♡ it's the simple things that help him remember. you spending lazy time laying with him in bed before the golden sun creeps up the sky. the soft graze of your fingertips against his scalp, the quiet drone of your half-asleep breaths. the times you'd bring home warm food from his favorite joint, other times where you'd ask him about his day and quiz him in the lovely little ways you did. give me a lowlight. give me a highlight. did you do something for yourself today? something future you would be thankful for? why not? i know you're tired. come watch tv with me. the smallest little moments like these ones remind him what all this could amount to.

♡ there's more than a starved man in there. more than a zombie who stumbles through life in a clouded daze--there's a person who's soft and willing to be loved. it had been difficult to rip down his walls--they seemed impenetrable when you'd first met him. so many wasted attempts at coffee or a walk in the local park. i can't. i'm busy. i'm working overtime that day. god, why couldn't he just let you in?
