Individual parts: (A heart full of love)(Red and Black)(Eponine’s death)(A heart full of love reprise)
older american fans of the olympics are Big Mad about some of these young/outspoken athletes. chloe kim tweeting inbetween her runs, adam rippon being sassy and himself in interviews, red gerard dropping f bombs because of his excitement for a gold medal. they’re so mad because older, conservative fans of the olympics see athletes as belonging to them, a prop in their extreme nationalism and a way to be better than other countries. but these athletes are here for themselves, for their own dreams, with their own personalities and reactions and none of these conservatives know how to handle it. they hate that chloe kim was proud to ride for both south korea and america, they hate that red gerard overslept, they hate that adam rippon is outspoken about his dislike of pence, that gus kenworthy is as well.
too bad so sad, buddy.
anyway, 2018′s olympians are Special and i would Die For Them thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Exploring Emotionally Abusive Relationships
Characteristics of an emotionally abusive relationship include:
• Using money as a means of control
• Threatening to walk out or abandon you
• Creating fear through looks, words, threats and actions
• Destroying things (and often things you value) – either in a cold and heatless way, or in an angry outburst or fit of rage
• Using blaming, shaming, minimizing and denial to control you
• Verbally attacking and demeaning you (includes name calling, shouting at you, criticising and putting you down – especially in public)
• Attacking and putting you down in private, and acting loving and charming in public
• Minimising the abuse; acting as if you’re over-reacting and it’s “no big deal”
• Deliberately withholding approval, affirmation, affection and as a means of punishment or control The effects of living with emotional abuse include:
• A fear of being natural and spontaneous
• A loss of enthusiasm or their old joie de vive
• Insecurity related to how they coming across to others
• An inner belief that they are deeply flawed
• A loss of self-confidence and self esteem
• Growing self-doubt (so they’re afraid to make even the smallest decision, or to take on even the simplest of tasks)
• Never trusting their own judgments (as they believe that they misunderstand or misread everything)
• Having a constant critic in their head
• Feeling they should be happier and more upbeat than they are (in order to meet the approval of others)
• Feeling they’re too sensitive, and ought to “toughen up”
• Fearing they’re going crazy, or losing their mind
• A tendency to live in the future (“Everything will be OK when/after ….”)
• A desire to break free, escape or run away
• A distrust and fear of entering into any close relationships again.

List of bisexuals whose identities are erased by the media.
P!nk
Anne Frank
Megan Fox
Billie Joe Armstrong
Snooki
Drew Barrymore
Angelina Jolie
Azealia Banks
Kesha
Fergie
Lady Gaga
Madonna
Clive Davis
Anna Paquin
Bai Ling
Carrie Brownstein
Evan Rachel Wood
Amber Heard
Frenchie Davis
Vanessa Carlton
Jillian Michaels
Freddie Mercury (debatable, but considering he had had a long-term relationship with Mary Austin and he tended to keep quiet on matters of his private life, we’ll never know for sure)
All or which have either been given the name “gay” or “straight“ by the media despite coming out. There are more than two sexualities and this is a fact that most people (even on Tumblr nowadays) forget. People tend to assume that since someone is with a person of the same gender, they’re gay. (Or vice versa in Angelina or P!nk’s case) This is incorrect to assume because you’re erasing their identities in the process. The people on this list aren’t gay or straight, they’re bisexual. No matter how much the media tries to erase that.
also….

what
Channing Tatum is openly bisexual but people just….ignore it.
No the fuck i don’t. The fact that i have a chance with Channing Tatum regardless of my gender has gotten me through some bad days. Also David Bowie.
Omg I can’t believe he wasn’t listed I had to double check!
AND DAVID FUCKING BOWIE
reblogging for all my bi kids out there who are trying to find bisexual role models. there are a lot of bi celebrities out there, it’s just that the media doesn’t like to accept that.

my favorite side effect warning is for antidepressants
pros: you won’t want to kill yourself
cons: you might want to kill yourself
Back when I was in a psychiatric hospital, and was offered antidepressants, my mother had declined them due to that apparent side effect. So the staff actually explained about this effect antidepressants have, that give reason to that warning. When first taking antidepressants they raise up your energy first. So that you have the energy to do the tasks you might have avoided doing due to your depression. Because of this those who were already suicidal, now have the energy to go do so. Which is the ones this warning is given for. It’s not that a side effect of antidepressants magically makes you want to kill yourself, it’s the energy it gives those who were already struggling with suicidal issues, to actually attempt the act.
Very informative…
Wow. I’m so glad you explained that. Now I understand
My high school choir/psych teacher actually told is about this. She also said if you have a suicidal friend who starts seeming like they might be getting better because they have more energy, that’s the time to be cautious because that’s when they may still be suicidal but they’ll actually have the energy to go through with it
THIS. a thousand times THIS. I had it explained to me in my AP psychology class in high school. super fucking important.
