Did you read anything that *I* said? When did I say that you said the video is propaganda? You are instead saying the exact same things I criticized. Why do you believe you, self-admittedly white, knows better about china than a Chinese person? You will quickly find most if not all actual Chinese sources you find will be pretty clearly pro the ccp, even as they criticize parts of it that they find lacking. Though I’m sure you will just dismiss these people as propaganda too; that the real suffering people are silenced within china’s borders. So you are always correct, you are always the expert on China, even when you speak entirely from the exterior. After all, the people in the interior would agree with you if only they weren’t trapped inside! Do you see? You are practicing Sinophobia by saying that china is oppressing its people to this extent, by saying the ccp is so inhumane. Do you not understand that ‘love the people, hate the government’ is a classic form of racism? Yes, there are flaws with the CCP, as there are flaws with any government. But you cannot be demonizing it to this extent. What I was criticizing was you pretending to be against Sinophobia while spewing openly Sinophobic sentiment. I never said you were malicious. You are not coming at this with intentional malice. You are just ignorant and self-righteous, which I find to be exponentially worse. You are using the video, which is pointing out a form of Sinophobia which is more insidious and perhaps less recognizable, as fuel to instead revert to your more overtly recognizable classic Sinophobia. I don’t believe that the fetishization makes it at all easier to swallow pro-Chinese narratives, because despite all of the ‘white boy shocks Chinese restaurant owners’ content, i have not seen a single person defending the actions of the ccp. The point of the video is that their engagement with china is shallow and aesthetic objectification. Literally how at all would that lead to them politically aligning themselves with the ccp. They engage only with the exotic Chinese aesthetic, which the government is very much not a part of. There are ten billion tiananmen jokes. There are ten billion social credit jokes. There has no push whatsoever towards a pro ccp narrative. All posts i have seen about ‘defecting to China’ feature people either engaging with surface level Chinese memes, or playacting jokingly participating in a exaggerated dystopian system because the joke is that they would rather go to the backwards nation of china, antithesis to the west, than stay in trump’s america. They are still very clear on the fact that they believe it is a dystopia. You are fighting ghosts. I falsely assumed you meant that the ‘Chinese time in my life’ memes were in part attributable to propaganda, because of the wording. But the mere fact that you believe that the ccp is insidious to this extent at all is what made me respond so aggressively, not that small point. I cannot stress enough that you are partaking in very plain and simple Sinophobia. You know nothing about the ccp. You have no right to criticize it without first actually finding unbiased sources. You are being sinophobic. I do not know how to say this any clearer. Unless you have consumed both sides of the news, as well as all angles of reporting, and understand the exact geopolitical forces at play here in reporting on Chinese news, don’t speak on issues you don’t inherently understand. Western news is very obviously biased against china. This is undeniable and clear. Think about why they might report the way they do. I will not disagree, there are many systematic issues with china. Racism is prevalent. But the way you speak of it makes it clear you flatten china just as much as the people criticized in the video. To you, Chinese people are convenient poor victims to be saved from their oppressors. You are fetishizing them just as much.
