead!

In response to this ongoing argument that “Nancy Drew Games aren’t political” bs, a huge plot point of CLK is that Josiah cross dressed frequently- once as Emily’s great aunt Harriet (and so well that Emily didn’t know it was him), and another time (often) as Clara to go to the bank and flirt with Jim Archer. Either he was doing it to fuck with Jim and just drop clues as to how to find his will, or he was doing it as a way to be able to explore his gender and sexuality. Either way it doesn’t feel cis het to me!

ace asked nancy out and fumbled so hard he fell into a deep depression and turned sepia on lucy’s lawn. lucy came out and started yelling at him about how much she loves the sea, which i can only assume is her way of saying “ah yes, i too once got so depressed i turned stormy and desaturated. have you tried jumping into the ocean about it?” that’s fucked up lucy. but also ace moping around eventually got on my nerves so much that i kinda get it.

george decided to ask ace to be roomies and ace, recycling his canon line to nancy about having the same brain, said yes. even wearing the same shirt, ace???

and then immediately started washing the dishes

nancy and lucy did what must be morse code at each other

lucy finally got to tell ryan about their baby

kate and carson met and instantly hit it off (with lucy looking on probably daydreaming about how nice it’d be to have them as parents)
