Muppet Fact #1864

In the late 1980s, early 1990s, Emily Perl Kingsley, writer for Sesame Street, had written a parody of "Everything's Coming Up Roses" from the 1959 musical Gypsy titled "Everything's Coming Up Noses." Kingsley was inspired to do so as her friend and actress Tyne Daly was in the revival at the time.

However, when Daly told Jule Styne, the writer of the original music for Gypsy, about this he was "outraged that somebody was making fun of his song and couldn’t see the humor in it." As such, it never came to fruition that Tyne Daly would perform the song on the show.

In the end, however, it was Harvey Fierstein who ended up singing the song for an episode of Sesame Street in 2004.