THIS IS SO IMPORTANT and I wish my doctors had explained it to me this well when I first started taking them.
JUST GONNA REBLOG THIS AGAIN TO ADD that my younger sister in law recently started on anti-depressants among other medications in juncture with therapy to help handle an extreme case of OCD and anxiety, and I was the one who had to explain this to her. Her doctor only explained the risks, and not WHY they would actually be considered risks, which put her off of taking medication for most of her life. I explained it, and she understood, and THAT is why she is now on medication that is significantly improving her life. DOCTORS NEED TO TELL US THIS SHIT.
Best description of why ‘increased risk of suicide’ is included in the warning for anti-depressants I’ve ever read.
Signal boost this to save a life.
the six types of gay songs
the song is explicitly about romantic love between two people of the same gender
the song does not contain explicitly gay lyrics, but is performed by a gay artist
the song is not sung by a gay artist, but the singer is of the same gender as the subject of the song and does not change the pronouns
the song is supposed to be about straight people but if you squint, the narrator is clearly in love with Jolene herself, come on
the song itself is ambiguous but the music video was extremely homoerotic
neither the lyrics nor the singer are gay but like, it’s just really catchy…
7. nothing about the song is gay in any way, but you associate it with your crush for some reason, so it’s basically a LGBTQ anthem
8. It’s 80’s synth pop
9. im gay and i like it
#10. hozier wrote it channelling the irish lesbian ghost who dwells within him
How Long is this Fic Really?: A Guide
Word count in the HP Series:
Sorcerer’s Stones: 76,944 Chamber of Secrets: 85,141 Prisoner of Azkaban: 107,253 Goblet of Fire: 190,637 Order of the Phoenix: 257,045 Half-Blood Prince: 168,923 Deathly Hallows: 198,227
Word count in the LOTR Series:
The Hobbit: 95,022 Fellowship of the Ring: 177,227 Two Towers: 143,436 Return of the King: 134,462
This changed me
I’ve read/ am reading fic that are upwards to 150,000 - 200,000. You’re telling me that authors that write for fun are writing a full-length book for the fun of it? They have earned my respect 10 fold.
A friendly reminder.
Adding on to this by reminding everyone to leave feedback on fics. Seriously, y’all, fic writers put their heart, soul, blood, sweat, tears, and time into their writing. The least that you could do is let them know you enjoyed their works.
I have almost 63,000 words on mine and this honestly threw me for a loop.
Okay, but seriously on the topic of straight people being so overly concerned about their children being exposed to homosexuality…
As some of you know, I am a makeup artist in a holistic beauty boutique in a very wealthy area of eastern New York. The week before Halloween I was offering simple costume makeup designs for both adults and children. So my last client of the evening was a 15 year old girl who came in to get her makeup done for the Halloween dance at her school. I was enjoying a conversation with both the girl and her mother when suddenly the topic of transgender came up. I got a little nervous because I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut when I hear people speaking negatively about these sorts of topics and as I mentioned, my store is in a very upscale, white, conservative area…
Anyway, the girl starts telling us that her friend prefers to be a boy now. She says it very simply and comfortably and it made me happy to see her talk about it as if it was really no big deal.
Her mother says
“How does she even know what transgender is though? She’s a little young to be making a decision like that. I really think the media is taking things too far with all this gay stuff. I’m not against it or anything, but didn’t you just tell me two boys in your class are dating too?”
The girl said that yes, two boys she knew were dating and another boy she knew was gay also. (And she also corrected the pronouns her mother used for her friend)
“I don’t mind that she knows that homosexuality is,” the mother said. “But I don’t think it should be taught at such a young age. Did you know it’s on Disney channel now?”
It took me a moment to respond, I just kept painting the girl’s face until I could figure out what I wanted to say.
“Well,” I said. “We tend to teach heterosexuality literally from the time a child is born. Most children’s books and movies are even centered around a romance of some kind like a Prince and a Princess for example. There’s rarely a children’s movie that comes out where the main male and female character don’t end up marrying each other in the end. If we don’t have a problem flooding our children’s minds with heterosexuality from the time they are able to sit up and watch a movie on their own, what is so wrong with showing them two boys or two girls being in love? We aren’t showing them sex. We aren’t showing them anything inappropriate. Since when is love inappropriate? If we show them love in all it’s forms (be it gay or straight) from an early age, they will see that it’s all perfectly normal and natural and maybe we can finally put homophobic the past…”
The woman considered this for a second and then said “I just feel like they see it and then they start to think that they might be too.”
“And maybe they are. But isn’t it better for them to know that it’s okay? They aren’t hurting anyone.”
