Dear Diary
I got to thinking tonight that if I could address my future/current partner about my mental illness, what would I say? Those of us with derma know how tricky it is to maintain relationships and intimacy because of the way we feel about ourselves. It’s a hard topic to discuss. When is the right time? When should we bring it up? Before or after they notice our uncanny obsession with our skin? And…

I'm back... sort of.
I’m back… sort of.
What do you do when you’ve reached the stage where your derma could pass for acne, or pimples, or bug bites or just generally shitty skin? Do you still tell people you have Dermatillomania? Welcome to my current conundrum. I mean obviously I still have it. Enough for people to still point out the scars and the scabs… but not so bad that I can’t pass it off as something else. Something everyday.…

For my next partner
I wanna watch you do everything you love to do. I want to witness the passion in your eyes when you talk about something you live for. I wanna witness the way you light up when you get to express yourself. Share all of it with me. Every short story, every poem, every brush stroke, run you learn, every lyric you write, every new dish you cook. I wanna hear, see and taste everything you have to offer.
So after months and months of hiding offline due to hitting a major picking low and having a major depressive episode (I was picking to the point of suicidal ideation) I have managed to get this disorder somewhat back under control. Not many sores left but OH THE SCARS!! So my mum just finished giving me a facial using microdermabrasion products. Mum was right when she told me that as I grew older my skin wouldn’t heal itself as quickly. My scars used to fade within days, now they take months to years to disappear which does not motivate me to refrain from skin picking. I’m almost 27 now (yikes!) and one of these days I’ll stop picking...
I’m not perfect and that’s ok. There’s no one I’d rather be than me. (Inspired by Wreck-It Ralph)
I'm Not Perfect... And That's OK!
I haven’t posted in a while. Purposefully. I guess I don’t really feel as though I have much to say. Much to share. I started this blog with the hope of encouraging myself, and others, to stop skin-picking. But I find the battle so overwhelming that I don’t know how to stop. I admit that I am in a much better place today than where I was just a few years ago. But I still pick. Daily.
I have sort…

Please stop telling me to stop.
TLC’s Six-Word Memoir contest has begun! What is your six-word story? (via tlcbfrb)
Love is more than three words mumbled before bedtime. Love is sustained by action, a pattern of devotion in things we do for each other every day.

In honor of the first day of BFRB Awareness Week, I made a powerpoint of an overview of Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs). Keep in mind that this is just an overview.
Check out CBSN and the work they are doing here!
Cannot believe a year has passed since the last BFRB Awareness Week... I'll have to hurry up and do my photo upload for this year's Awareness Poster campaign. Get involved by heading over to CBSN and filling out one of their posters here!
All I wish to do is touch you; by that I mean touch your heart in a way that will make you forget all the people who have reached for your body instead.

There's nothing wrong with sex, people.
- Having sex every day. - Saving sex for your wedding night. - Never having sex. - Having sex with different people. - Having sex with one person. - Having sex with a person of your same gender. - Loving sex. - Hating sex. - Being loud. - Being quiet.
The only thing wrong with sex?
When it’s not consensual.
Because that’s not sex. That’s rape.
this is so amazingly important
When you feel you have lost everything, you still have
books
unexpected kindness in strangers
the rest of the world to travel
languages to learn
animals to take care of
volunteer work to do
the power of a good night’s rest
the changing of seasons
infinite things to learn
billions of people to meet and possibly love
billions of people who might love you back
Things to live for <3
1. To have a friend we must be a friend. So, start by considering the type of friend you are to others. Ask yourself, are you kind, loyal, warm, understanding, sensitive, forgiving, helpful, reliable and so on?
2. Think about what you want in a friend. What kinds of traits are important to you?
3. Create opportunities to get to know others better. For example, go to parties and social events (and when you are there introduce yourself to others); invite others over to your house, or out to the cinema with you.
