❛ many millennia ago, kalos was part of an empire called ydvraesia. history knows ydvraesia as the most powerful empire to ever exist — led by ceraeion the great, almost all of the known world fell under his command. in the wake of his sudden death, his grand empire tore itself apart. but, his influence lingered. ❜ how odd, had lysandre never looked into that? ❛ 𐎡𐎾𐎡 𐎲𐎠𐎾𐎬𐎰𐎡𐎶𐎡𐎯𐎷𐎰𐎢𐎰𐎡 roughly translates from ydvraesian as ‘the dead will outnumber the living’. is that not what your intent was with your garden of death? ❜

❛ ... my brother’s bloodline seems to have lost some wit, or perhaps creativity. perhaps pick a different phrase? something like 𐎡𐎾𐎡 𐎲𐎠𐎾𐎬𐎰𐎡𐎶𐎡𐎯𐎷𐎰𐎢𐎰𐎡? ❜ no, adaliz, that’s not it at all. you were just born 6000 years ago, so no one really thinks the way you do anymore. your idea comes from a dead language.

Last episode of Generations. I’ll miss this miniseries:

Opening up with them celebrating the new Champion, and AZ’s arrival on-screen, passing by a little girl and her mother who are watching the parade:

The girl recognizes the towering figure as the king from 3000 years ago, and AZ heads up to the stage, requesting a battle from Calem:

It’s then we get an animated version of the tale from 3000 years ago::

“Once a man had a Pokemon he loved very much.”

“An age of war had begun.”

“During the fierce fighting, his dear Pokemon was sent to the battlefield…”

“Several years later…”

“He was given a tiny box.”

“No matter what it took, he wanted to bring his Pokemon back.So he built a machine to give it life.”

“And brought back his beloved Pokemon.”

“The Pokemon lived again, through the power of eternal life.”

“However, the man had suffered too much, and his rage had not subsided…”

“He could not forgive the world that had hurt the Pokemon he loved.”

“And so he took the machine and turned it into the Ultimate Weapon.”

(Ok, I’m trying to not really do much of my own commentary, but that shot of the Ultimate Weapon is beautiful.)

“The man became a bringer of destruction…”

“And he ended the war.”

“But the Pokemon that was given life must have known…that the lives of many Pokemon were taken to restore its life.”

“The Pokemon that had returned to life left the man.”

“Now, he continues to wander eternally, still searching for his Pokemon.”

Meanwhile, as the mother finishes recounting the tale, we see that the battle between Calem and AZ has wrapped up:

the harmonia kings ( counting adaliz + his brother yvon , also idraeil [tev’s twin] ) but described using anything but pokemon media : 

ardyn and somnus roleswap au , 

book of foetus episode of dantalian but make the mythic book owner a dude and make way more golems , 

ardyn and somnus 2 electric boogaloo but they aren’t roleswapped , 

casper the friendly ghost but replace a lot of that with anxiety , 

guillermo del toro now make him a dragon , 

envy from fmab but make him the bewilderbeast from httyd2 , 

prince adam , 

garon , 

ardyn but if verstael never gaslit him , 

groundhog day loop but its 30 lifetimes instead of 1 day ,

theres a post somewhere on tumblr about how in ffxv , somnus makes a better king than ardyn . & the explanation was “the gods were supposed to choose the best king , not the best person” . this is essentially the issue with adaliz & yvon . 

adaliz was not only the rightful king by birth order , but the gods considered him the rightful king because he has the qualities to be a king . like somnus lucis caelum , he has charisma , he had the trust of the military , he could make the hard choices necessary for a king to make . things like making sacrifices for the greater good . for the benefit of the future . did this make adaliz the best person ? no . his pragmatic nature made the commonfolk feel like they couldn’t relate to him . he was the sun , brilliant & burning . 

but , yvon was soulful & kind . yvon’s bond was with latias — the first one , as there were others in the future . latias responds to emotions . to kindness . of the two brothers , most people would immediately jump into yvon’s arms if they had to choose between them . but much as ardyn lucis caelum was a saint , his kindness made him ineffective . yvon wouldn’t be able to make the hard choices . he also didn’t want to be king . 

so , why did adaliz literally destroy kalos if his brother didn’t want to have the throne ? when he knew the gods chose him , that he was the true king ? well , adaliz didn’t really know how to trust all of that 100% . so he knew , but did he believe it all ? no . that , & adaliz’ patron , solgaleo , wasn’t always around ( although , historians say that the white pyroar was an extension of solgaleo , this wasn’t a total lie , but he only became an extension later ) . but yvon had latias around all the time . 

that , & the ‘ saint of kalos ’ , scion yrisviel , favored yvon in general as a person . she didn’t think he was meant to be king , she fought for adaliz to be king , but she still otherwise favored yvon . so adaliz ended up jealous . that jealousy turned into hate & led to the greatest tragedy in the history of kalos . 

now , while adaliz 6500 years later has no interest in being king ( that & kalos stopped functioning like that after the death of queen roshni & her abdication of power to diantha ) , but he still very much possesses the qualities of a king , so uhh that’s that . if he had to be , he would still be “the true king , king of kings” in kalos so thanks for coming to my tedtalk

for adaliz , the issue is 2 gods got really MAD . he is immortal because xerneas’ punishment was to deny him an end of life . he is basically indestructible because yveltal’s punishment was that he would always be the person who had torn kalos apart , which resulted yeah in . eternal life , not really aging , unnatural healing , & a lot of ptsd & depression . 

