Gordon admits that the kids have to testify in person and whilst their abusers won't be in the room, they're still afraid and reluctant. Batman was quiet for a long while before asking if he could sit in the courtroom. He won't interfere or anything that will jeopardise the case, he will just sit where the kids can see him? So they know they're going to be safe? And it works. Bats does it a few times and sometimes, if the kids or victims ask, they can have Nightwing or Robin or Batgirl or Spoiler or Red Robin, some kids even want Red Hood because he's bigger and tougher than the people that hurt them. You will never see the Bats arrive and after the trial is over, you won't find Batman or his Bats lingering. They simply appear and vanish.

they were just some guys. the whole point was that they were just some guys. they met in Eden. Aziraphale didn't like Crowley because he met him as an angel and saw the good in him. he met him as a demon on a random day that was the most important day in the beginning of the world because they both made it that way. they met and they quite simply hit it off. they kept meeting again and again because they sought each other out, not because some red string of fate twirled by god forced them together. two like-minded emissaries on earth. they liked each other from the start and neither felt bad about it at all. they both recognized that angels and demons were the same. they were equals. they challenged each other and grew together but also they were lazy bastards who didn't care about humans all that much. they cared about their earthly pleasures, like driving irresponsibly fast and hoarding treasures. they wanted to save the earth mostly for egoistical reasons, though humanity as a whole and as a concept had also grown dear to them. they were never more important than anyone else. they were not god's best or specialest little angels or grim-dark generals or leaders of armies or people called upon to make decisions on behalf of anyone. they weren't even good at what they were supposed to do, often consciously so. one was not better or smarter or more right than the other. they were some guys and they didn't give a fuck and they gave all the fucks and cared so much and they were truly, absolutely bastards worth knowing. their friendship and love story was so grand because it was not grand. they were supposed to be just some guys.

it should go without saying but apparently it needs to be said over and over and over again because every time i hear my mom tease my sister for playing wolfquest, every time i hear a teacher tease a kid for doodling, every time i hear a babysitter laugh at a kid explaining the plot of a show they like, it drives a fuckin stake through my heart because i was that kid once.

i was made fun of enough times by adults, by peers, for liking something and wanting to share it that i just. didn’t. anymore. 

dont fucking tease kids for liking things. even if you think its cringe. ESPECIALLY. if you think its cringe. because the way you speak and act towards them when they are sharing themselves with you STICKS and they will think of it years down the line.

I was a substitute teacher for a little while between grad schools, and one day I had a middle school math class for the morning. The work they were assigned wasn’t *especially* hard, and one little girl knocked it out in 20 minutes. She started drawing what was very obviously Sans Undertale, and when I noticed I wanted to be supportive, and had the following exchange:

“What’s that you’re drawing?”

*panicking* “It’s nothing, I’m sorry, I’ll put it away.”

“No it’s okay, I was just curious about it.”

“It’s nothing. I don’t want to get in trouble.”

“You’re not in trouble, I just thought it looked like a character from a video game I like.”

Her face *lit up* the second I gave her the smallest bit of approval. She started asking me if I’d heard of various AUs for Undertale, and I tried to follow along as she explained her favorites. I obviously had to keep an eye on the rest of the class, answering questions and helping with algebra, but each time I passed her desk she had more things to tell me.

Anyway, it was very cute, but also a little sad how obviously starved she was for someone kind to talk about her stories with. Kids deserve to have someone in their corner, and it takes no effort at all to smile and listen if they have something they want to share. Preserve the earnestness you want to see in the world.
