Yesterday I realised that 2 months ago I packed my bags in a rush, 4 hours before my plane was to departure, closed my bedroom door, squished into the car, hurried to the airport, checked in, said my final goodbyes, made it through security and managed to find my boarding gate and get on the right plane to be welcomed in Dubai for a mere 7 hour layover, no biggie.
2 months ago today I embarked on my biggest adventure yet; my new life started.
Needless to say I was pretty overwhelmed- I was all alone in one of the busiest airports in the world and running on literally 0 hours of sleep since I had been too excited to get some shut eye the final nights before my adventure started and my flight was filled with screaming babies, energy packed twin toddlers, turbulence and a nauseous man sitting next to me. Furthermore, my dreams were becoming reality…
The 7 hour layover was filled with me wandering around aimlessly, most probably looking like a zombie. I felt like I was too tired to function but after some Burgerking I had just enough energy to explore the airport. It felt more like a shopping centre to me with shops everywhere, luring everyone in. From Starbucks to Rolex to massive M&Ms to Dubai souvenirs, everything and anything could be found.
I spent the last 2 hours trying to sleep but kept on waking up every few minutes, too uncomfortable and even more scared that someone would steal my bags.
The 7 hours were finally over and I was overjoyed at the thought of getting some sleep on the next flight but no luck. Apparently I am incapable of sleeping on planes.
After traveling for over 24 hours and crossing half the globe I was overjoyed to finally find my sister at the airport.
We finally made it to my new home, a small town in Austria called Walchsee. As soon as we got to my room I collapsed on the bed and slept for 15 hours.
Since then 2 months have passed in which I’ve met some amazing, friendly people, gotten the hang of skiing again, learnt a bit more about the local cuisine like Knödel and although I still sometimes struggle with the Tiroler dialect I manage to fit “Passt” and “Servus” into my vocabulary.
I’ve had so much fun on my adventure and I’ve been wanting to put pen to paper or rather fingers to keyboard but I just never knew where to start and after realising that I’d been postponing for 2 months I decided that it was time to just go for it. Rather late than never, right?
I promise that I will be posting regularly from now on and let you in on all of my adventures.