adaliz calls kalos his ‘ death garden ’ because what was left in the wake of the weapon was the bodies of the dead & blooming flowers . from the really messed up combo of xerneas & yveltal’s powers , adaliz has never forgotten that . he has never forgotten how he then used his own power to burn the bodies of the dead , to bury the majority of the crystals that he’d used to fuel the weapon ( the ones left look like giant stones , but once were of a beautiful , blood red luster ) . 

using it with only xerneas would likely cause petrification . using it with only yveltal would make the targets disintegrate , & both are awful , but to re create the garden of death ( why would you want that ) , both gods need to fuel it ...

I GOTTA FIX SOME TIMELINE SHIT WHOOPS SO UH

THE GREAT WAR OF KALOS , 4450 - 4440 BCE

& some other things ( part 1 of ? ) 

known as kalos’ greatest tragedy . this event is often mistaken for other events such as the war of truth & ideals ( 2500 - 2430 BCE ) & the darkest day ( c. 20,000 BCE ) . clearly , it is neither of these , as the darkest day happened more than 20,000 years ago , the war of truth & ideals lasted 70 years . the great war of kalos only lasted 10 years ... of actual fighting , but conflict began in 4453 BCE , so really in the end it’s a grand total of 13 years . still , historians make mistakes . 

as adaliz was the older ‘ twin ’ , he was blessed with the power from the gods . for reference, his mother was ‘ the hero of arceus ’ , who held the blessings of all the gods at the time she became pregnant . when i say twin , i mean adaliz & his brother yvon share a father , but they do NOT share a mother . since the king had a queen & a lover , & essentially it was a nice polyamory , no one really cared in the time ... but also no one knew which son came from which mother . while adaliz had the divine blessing , yvon was still a friend of the gods . he was often visited by latias , but solgaleo didn’t often visit adaliz , & even the boys had no idea who had which mother . 

the war’s beginning boils down to adaliz’ pride & jealousy . & the mess it caused made kalos into ‘ the garden of death ’ . when he built the great weapon , its main purpose was not actually to revive floette , its main purpose was to KILL HIS BROTHER . & he did fire it on his brother . he did not , however , manage to kill his brother . he & his brother both were hit with the immortality . adaliz & yvon hated each other for a while ( yvon evoked the ancient evil that resulted in the harmonia family curse ) , but adaliz still gave the throne to his brother when he ... well ... left for unova . 

over time , the two brothers hated each other less . in the end , they would only really have each other . history , due to mistaking the war of kalos for other events , sorta . doesn’t really have concrete evidence for either brother even EXISTING really ( hence a total lack of a portrait of adaliz for about 4000 years ) . 

there will be more about the war later , but for now this is it thanks for coming to my tedtalk .

guys adaliz might look like he’s u kno . an old dude in rags but yo he got hit with immortality at age 35 where he was fighting in a WAR & also he’d just built a mASSIVE WEAPON none of that looks like it was light material ,,, dude’s a slab of beef & physically could end u & not just because he’s tall as shit ??? & i think about this . a lot . 

also i think about like . why would he Continue to Age if he was hit with immortality & even 3000 years later ... so he’s gotta be doing some Illusions there u kno . bc that’s not how aging works ....

ok a history of what the heck adaliz’s timeline even is & it’s messy , but in bulletpoints . 

c. 4475 BCE - adaliz reyer is born ( so is yvon ) . kalos is under the control of the empire of ydvraesia . 

at about the age of 18 ( 4457 BCE ), adaliz becomes king of kalos . 

the great war of kalos happens from 4450 - 4440 BCE . the war ends when adaliz is 35 . he will be 35 for eternity now :( yvon curses his brother ... & thus his brother’s bloodline . floette is revived ??? 

adaliz abdicates the throne to yvon ( ??? what is this an apology ) & leaves kalos for the kingdom of the earth (unova) where like 40 years later he meets dorothea harmonia , who he falls head over heels in love with . he marries & takes her surname , becoming adaliz harmonia . 

romaya harmonia is born in 4388 BCE , adaliz is chronologically 87 , but lol he’s still 35

dorothea dies in 4385 BCE , the harmonia curse passes to romaya .

by the time romaya’s reign begins in like 4258 BCE , adaliz has begun his worldly travels . 

tevrien & idraeil harmonia are born c. 2700 BCE . 

the war of truth & ideals begins around 2500 BCE. 

the war of truth & ideals ends in 2431 BCE . tevrien becomes king of the kingdom of the earth ( unova ) . adaliz hears about this great tragedy . this event is often mistaken for the great war of kalos . 

c. 1524 BCE , floette realizes how she was revived & she leaves adaliz & he falls into a big depression . 

c. 900 CE , adaliz ends up having a portrait painted despite being uh . not king anymore & the painter doesn’t know who he is . soon after he starts using his abilities to disguise himself as an old man 

2000 , the weapon is discovered in kalos . 

2014 , lysandre causes shit . floette finally comes back . 

as you can see there’s a massive time gap in there , but honestly thats the basics ???
