Offerings for the Dead
Most people are reblogging an ask I answered long ago about offerings to give to the dead. It’s long overdue, but I’ve finally typed it up into an actual cohesive post.
~ Herbs ~
Lavender, for peace in passing on
Thyme, to give peace to those who have died from violence
Apple, a common Irish symbol for the dead, which I often give to my ancestors
Pomegranates, myth of Persephone and all that
Rosemary, for remembrance
Myrrh, commonly used in necromancy, also used to give off good vibes
Chervil, often used in rituals for the dead
Mugwort, usually used to aid divination and communication with the dead. I also give it as an offering
Bay, same as mugwort (my mentality is that these herbs will help “send” the offerings to the dead)
Lemonbalm, for peace and healing
Wormwood, to strengthen the communication with the dead, as well as healing and revenge
Frankincense, a traditional herb (usually incense) to honor the dead
~ Flowers ~
Calendula, for blessings and eternal love
Rose petals (or the flower) for love and healing
Marigolds, perfect for ancestor worship (as well as spirit work salves and tea)
Lilies, for a sense of security and togetherness; ideal for children
Orchids, for balanced emotions and adoration; ideal for former lovers
Daisies, also ideal for former lovers and lost family members
Tulips, to spread happiness
Dandelions, ideal for connecting with certain spirits (especially when drunk as a tea)
~ Liquids ~
Water, a traditional offering for the dead, often left out for passing spirits
Wine or other alcohol
Juice, namely pomegranate or beet
Oils, such as olive oil, pomegranate oil, coconut, almond, vinegar
~ Other ~
Stones or crystals
Coins
Tobacco (I also know some people who use cigarette smoke or ashes)
Grains, traditionally brown bread
Meat
Candles, namely dark colored or earth-toned
Cleaning up graveyards, placing offerings on graves and speaking to them also makes a great offering
Song and music
Anything personal to the person you’re sending the offering to
~ What to do with the Offerings ~
Burn herbs or flowers (safely) with a written message to “send” the offering to the soul
Leave coins, flowers or herbs on the grave
Pour liquid into the earth, or leave them out in a bowl
Leave offerings out as a “standing offering” for the dead who pass through (idea from @arachnospooky)
This is SO overdue I’m so sorry but I hope it helps!!
~10 Kinds Of Magical Books~
1. Book Of Shadows- A witch’s book of spells, rituals, personal feelings, etc. It is a general book for any metaphysical or religious information that you wish to put into it, among other things.
2.Bestiary- A sometimes hand-written encyclopedia or manual of mythological and magical creatures and beings, used for reference when you want to work with a non-human energy, or for general research.
3.Grimoire- Usually filled with tables and charts, lists relating to astrological, numerical, and color correspondences; properties of crystals, herbs, trees, etc. Contains moon phase meanings and medicinal properties of plants- This one has an old-timey textbook feel to it, usually.
4.Book Of Mirrors- a special journal, where you ‘reflect’ on things going on in your day to day life, providing deep insights which are invaluable when you’re doing work regarding personal growth. Very helpful with developing personal spiritual philosophies.
5.Book Of Moons- A book entirely relating to the moon and it’s cycles, names of the moons of each month, their attributes and energies, dates of lunar eclipses as well as full moon dates of upcoming moons. Filled with vast knowledge of lunar attributes and special dates of red moons, blue moons, etc.
6.Dream Journal- Here you record the dreams you have in as much detail as you can remember, and some people draw images from their dream adventures in this book as well, since dreams use the language of symbolism and imagery. You interpret the meanings of your dreams in here too, if you wish. Dreams can help us get a glimpse into our subconscious and the more dreams you write the easier it becomes for you to remember them.
7. Book of Visions- A vision book is used with the law of attraction, it is a ‘vision board’ in book form. Put different images of things you want in life, be they experiences, physical items, money, health, etc, in the pages of the book. Open the book up to pictures of what you want to visualize having. Think of this as an on-the-go vision board, except with much more space as there are so many pages!
8.Book Of Positive Aspects- At the top of each page you write the name of a topic that you are unhappy with, like ‘the workplace’ for example. Below the topic title you begin listing all the positive aspects of the subject, and by the end of your list your emotions will be in a much better place regarding the topic. You can do a list a day or many in one sitting, it is a valuable tool for cultivating positive energy or for switching viewpoints on things that normally would upset you.
