saw a post letting people know that your ao3 bookmarks are viewable on your account unless you make them private, which suggests that the median ao3 user does not use ao3 in what i will call 'the optimum fic-finding treadmill' where you find a fic author you like and look through their bookmarks to find more fics that are good and then look through that author's bookmarks for even more good fics. like a conga line of great but extremely specific tastes. or one of those chessboard rice doubling analogies and oh no that is a LOT of ao3 tabs.
i love this guy
Sure it is all about faithful adaptations right?
Nolan: I am going to create the most faithful adaptation of the Odyssey of all time!
Me: Oh my that's fantastic! Are you telling me that we are going to finally see the amazing bronze age or early iron age armors, the intricate clothing and the colors and the plumes and...
Nolan: Ppfft! Don't be ridiculous! Actually we did consider that Greek guy that made historical armors but it doesn't matter. We'll just have the same generic designs of armor from Hollywood the past 20 or so years no problem.
Me: But...you said...okay at least we will have Greek actors? You know actually represent the people of the epic poem? Give visibility to them and all?
Nolan: Of course not! Why would I do that? I casted the usual crew that is trending on social media. They are good actors of course!
Me: Oh gosh...will they at least...you know...look like they belong there?
Nolan: Nope. My goal is my film to look like the average day in NY city square! I MIGHT consider some Greek actors...I guess! Maybe...
Me: But?
Nolan: But most likely some random background character that no one will ever see I guess! I mean we still need extras that no one will ever see right?
Me: *wince* But...w-why...I thought... Okay you know what never-mind. Will they at least represent accurately the Mediterranean sea?
Nolan: Meh...I guess...some of it. I mean I despise CGI so if it doesn't look exactly like that well...we will have to cope
Me: But...the Mediterranean is a real region...you can just... Alright please tell me that you will at least follow the plot you know...monsters and gods etc..
Nolan: Of course! Can you have the Odyssey without monsters?
Me: Okay...phew...
Nolan: Buuuuut no gods.
Me: ... excuse me...no gods?
Nolan: But...gods are not real right? I want my film to be realistic!
Me: I thought you said "faithful"...
Nolan: Nope I sure didn't.
Me: So...cyclops is fine...but gods are not...? And that is both "realistic" AND "faithful"...?
Nolan: Oh I ain't removing them completely! They will be like dreams and games of the consciousness of Odysseus! Especially Athena. To teach him a lesson to have faith to the gods.
Me: Odysseus...HAVE FAITH...? Nolan...Odysseus was arguably one of the most religious heroes of all what are you-... Dialogs at least...following the book somehow?
Nolan: Modern dialogs what are you talking about? Totally showing the true length of their characters!
Me: Oh my...like what...!?
Nolan: Odysseus for example; He says that not even gods can stop him in my film! Very IC indeed...
Me: ... Please at least tell me you follow the plot SOMEHOW...come on my man!
Nolan: Sure I mean we start at Ithaca like the Odyssey
Me: Okay...that goes good that's fine..
Nolan: But obviously Penelope will have to be speaking about taking the throne or how unfair life is because we have to be more woman-centric given that Homer clearly didn't care enough to let us know how she feels...
Me: ...
Nolan: I mean we have Mentor and all but do not get too attached... And yeah we do have Ismarus things because of course we need to be realistic and show the evil world of ancient times is but...no Lotus Eaters
Me: Why...?
Nolan: We don't need them! Odysseus will be drugging himself with them at the isle of Calypso...
Me: You know in the Odyssey, Odysseus is not the one using drugs, Nolan...
Nolan: Ah you mean that evil violent husband Menelaus? Well we do want to be more realistic so Menelaus just wants to take his wife back so he scars her...
Me: Menelaus?!...H-Helen...? What on earth...?!
Nolan: Well or make fun of her disfigurment anyways
Me: What the actual fuck...?!
Nolan: Anyway as I was saying...We have the cyclops obviously. You can't have the Odyssey without him...
Me: True...and that ingenious plan of the "Nobody" introduction...
Nolan: Hahaha no we are not doing that!
Me: ...
Me: Excuse me...what?!
Nolan: But of course! It doesn't fit as a pun for English speakers! See how much respect I show to the Greeks?
Me: But...how can you have an Odyssey without...like what's next?! That we will have Odysseus actually spare some of the suitors, Circe not being a seductress and like...what? No bed recognition scene!? Hahahahaha
Nolan: I mean...exactly.
Me: Wait...WHAT?!
Nolan: And maybe I am going to kill off one or two people during the Siren passage...
Me: ...
Nolan: Now that I think about it maybe just maybe the Greek language will be used as a "foreign language" you know...because no one understands it and all
Me: The original language...of the poem...? The one the heroes are supposed to speak too...will be symbolizing a....
Nolan: And Odysseus and Penelope will sail together for symbolism in the end maybe! I told you it is a realistic adaptation! The most faithful Odyssey so far!
Me: okay no offense, Chris...but...have you...in fact read any of the book with your own two eyes?
Nolan: But of course! I even have a favorite translator...
Me: Well I'll be damned...
Nolan: I told you! The most FAITHFUL adaptation. Hardly any difference from the book! Picturing the culture it represents perfectly!
Me: Right....
Nolan: And of course you know cinematography and music are gonna be simply...epic.
Me: Well at least we have SOMETHING to expect...

I want to be the pervert that makes them fuck.

Another day, another doggy you can’t pet. Meet the dhole (Cuon alpinus). Found widely across parts of Asia from India to China to Indonesia, this social canid typically lives in groups of up to 12 individuals. Sometimes it even socializes with other groups of dholes to form “super packs” of more than 30 members! Teamwork enables these hunters to take down prey ten times their size. And unlike many other species of canid, dholes allow their pups to feed first on kills. Their diet includes pigs, deer, and buffalo.

yknow its interesting how something can impact one demographic in a completely different way than everyone else. in the exorcist when the demon starts speaking in greek, to most people its creepy. but if youre greek and you suddenly start hearing the demon speak perfect fucking greek its genuinely the biggest scare of the movie. you just do not expect to ever hear your language in american movies so it catches you so badly off guard, it feels like the movie is talking directly to you
the first time my dad saw it, it was with his american friends. and when she started speaking greek he turned to one of them and was like "re malaka did you hear that in english?"
Nolan was like how can I make Odysseus as atheist as possible and that’s such a weird take imo
I get annoyed when people downplay Helen's beauty, actually. I've seen people saying the double casting for Helen and Clytemnestra in that movie makes it so much more interesting, when it... really doesn't feel like it. You cannot strip Helen's divine beauty when it is the sole catalyst for everything that has happened to her. You cannot say "oh Helen wasn't actually beautiful, she was just —" because it simply isn't that. Helen was the most beautiful. Helen suffered for being the most beautiful. Trying to basically erase that is erasing a major part of Helen's character. And no you cannot replace her either, you cannot say "oh x person was actually just as beautiful as her, but she —" because Helen. Was. The. Most. Beautiful. It is integral to her character that she was the most beautiful. However, her being the most beautiful does not mean other women were not beautiful either, which is what some of you cannot seem to understand, and that too is also incredibly odd. Penelope does not need to be as beautiful as Helen to be beautiful. Clytemenstra does not need to be as beautiful as Helen to be beautiful. The way you all seem to subconsciously think other women are immediately unattractive simply because they are not as attractive as an outlier is odd.
