Elliot Page also starred in Inception before transitioning, and from what I’ve heard is in The Odyssey for less than five minutes, so that’s a really weird example to use. Right from the jump we have the weirdly paternalistic framing that trans men should run tattoo ideas by their friends, insinuating that trans men innately have poor judgment. By singling out trans men as a demographic rather than just advising people get feedback on their tattoo ideas or stating that they think the tattoo in question is bad, OP implies that it is trans men specifically and no other demographic that deserve to be held to this level of scrutiny. And even if you stripped the weird gender wars bullshit away from the whole thing, there remains the fact that putting a stranger on blast over an innocuous tattoo is deeply weird and uhhh bullying? I don’t say this to be inflammatory. This is something I wholeheartedly believe because I see it myself all the time. Violence and transphobic rhetoric about transgender men is so normalized that it doesn’t even register to people and often gets repeated.

One of the most obnoxious examples of this is about once a month I see post/post cast clip/hear from someone irl that they think JK Rowling is an in denial trans man. They’ll take the quotes from her about how were she born in this generation, she would’ve been trans and that “the allure of escaping womanhood would have been too much to resist” and say she obviously a trans man.

But by believing this you haven’t discovered some secret of hers. Rowling quite literally wants you to believe she would’ve been trans to lend herself credence into the trans conversation. And you are agreeing with her and the TERFs that reason transmasculine people transition is because of internalized misogyny and peer pressure.

Why can you understand she’s a lying, manipulative demon when she speaks about trans women or trans people broadly, but take her and TERFs at their word when it comes to trans men? You are dangerously susceptible to propaganda and absolutely spineless.

Comments (or replies) have been around for a while, but they have always been tucked away from your regular feed, and so we're working on a few ways to integrate them into the rest of our experience.

Soon, blogs will have a Comments tab alongside Posts, Likes, and Following. There, you will be able to see posts other people have been commenting on, and, more importantly, find your own comments! This was not possible before, except through notifications if someone engaged with your comment.

We're also working on a way to surface posts commented on by people you follow in your feeds. You will be able to find those in the For You tab, and later, alongside chronological posts in the Following tab.

So, how do you identify those posts in the feeds? 

Replied posts will show a small preview right there in your dashboard, before you click anything.

One, are we all forgetting Elliot uses he/they pronouns? He likely is not a binary trans man. Maybe, they want to look a little androgynous, ever think of that??

Two, I thought we got over the "feminine is bad" things in the trans masc community. Apparently not! There's literally femboys, including ones who are trans. Transfem butches too. We're all for cis men being feminine and cis woman being masculine, but the moment a trans person tries to go against gener norms, it's a cardinal sin??!?? Hypocrites, everyone of you.

Three, some trans men can not physically transition, and some just don't want to. You are signaling to them that they aren't "good enough trans men" unless they, not just physically transition, but ensure to achieve a certain look from it that is "masculine enough." This is body shaming. You are body shaming. You are trying to patrol other human beings physical appearances based on what you think looks good. BODY. SHAMING. You are a bad person!

Four, these opinions seem really close to trying to invalidate trans people and force physical transition on trans people. As well as, frankly, completely disregarding the existence of anyone identifying as something other than binary man or binary woman. Putting men and women in their own little boxes, completely separate, with no room for any overlap or anything inbetween. Almost like you're saying Elliot is not masculine enough, even though he's obviously not very feminine either, and completely forgetting to use androgynous as the proper adjective to describe them... on purpose. Your comment sparked a question in me. I mean I have never read Page's book, never actually heard how they came out, and didn't really know much about him besides him being an actor who was a lesbian/gay then a trans person (and my mind assumed man, both bc of exorsexism and bc that's what everyone said he was despite the pronouns). So I looked on Libby, opened a sample of Pageboy, and searched man. And these two are just included in what I could access in the sample.

"I’d experienced this inquiry as a queer woman, but as a trans guy it’s perpetual. Code for—I don’t believe you." (I could argue this could be ambiguous, as many people use guy and person interchangeably...)

"Those were some of the best times of my life, traveling to another dimension where I was … me. And not just a boy but a man, a man who could fall in love and be loved back." (About them as a kid imagining romantic situations with a pretend girlfriend as a boy, a man.)

And arguably, which i don't think you mean to push, pronouns do not equal gender AND it's possible Page has multiple aspects of his gender he doesn't share with the public (like if he's multigender or fluid in anyway, though speculation about someone who can speak for themselves and has the language to do so irt that doesnt feel right on my part to do). I, myself, am a trans man who's primary pronouns are they/them along with he/him.

However, it is so common in any reference of Page for their pronouns to be disregarded. It's possible he's changed them since (idk I don't really follow along with his journey), but even when they explicitly wrote in their coming out post about using he/they, people referring to that overlook the they and default to he in all their articles - and by this, I mean when he first came out ( i feel like i didn't explain that well). So hard agree that people are being transphobic and generally disrespectful when ignoring some of his pronouns (side note: I wonder if they ever publicly specified how to use them).

Regardless, I really hate how shameful people are and were towards Page, especially once they started physically transitioning. So many (mainly transphobes... a lot I saw at the time were redfems /censored) claiming he looked sicker and worse off (I also think he had an ed at the time they were recovering from or trying to get help with?)

Yeah, I don't actively follow him as much as I would like. So it is completely possible they changed their pronouns or didn't but still identity as a binary trans man. That is why I said it is likely and that maybe he wants to appear androgynous. He also might not want too. We don't know and we don't need to. They aren't required to tell us anything about himself if they don't want to.

The point I was trying to make, is not whether he is non-binary or gender non-conforming at all, but that most people have simply ignored any possibility that he may be. Gender can be a fluid and wide concept. It's not set in stone, but many people treat it like it is and refuse to even allow for any possibility that someone may not identify as a binary man or woman. We should allow for and be open to new and other possibilities.

I can attempt and break it down but it's painful trying to read the nastiness so it'll be a brief thing. More the gist of what they're saying than going line by line:

1: "theyfabs" (slur against nonbinary persons assigned female at birth) are just pretending to be trans for attention and stealing resources away from "real" trans people that are suffering before all of them detransition and become "normal" (read: not trans) again, (because it's not possible for nonbinary people to actually be nonbinary if they dared to be born and have the doctor put an F on their birth certificate)