9.Gratitude Journal- A book where you write about EVERYTHING you are thankful and appreciative for in your life right now. You feel overwhelmed with love and positivity when writing in this book, which aids you in raising your vibration and frequency.
10. Book Of Intuitions- a psychic journal, it’s a book where all divination and psychic exercises are recorded, ranging from full tarot spreads, to tea leaf readings, even psychic impressions you pick up off people. It’s handy for tracking progress as well as for record keeping.

hi! im always trying to learn more about tarot, but i keep coming across the same entry level tips and lessons. do you have any advice for more advanced or intermediate tarot readers?
Advanced Tarot Techniques
You come across tips for beginners because tips are generally for beginners. External sources, such as books and websites, are mostly meant for readers who are in the early stages of their journey. They are training wheels.
The moment you consider yourself intermediate, your growth should mainly be internal. That is, as you read for yourself, you discover new ways of how the cards manifest. And as others approach you with questions you have never been asked before, you develop new ways of seeking answers. That is how you mature as a reader.
Here are methods and findings I uncovered for myself back when I was intermediate and further enhanced once I was advanced:

Home Protection Steam Spell
There was some crime activity in my neighborhood, so I performed this to make me feel safe and protected. ❤️ (As a witchling, I am still new to spell writing, and am open to tips!)
Ingredients
⚔️ Cinnamon: I use three sticks and a tablespoon of ground cinnamon for extra scent. ⚔️ Rosemary: Three sprigs or two tablespoons of dried rosemary (pictured). ⚔️ Pine: Three sprigs from my backyard tree. ⚔️ Sigil: I drew @wolf-scent’s home protection sigil on a bay leaf and used the steam to activate. I dry and keep the leaf on my altar after. 🌿
Method
✨ Put water in a pot or pan and on the stove and turn heat on high.
✨Add ingredients one at a time, focusing on intent with each one.
✨Let mixture come to a boil and begin to steam. I add my leaf at this time.
✨Visualize the steam spreading throughout the house, bringing protection. Can be a bubble or anything else - personally, I visualized the army of the dead from the Lord of the Rings rushing out to stand guard. ;)
✨LOWER the heat (don’t want to waste energy) to simmer, and you can allow the scent to fill your house for however long you wish. Add water as needed to not let the ingredients touch bottom of pot.

Save the Bees!
Guys, I just found the COOLEST resource.
The Chicago library just posted a bunch of old manuscripts online to get the public’s help with translation and transcription. One of these manuscripts was “The Book of Magical Charms”, an anonymous grimoire from 17th century England.
This is PURE CHRISTIAN WITCHERY. It’s got spirit conjurings, (use with care), sigils, (also use with care), spells and potions, (USE WITH CARE don’t be eating anything a 17th century manuscript says to eat without researching it first), prayers galore. Some of it is in Latin, but if you hit the translator tab, a bunch of people have already translated some significant chunks. Me myself will be digging out my Latin textbooks because I am THAT LEVEL OF NERD.
GO WILD GUYS, IT’S RIGHT HERE: http://publications.newberry.org/dig/rc-transcribe/charms

How to celebrate Autumn: Desert edition🌵
Personally to me, autumn is the most beautiful season. To many witches this time of year really can awaken the soul & spirit. But, not all witches live in vast forest or suburban areas with trees. If you live in the desert like me, (Sonoran Desert, Arizona), then you have to find the beauty of autumn in other ways. Seeings how the local cacti aren’t “dropping leaves” and the temperatures are still 85°-95° it can be hard to get into the spirit. So, here are some tips for my fellow desert witches!
🍂Get up early & enjoy dawn ☀️
Wake up and brew that tea! Embrace the morning. The best time to get that “fall feeling” is right at dawn. The nip from the desert night air meeting the warmth of the morning sun rays is indescribable. Nature at her most beautiful and serene really. It’s also a great opportunity as witches to charge whatever you’d like (water, crystals, spell jars, etc) to give an extra “kick” from the day’s first light.
🍂Go Hiking 🏃♀️
No, seriously. Go out on a hike. Whether it be by yourself or with friends, go out an enjoy the life around you. Some of the most beautiful scenes in a desert are during autumn months because the summer rains have left behind new foliage. Not to mention the beginning of migrant animals can be seen on your walks as well. Hiking is also a great way to realign yourself with nature. To recharge and give you a good “boost” in positive energy.
