STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION (1987-1994) S04E21 | The Drumhead
i think tuvok and janeways friendship is done very well and itâs a really good example of a friendship between a man and a woman where youâre never like âbut they have romantic feelings for each other right?â because they love each other so so much but itâs completely platonic and familial and even when janeway takes tuvoks hand and is like âi already have a manâ you KNOW sheâs joking and TUVOK knows sheâs joking
i love them so much and i really donât talk about them enough because thereâs just such a good dynamic between them

Star Trek: the search for the only braincell on board
(Credit to parks and rec)
Janeway: (points to Voyagerâs one dedicated coffee maker- which is now broken) ...So. Who broke it?
Senior Officers: ...
Janeway: Iâm not mad. I just want to know.
Senior Officers: ...
Chakotay: ...I did. I broke it, Kath-
Janeway: No. No you didnât. Mr. Paris?
Tom: Donât look at me. Look at the Doc.
Doctor: What?! I didnât break it. Iâm a hologram- I have no need for coffee.
Tom: Huh. Thatâs weird. Howâd you even know it was broken?
Doctor: Because itâs sitting right in front of us and itâs broken.
Tom: Suspicious.
Doctor: No, itâs not!
Neelix: Um. I-if it matters- probably not- but Seven was the last one to use it-
Seven: Liar! I donât even drink that crap!
Harry: Oh really? Then what were you doing by the coffee cart earlier? I saw you, too!
Seven: I use the wooden stirrers to push back my cuticles- everyone knows that, Ensign.
Chakotay: Ok, ok. Letâs not fight. I broke it, let me use my rations to replicate another one, Kathryn.
Janeway: No. Who broke it?!
Senior Officers: ...
Doctor: (leans forward, whispers) ...Um, Captain? BâElannaâs been awfully quiet-
BâElanna: REALLY?!
Doctor: Yeah! Really! Now, I-
(All senior officers start arguing as Chakotay tries to stop the chaos)
Janeway: (aside) I broke it. I burned my hand so I shot it with my phaser. I never really cared about that thing anyway- replicated coffee is better than anything Neelix ever brewed. (Chaos behind her intensifies) I predict ten minutes from now Tuvok will have to send in a security detail and confine them all to quarters. (Glances over her shoulder. Smiles.) Good. It was getting a little too chummy for life out here in the Delta Quadrant.
Janeway: ...
Janeway: (narrows eyes) Iâll have to have a little chat with Seven about insulting coffee like that.
George Takei was so excited to do this shirtless episode. He spent all his free time doing push-ups for a week before they shot this.
they were going to give him a katana and have him be a samurai, but he didnât want to be stereotypical, so he told the execs that he could fence and they wrote in references to the three musketeers instead
he could not, in fact, fence
he spent the weekend before shooting learning how
Not only that, but he found he liked fencing, kept it up, and became a master fencer.
When I had the privilege to hear him talk at AwesomeCon 2015, he informed us he is a master fencer. It was a very clear implication that he is still fencing at his advanced age. No wonder heâs so healthy.
He had far too much fun with this episode and it shows.
Hikaru Sulu, our first Space Pirate.
Reblogging for all this cool trivia
And also for George Takei running through the Starship Enterprise with a sword and cackling sinisterly
Reblogging for ALL of this, and for the coolness of George Takei still kicking butt with a sword to this day!
Reblog if you trust George Takei with a sword to protect you
âIn the end, [Takei] loved his sword-fighting scene so much he held onto the rapier for several hours, poking stage hands with it and engaging in mock duels off the set.â â IMDBâs trivia
This episode also has one of my favorite âI canât believe the censors missed that.â moments. Sulu comes up to the bridge and pushes Uhura behind him and exclaims âIâll protect you, fair maiden!â She just gives him this so-done-with-this look and says, âSorry, *neither*.â
