The Past (2013), dir. Asghar Farhadi
I prefer to talk about the present, the past is gone.

Parentification
Parentification is the process of role reversal whereby the child acts as the parent of their parent. Parentified children are (implicitly or explicitly) given the task of fulfilling the psychological or physical needs of the parent or their siblings for an extended period of time. Thus, taking care of a parent while they are temporarily ill does not count as parentification, but dressing your younger sibling every day does. Emotional parentification especially is often overlooked. When a child has to act as the âbest friendâ or âsurrogate spouseâ of a parent â for example, by giving the parent advice about marital troubles or listening to their complaining about their life or worrying about money â this is parentification. The child is not allowed to be a child and is instead forced to give emotional support to their parent. Children often feel proud of being 'responsibleâ or 'their parentâs best friend,â but parentification can have lasting effects: because they are forced to grow up too quickly and had to carry the weight of emotional responsibility that they werenât yet ready to, parentified children often feel overly responsible and have trouble forming lasting relationships. Because they had to take care of their parents, they are often eager to please their parents, putting their needs above their own. Â Â
always a tough lesson to learn
Happy Blackout everyone, never stop celebrating your blackness
Read my lips: people arenât exactly scared because trumpâs presidency will pass laws that will threaten their safety. Theyâre scared because the people who Trumpâs presidency empowers will, and have, come out of their ugly shells and vandalize things, harass and hurt them, make their lives worse. Kill them. Those people will use Trumpâs position as president to give them the drive and courage to act on their ugly beliefs.
Thatâs a real, adult fear.
Tonight, I have had to sit and listen to privileged people try to tell me and others that a trump presidency wonât be all that bad because he wonât be able to pass anything.
His hate rhetoric went in one ear and out the other. They look at hate crimes and KKK and neonazi rallies and violence against women and turn the other way. It doesnât affect them, so they think that it shouldnât matter to us.
âBigots have always been around you, why are you so worried that one is in office? Thatâs just the Republican party for you.â
There are DEMOCRATS who peddle that statement. Thatâs unreal.
Of fucking course
In 2016, 14 states will have new voting restrictions in place for the first time in a presidential election. The new laws range from strict photo ID requirements to early voting cutbacks to registration restrictions. Those 14 states are: Alabama, Arizona, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin. This is part of a broader movement to curtail voting rights, which began after the 2010 election, when state lawmakers nationwide started introducing hundreds of harsh measures making it harder to vote.Overall, 20 states have new restrictions in effect since the 2010 midterm election. Since 2010, a total of 10 states have more restrictive voter ID laws in place (and six states have strict photo ID requirements) seven have laws making it harder for citizens to register, six cut back on early voting days and hours, and three made it harder to restore voting rights for people with past criminal convictions.
exhausted by how much america hates women
bc thats what it is. no one wanted to like her, no one wanted to trust her. people who supported her kept having to add the disclaimer that they didnât really want her in power, she was just the ~lesser of two evils~Â
the republican smear campaign against her worked bc people love to hate women
and it doesnt matter how good they are at what they do. doesnt matter that sheâs the most competent person to run for president maybe ever. ppl would rather see a dangerous, unstable, bigoted lunatic in the white house than a woman. ppl who voted for bernie would rather switch their support to gary johnson â whose platform is much closer to trumpâs than it is to bernieâs â than support the woman who beat their old white fav. trump is winning bc heâs running against a woman, and the misogynist masses would give literally anyone but her the win
this is so funny because i, personally, am exhausted by how much white women love to claim the victim narrative. wake up, girl. itâs black women who are driving the gender gap against trump⌠white women are voting him in by a majority (:Â
no person of colour gives a shit about whether or not hillary is or was likableâmany of us voted for her despite disliking her because we were scared shitless of the other option. it is genuinely shocking to me that you would implicate black and latino men in this when it was white people all along.Â
it wasnât about the republican smear campaign against herâit was the racism and bigotry donald trump campaigned with that appealed to white voters.
get this into your head: it wasnât about her being a woman except peripherally. it was about race. white voters werenât voting against clintonâthey were voting for trump, for racism, for the deportation of muslims and latinxs. sear this chart into your little eyeballs and TAKE SOME FUCKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT.Â