🍂Plant something new 🌱
This time of year for desert witches is great for planting new seedlings. Those precious flowers and herbs that died this summer? Try replanting them now. Mints, lavenders, berries, peppers, all sorts of plants can now flourish. With temperatures still warm during the day but short of freezing at night, even outdoor planting and gardening is perfect in autumn.
🍂Celebrate with local foods 🥐🍎
Anyone can eat pumpkin pie or have apple cider but fall for me means prickly pear and mesquite. Prickly pear is a fruit from Opuntia and it is heaven. It’s our pumpkin here in Arizona. It’s used in soups, candy, drinks, breads, etc. As well with mesquite trees, you can mill the pods that the trees drop in the fall and make flour with it. You know it’s fall when you sit fire side to mesquite wood burning with a nice tall glass of prickly pear cider. yum! 😉
-》If you have any more ideas or suggestions about how to celebrate Autumn feel free to add! Positive vibes and blessings witchlings 😉🔮
How do I practice desert witchcraft without living in the desert? I was born in the desert and feel much more spiritually connected to the heat and plants of where I was born. thank you!
The main components to me of desert witchcraft are the definitive flora, the sun/dry heat, and the winds.
There are plenty of desert plants you can grow in your own home, especially succulents like aloe vera and cacti. I’ve never attempted to grow creosote so I don’t know how well it would do but I’ve seen sites advertise creosote seeds for sale too. Probably other desert shrubs too; idk which desert you grew up in so that’d be something to research and seek out.
For me, solar magic is a large part of my craft. The sun’s energy fuels my spells. If you live in an area that lacks strong sunshine, I’d recommend assigning a stone to be a solar energy gatherer for you that you can harvest from every so often. This way you can get substantial solar energy still even if it takes a bit of extra time to gather enough.
The winds are also a strong force in the desert so you can also connect to the winds in your area and use them for spellwork. (I often use the winds for blessings to carry good energy all over the area.) You can also use harsher winds for cursing if that’s your jam.
If you connect to the animals of the desert you can easily get preserved bits of them via pelts, pinned insects, or bones. This way you could connect to their spirits if they’re still hanging around.
Hope this helps!
Before I moved here, I collected stones whenever I visited the southwest and used those. Make sure wherever you gather stones is ok with it, taking stones from national parks is illegal!!
Yule Time Rebirth Ornaments
What you'll need:
•Strips of paper
•Herbs, flowers, crystals
•Clear ornaments
•Anything else you want to add
To bless your and those around you's new year: write the individuals name on the slip of paper and put it into the ornament. Add in herbs, flowers, and crystals that correspond with what you'd like for them in the new year! Such as rosemary and tourmaline for protection. Say a blessing while hanging it up on your tree.
For a specific well wish do all of the above and add in an extra slip of paper. This extra slip of paper will have the well wish you provide; such as "less anxiety" or "a year of opportunity".
All the main holidays for ya witchy soul~ each have different goals and activities. Celebrating these holidays can give you an extra kick in all sorts of different spellwork ✨ which is your favorite? (Mines Samhain cause it’s the one holiday where I feel most comfortable being myself)
WITCHY DESIGNS STORE: https://www.redbubble.com/people/lavendulamoon?asc=u
I believe this spell is called “Fuck You I Am a Goddamn Witch and Don’t Have to Tolerate This Bullshit”.
Let’s see how well this plays out for the offenders.
oooooooh what’s it do?
I wanna know, too. It’s cool as fuck.
lol, may as well. I’m having some issues stemming from an old friend and their newest romance. So, I’m intervening. The candles stand for the both of them. Each stone is an issue that’s come between them that they’ve ignored. As my curse burns through each of them, each issue will be brought to the surface and drop to begin building a barrier between them. By the time it’s finished, I don’t expect them to be speaking any more.
*drools intensely at the magick*
My Mom, after having made the courageous decision to leave my incredibly controlling and abusive stepfather of 18 years, is saying she wants to get back together with him. If you don’t mind, I’ll be using this incredibly beautiful spell of yours.
I am flattered you like this spell enough to use it! And I hope I’m not incredibly late to let you know however that this (as I performed it) is NOT a guaranteed break up spell. If the targets are able to work through their issues as they bubble to the surface and truly care about each other, this spell would theoretically only make their relationship stronger. But that of course is why I love it, it was designed to be a relationship version of The Tower. :)
I remember thiiis
This just changed how I think about candles! 🕯💛🕯
