Bring her home

We loved each other like sisters when we rode the Eurasian steppe together. I held you and dried your tears beneath your father's kurgan and then you left me for the Indus river valley. All I knew to do was ride until I stopped crying. It took me all the way to central Europe and now I've buried the fathers of the Corded Ware Culture in shallow graves and the sons and daughters wear a yoke of Proto Indo-European bronze, but I know all the thralls and head of cattle in the world will never bring you back to me. My love, have you built the great city of Mahenjo-daro? Are you raising her walls higher? Are you bringing in the grain-grass harvest and digging the water-ways deeper and building magnificent crafts of bronze and gold? Will I ever see you again? Are you happy, are you healthy? My wails bring no answer, but we sleep beneath the same moon and stars and you call them by the same name, and the same sky-father horse-god smiles upon us from a world apart.

so im starting to see this idea come up more and more and i gotta say something about it.

no. i don't think hoyoverse changed columbina's character and no, i don't think she was rewrriten to fix the story

heres why i think that.

because what character did she have prior to nod krai? what character did she have in her one pre Nod Krai promotion art apperance?

she didn't.

some of ya'll are conflating the fanon interpretation of what you thought she should've been versus what we actually got. wouldn't be the first time that's happened either.

now these are all opinions. i love the direction they took with bina and the nod krai story over all but i think some of ya'll were putting to much faith into a character that never really existed.

now just because i say that doesn't mean i didn't like unerving, eerie, biblically accurate angel bina. i will miss those arts as well but some of you are just gonna have to accept that that version of her never existed (cannon wise at least, lol canon).

and yes, she does have paraells to lucifer, a famous angel, in her trailer but i think that's supposed to symbolize how she's never felt belonged anywhere (the frostmoon scions and the fatui) AND shes been cast from the only home she knows; her moon was locked behind the fake sky, being actively rejected by Teyvat, and almost ceased to exist if it wasn't for our intervention which eventually lead to her finally receiving her proper power.

the three pairs of wings on the back of her hair obviously give angel vibes, which I do think was always on purpose. seraphims, the six winged angels, are usually considered to be the highest of all angels, only surpassed by the holy trinity and god.

and the pattern of her eye cover does look like the seelie court

doves symbolzie purity and peace and go multiple ways with columbina. her name is literally dove ('little dove' in ilatian). there is a dove in both her fatui symbol and constellation.

she never saw purity in the world that rejected her, a world that to her was built on falsehoods and lies (pretty sure thats a direct quote from her too) but she also represents an aspect of teyvat that hasn't really been uspered directly by the heavenly principles. she's the first god character who isn't an archon, who wasn't put into power by proxy through celestia and she commands magic not controleld by them either.

so she's 'pure' in that aspect as well.

doves also have heavy symbolism with jesus, the holy spirit and the trinity in Christianity which works even more so for columbina since after true moon, she is the tri-lunar goddess. the new represenative of the old three moon sisters.

and, i will say that just because she wasn't intended to be a moon goddess doesn't mean they still can't keep the angel motiffs. maybe the original intention was for the moon goddess to be angels before they tweaked it. but thats a theory and we'll never know the original intent of bina's character because none of us are hoyoverse game devs.

and thats okay.

and, i will say, i am happy to see that the arlebina ship persists (and now it's alrecchino whose the eldritch horror lol)
