since you seem pretty keen on headphones and such, do you have any specific songs you recommend to test out headphones with to see if they’re good?

Your favorites are always a good choice since it’ll be testing your music preferences.

BUT, I do have personal picks I put headphones through the ringer (like about 100+ but I’ll pick my top 3)

Crossing Eternities from Punishing: Gray Raven, I pay attention to the ticking clock and high drum hits in the song.

Koishikute (All Time Best Version) by Uverworld, I wanna hear them subtle finger slides across the acoustic guitar and the drum stick hits during the gentler parts.

Rex Incognito from Genshin Impact, say what you will about the game but the music SMASHES for critical listening, especially this,

Between wanting to hear the Erhu perfectly without getting drowned out by the standing drums, the beginning sequence with the drums themselves, and then the final act with the guitar, there is so much to hear out for.

I’m also in the camp of wanting to hear the bass clearly and not just “feel” it. Like I know people who love Bass that punches the sides of their heads, but for me who does music making, hearing the full clarity of the bass instruments is a fun experience, like “oh wow that’s what a full thwump is supposed to sound like”

When you shut off one sense, especially one that can be very distracting to music listening, you will hear parts of songs you may never heard before.