Then the girl said. “No ones going around just thinking they are gay because they know what gay is, mom. I know what a chicken is, that doesn’t mean I’m going to wake up tomorrow and start clucking.”
I loved this kid. I hope she does well in all of her endeavors
I’m not going to wake up tomorrow and start clucking
Me, to fuck with my mother:*wakes up* CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK
Why You Shouldn’t Use Adverbs in Your Writing
Hi guys! It’s been a while since I’ve made an original post, but tonight I had some extra time on my hands and this popped into my head. Tonight we’re going to talk about adverbs and why exactly it is they’re frowned upon.
We’ve all heard it at least five hundred times, right? Adverbs are not your friends. It’s one of those writing mantras that just gets drilled into your head time after time until you accept it. After a while, some of us may ask ourselves, Why? Why can’t I fraternize with adverbs?
Because they’re lazy writing. You’ve probably heard that umpteen times, too. But why exactly are they lazy writing? What makes them so unbearable? I’ll tell you.
Another writing mantra that’s often shared is Show, don’t tell. In case some of you haven’t heard it, or have heard it so many times it’s lost its meaning, let me explain: basically, show, don’t tell means that it’s more effective to show reactions rather than flat-out say them. For example, instead of He was angry, you could say His jaw was clenched and his shoulders were bunched up like a prizefighter’s; instead of saying I was brimming with anxiety, you could say I felt almost seasick, my stomach broiling like a pot of noodles, and my palms were slick with sweat. That would be showing instead of telling.
One of the main problems with adverbs is that they limit a writer’s ability to show. For example, take this:
Arthur closed the door furiously and walked across the room with a snarl.
You’ll notice two adverbs: furiously and with a snarl (with a snarl is an adverbial phrase – adverbial phrases serve the same function as single-word adverbs, they just come after a comma and are prepositional phrases (things like with a grimace, after a pause, and from a distance)). Now take this:
Arthur slammed the door shut behind himself and walked across the room. His cheeks flamed, and his hands were fisted so tightly his fingernails cut into his palms.
I got rid of the adverbs, and it sounds much better than the first example: the first paints an image that’s kind of fuzzy, but the second is shown in hi-def (at least in comparison to the first). Your word count will increase a little bit if the first example is your first draft and the second example is your second, but in this case I’d say it’s worth it – the quality of your story always comes first.
Another reason adverbs are poor writing tools is that they can be redundant. Using the examples above, let’s paint a little more of the scene, to give the original lines some context:
“Arthur? Arthur, come back! You owe it to me!”
“I don’t owe you shit!”
Arthur tried to start up the staircase, but Vickie pulled him backwards – yanked him, actually. He stumbled, almost fell backwards onto the concrete, then caught his balance. He stood there, looking at her under the piss-yellow lights. Her grip on his wrist was iron.
“You owe everything to me,” she said through gritted teeth. Arthur tried to turn, but her grip only tightened. “You might have forgotten where you come from, but I haven’t, and I plan to collect on my debt.”
There was a lump in his throat that wanted to form tears, but every time he’d cried in front of her she’d turned it against him, and he wouldn’t take it anymore. “You’re asking too much, Vickie.” His voice broke, and that stung like a whip. He sounded like a kid going through puberty. “I can’t give you everything!”
“Fine.” She let go of his wrist and turned away. “Then I guess I won’t give you anything.”
He stood torn, searching for something to say, but he was pulling a blank, so he spun and ran upstairs to the relative safety of his apartment. God, who did she think she was? He was always running, but this was the last time. He’d make sure of it.
He got to his apartment and fumbled with his keys for a solid minute before he got the right one into the lock. Once he was inside, he closed the door furiously and walked across the room with a snarl.
There’s the context. Compared to all the material prior to it, the bolded sentence – the one from our first example – looks almost garish, right? Too contrived? That’s because it’s overkill. Based on the content of the previous scene, we know he’s angry; things like furiously and with a snarl are too much. They convey only one emotion: rage. From what just happened to Arthur, we know he’s feeling a lot more than pure fury.
Now reread the excerpt, but replace the bolded sentence with this: he slammed the door shut behind himself and walked across the room. His cheeks flamed, and his fists were clenched so tightly that his fingernails cut into his palms. Better, right? Yes, because it’s not redundant. The first sentence didn’t fit because it was too bold: it shoved Arthur’s anger in the audience’s face, even though that’s not the only emotion he’s feeling (or even necessarily the primary one). The second option fit better because, by showing instead of telling, it allowed room for the variety of emotions swimming in Arthur’s head (regret, anxiety, anger at both Vickie and himself, embarrassment, and probably more I’m forgetting), and didn’t keep yelling about something we’d already established.
So, to recap: we don’t use adverbs because
1. They tell instead of showing, and
2. They’re redundant. Those two reasons alone are enough to toss them out the window.
I hope this helps! - @authors-haven
