I feel a perpetual deep-seated alienation from most people in academia because everyone behaves like cops and hall monitors, and then I log onto tumblr to see the exact people who do the alienating posting about how emotionally difficult it is for them to report students for (possibly) using AI to write an assignment Â
wishing hell was real so people like this could be sent there
Thoughts on the whole Cockroach Janta Party thing? I think they’re either gonna fizzle out or become just another party. Their main base seems to be students who are annoyed that India’s bureaucracy working so badly threatens their chance to enter/remain in the ‘middle class’
bestie it can be so much worse. this is the same as bangladesh and nepal protests in form: young people who are dissatisfied with the machine doing their first politics and their self appointed leaders are craven social media influencers. which means unfortunately the movement slide along with whoever does reaction best, also known as already existing bhartiya janta party. bangladesh has already speedrun the muslim nationalism and retvrn for pre 1971 nostalgia. the nepali pm first came to fame for doing homeless sweeps.
like the end goal of the jan lokpal movement in 2011 was anti corruption through specific judicial processes powered by technocracy. it insisted that anti system politics meant you didn't have to care about religion and caste unlike all those mainstream politicians. what it achieved was the toppling of secular politics and the marginalisation of caste issues in service of the economy to be replaced instead by the hindu rashtra. sure it created a new national political party in less than 10 years but in delhi that party deploys the technologies of bureaucratic efficiency in demolishing "illegal" houses of the poor and the muslim and india's densest facial recognition system.
its unfortunate that cockroach janta party was better when it was just a meme instead of an explicit movement but tbf it was satire crafted by an ex-AAP political strategist so.

cjp protest is essentially indias no kings protest. sonam wangchuk being its face says everything about it. any movement which leaves our most vulnerable out like kashmiri people - their interests are the first to be traded off - doesnt hold any legitimacy for me. call me an armchair activist for all i care i will not participate in this charade

oh this has really put me on the spot cause i dont watch a lot of movies 😠but i will try anon!
india is very regionally diverse, with a lot of states having their own regional movie industries. i am from the north so i usually watch movies made in the hindi language - but i will include a couple of movies in other languages ive enjoyed too.
disclaimer: i am not adding the standard movies of every bollywood rec list altho i do endorse it - all shahrukh movies are always enjoyable to watch. these are ones that i personally like a lot!
one of my all time favourite movies is rajnigandha - a very bittersweet film about a woman who is in a stable relationship but has a chance encounter with her first love again. can be found on youtube!
another alok palekar vidya sinha movie i enjoy is choti si baat, which is quite a fun watch. can be found on youtube too!
i honestly just enjoy frivolous fun movies - this one is a childhood favourite, called Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya. quite fun! and sushmita sen looks absolutely beautiful which is an added bonus
one of my favourite actors is dulquer salman - you can check out most of his work but the ones ive enjoyed the most are Varane Avashyamund (netflix) and Ustaad Hotel. (jio hotstar) - both are in malayalam
last recommendation at the top of my head would be Haider, which is an adaptation of Hamlet set in Indian Occupied Kashmir. highly recommend this one. Can be found on Netflix!

I love the whole 30 is the new 21 trend like yes queen so true. Your 30s are not for having children and settling down. They are for traveling, building your career, and going to the CLUB. Freeze ur eggs if u must I don’t care. Any 30 something year old woman who’s choosing to enjoy her newfound financial stability and not spend it in an unhappy marriage has my wholehearted stamp of approval.
